Regression and Correlation

All the independent variables are predicted to have a positive impact on the dependent variable, i.e. sales. It is a general perception that an increase in the product quality will result in the increase in the sales volume of the company. Similarly, the improvement in customer service will also have a positive impact on the sales volume of the company. Location refers to the number of outlets that the company has in any particular area, thus, if there are more outlets in any particular country, the sales volume of the company will increase. A poor choice of location can result in developing a negative relationship between the sales and location.

When we run the regression between sales and quality variables, the coefficient comes to 100.14 which means that a unit change in the variable named quality will bring 100.14 units change in sales for the company. The value of intercept reveals that if the quality variable is put to zero, the value of sales will be 34.88. This does not seem to be practical as there should be no sale when the quality is zero.

When the simple regression is run with the sale and customer service, the coefficient value comes out to be 23.82 which means that a unit change in the variable service quality will bring a change of 23.82 units in sales. When the variable service quality is put to zero, the value of sales comes to be 94.25. This value seems to be realistic as the company is selling some products and some quantity of products will be sold with poor service quality.

When simple regression is run with the sale and location, the coefficient value comes out to be 44.24 which means that a unit change in the variable location will bring a change of 44.24 units in the sales variable. This confirms the prediction that all the variables will have a positive relationship with sales. The value of sales will be zero when location variable is set to zero. This is shown by the value of intercept. This value seems to be true as a zero in location will mean that there are no stores selling the products.

Yes, the regression fits well with the data, this is shown by the value of r squared in the three analysis which comes out to be 0.96,0.94 and 0.98 respectively. This shows that the change in the sales is described by quality, service and location by 96%,94% and 98% respectively. The remaining differences pertains to the error terms. The r squared shows the percentage of change in the predicted variable described by the predictors CITATION DFG \l 1033 (Groebner, P.W.Shannon, & Fry).

When the multiple regression is run with sales as the dependent variable and quality, service and location as the independent variables, the power of the model improves as shown by the value of R squared which comes out to be 0.99. However, the practical significance of the model will depend on the fact whether the predictors have any relationship between them CITATION Mic \l 1033 (Allen).

With a 95% confidence interval, only the location variable is significant while other two variables have insignificant relationships because their P-values are greater than 0.05CITATION Dou \l 1033 (Altman, Machin, Bryant, & Gardner, 2013).

The correlation matrix shows that there is a strong relationship between the predictor variables. The coefficients of correlation are 0.95.0.96 and 0.97 which shows very strong relationships between the predictor variables. This model can be improved by adding more predictor variables CITATION Jer01 \l 1033 (Miles & Shevlin, 2001).

The correlation coefficient shows whether any variables are related to each other. This does not show the magnitude of change in one variable as a result of change in the other variable.

The critical Path

The critical path is typically the arrangement of actions that regulate the project period. It is the lengthiest path in the project, and even minor variations can affect the project length. Project activity diagram, including front map and arrow figure. The nodes represent activities, arrows indicate logic. The node has no practical meaning, only indicates the start and finish of the action, and the arrow line indicates both the task and the logical relationship. When seeking general critical path method by using six-time scale of FIG preamble, the total difference is equal to 0 or is less than the activity of the composition of the critical path 0.

Once an arrow is drawn from task A to task B, this means that task A must be accomplished earlier task B. There are equivalent tasks situated at the same stage but have diverse task lines. They should not depend on each other e.g. point 1 to task A and B. Arrow Diagramming Method (ADM) is a network circle drawing method that applies arrows to denote activities and nodes to signify events. This method is also called Active on the AITOW (AOA). In the arrow notation, assign a unique code to each event instead of each activity. The start of the activity (the tail) event is called the precede event of the activity, and the end of the activity (arrow) is called the successor event of the activity.

The critical path is created by end-to-end dependences from one task to the other, consequential in a happy-path duration (all went well). So, assuming entirely the tasks in the spreadsheet and their prototypes run from start to finish. When a project is distinct to have a clear start and end, one could add a "virtual" node the project that has an end-to-end reliance on the "last" nodes has the path of the longest duration ( as we has multiple paths with the same total duration) in chart. Thus if one of the tasks on these paths takes longer than expected, the last node becomes critical path (s).

Comparison between AON and AOA

Hillier and Lieberman (2001) believe that traditional project networks are mostly represented by AOA, but The AON network map has the following advantages over the traditional AOA network diagram: 1. The AON network map is easier to construct than the AOA network map. 2. The AON network diagram is graphically represented and intuitive. 3. When the project schedule needs to be adjusted or changed, the AON network map is easier to correct than the AOA network map. 4. AOA mode drawing does not require virtual jobs, and network diagrams are easier to draw. Use AOA in the way of drawing, it is often necessary to use virtual jobs to fully indicate the relationship between the operations; AON mode drawing does not use virtual job.

AON's method of drawing network diagrams and planning and controlling projects is also based on AON. The way to draw a project network diagram does not require a virtual job. Due to the above advantages, the AON project network map is gradually accepted by users, which is now more commonly used to represent Network diagram of project scheduling. However, when drawing a project network map in AOA mode, the required nodes are usually required to be drawn in AON mode. The number of nodes is small, and the AOA drawing method is to express the project network by means of traffic network. Therefore the AOA method facilitates the planning of projects using traffic network analysis methods

What is "slack" and why is it important

Allowable slippage for path; the alteration the extent of path and the distance of critical path (Meredith and Mantel, 2014). “On occasion, the PM may convert an adequate accomplishment date for a project which permits for some slack in the whole network. (Meredith and Mantel, 2014, p. 336).

From the beginning of the project plan to the completion of the entire project, the work will not be limited to a single order, these differences the sequential job is called the path of the network, and the total length of time required for each path is the total of all the operating periods. And, the longest path is called the critical path of the project network map. Time required for each job on the critical path the sum total is the total duration of the entire project. If there are different paths with the same total length of time, then the project There are more than one critical path. The importance of a critical path is any activity on the path, if there is a delay Will affect the progress of the entire project, and the delay in the progress of other non-critical paths will not necessarily affect the progress of the entire project. Conversely, if you want to shorten the total duration of the project, one should try to shorten it on the critical path.

According to the definition of the Project Management Institute (PMBOK) in 2000, the actual value management is an integration model. Domain, time, and resources to measure the effectiveness of the project. It will plan the amount of work to be performed, and it has actually been implemented. A comparison of the workload and the cost already spent to determine whether the cost and time schedule are achieved according to the plan objectives. Real Value-managed projects, from work packages to overall project levels, are common The monitoring system can also integrate various functional management such as project schedule and cost, and it is easy to focus on execution

There are various ways to determine the stability of the company through multiple aspects of the organization and the behaviors that define the working strategy of the company. All across the globe, different other big names determine and monitor the health and the growth of the multiple companies on a regular basis. The primary purpose to cater to all such aspects is the reason that it helps the clients to monitor their brand which they are going to choose for their work is either up to the mark or not.

Not only that prior to the knowledge and statistics of various companies and by monitoring a proper statistical graph of the companies which are the leading one and by looking and giving a thorough review, then it becomes a better option to choose the company wisely so that it may not affect the marketing views, shareholders and the investors of the company and the company may not face any downfall in the index points during the upheaval of the shares in the stock market. These upheavals are usually monitored when the company faces any significant loss or when there are certain rumors that are spreading wide across the globe regarding a company at the end hit the stock exchange, that is the point when all the big names like Dow Jones, Reuters are all in action to monitor keenly and by looking deeply into all the details of the company in the most efficient manner. This proficiency profoundly matters as these two companies are one of the old and the trustworthy companies of their time where their each and every detail regarding the ups and downs of the company matters a lot (Burns, 2016). These companies have established their name in the market uniquely and exuberantly where all the people rely on their information, and they have blind faith on their every report as these stats are generated by the highly proficient team whose dedication can be seen throughout the years.

Reuters

All these innovative ways utilized by this leading company have given a chance to the company to emerge as one of the leading companies all across the world. This company started as a news reporting agency from the central hub of the world that is Europe but later on its headquarter was shifted to Eagan, Minnesota in the United States of America. This was due to the tireless efforts and working of the hardworking employees that they emerged as the leading company.

The working of Thomson Reuters gave them a new concept to work in the field of business (Knoke, 2018). This was started due to their enlarged and authenticated working capacity which has already benefitted the various companies regarding the growth and downfall of the companies, market values and shares, and the recent happenings in stock exchange, this was the turning point in the most prominent company when they decided to monitor the health and wellbeing of the various other companies. Proposed System on RSS

In order to have a direct access to all these links directly on the cellular based phones where all the updates are just a tap away or on the screen of the laptop was one page and all the information is directly available on the single screen monitor, there must be a few things that can be catered to get all the access.

The first and the foremost step is to cater to the issue in the most sensitive ways and to look for the exact information to be simmered down that needs to be displayed on the screen. This can be done effectively when the tabs are available precisely on the point where the tabs and the relevant articles are to be posted so that the user may not feel any ambiguity to reach out towards the direct access (Charter, 2017).

The second and the foremost important step is to have a complete graphical demonstration of the graphs through the proper ups and downs and proper detailing that is required by an investor of the company so that they may know the exact amount needed to be invested and how much can give them a loss. All these aspects can provide a detailed aspect of the business. This can be highly beneficial for the company owners to have a keen look at the index points in the stock exchange and the ups and downs of the sharemarket that can widely affect their performance and the availability of the shares from which the investors can be persuaded to be a part of their company (Huhtala, Pikkarainen & Saraniemi, 2017). This can help them to accomplish their goals in the most appropriate ways as it can be a source of their accomplishment of tasks in the simplest and the most natural ways. This will be the most straightforward way as the old businessmen may not feel any complication during this entire process.

One of the other things that can be mentioned in this single tab monitor screen is the essential headlines scrolling in the form of moving tickers on the top of the monitor screen from where they can read all the latest happenings across the globe (Lutz, Rodgers & Beaver, 2017). The other tab by adding it onto the main page of various issues related articles can give a broader prospect to the people to think about it and cater it quickly and can deal with the situation in the most effective way. This can provide a detailed account of the complicated effects of the business.

Conclusion

This can conclude that the RSS system in the webpage and that can help the businessmen and the ordinary people to go through the issues related business in the simplest and easiest ways. This can help the people to learn the unique ways, and this can help the investors to learn about all the leading aspects in the field of business as by doing this, it can help the people to learn the new concepts and spread it all across the world. By starting this concept all the information will be in access within no time and there will be no need of waiting till a more extended period of time to get the confirmed and the authentic news towards the delicate and sensitive field like business and stock exchange where one mistake can give a significant loss to the country and the businessmen themselves.

Leadership Summary

In my opinion, leadership is an incredibly important subject, one that is full of confusing ideas and wide interpretations. However, the crux of the matter lies the definition given by James Scouller. He stated that leadership exists in almost every walk of life, which also defines the type of leadership that is necessary to provide financial authority to the system makes development a vital part and result of positive outcomes of leadership ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"zCzpueLe","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(Antonakis, 2012)","plainCitation":"(Antonakis, 2012)","noteIndex":0},"citationItems":[{"id":986,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/local/5VyEEXyp/items/57U5RCMW"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/local/5VyEEXyp/items/57U5RCMW"],"itemData":{"id":986,"type":"article-journal","title":"Transformational and charismatic leadership","container-title":"The nature of leadership","page":"256-288","author":[{"family":"Antonakis","given":"John"}],"issued":{"date-parts":[["2012"]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (Antonakis, 2012).

A number of leadership theories often fall under the umbrella if philosophy, as it deals with the knowledge, the beliefs, attitudes, concepts, as well as value regarding the way leaders should treat one another. Additionally, given that a leadership theory or model has a number of scientific facts associated with it, the one thing that remains constant and true is the value given to workers and followers by the leader. A leader is nothing without someone to follow what he is saying and how he is being accepted by the people of the world. For instance, an autocratic leader would force his workers to work and achieve their goals.

A good leader defines his or her boundaries and capabilities with regard to the task at hand. Thus, a good and effective leader, if put in this situation, would have some philosophies in place to ensure that the system can operate smoothly. Among all the types of theories that have been presented here, the one that is mostly seen as the hallmark of every individual that has the chops to take on the role of a transformational leader is someone who is worth being followed. Transformational leadership is one of the most useful theories of leadership. This leader fosters growth and welcomes innovative ideas, which individuals are appreciated for thinking outside the box and be able to bring a positive change ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"2XG3JuAf","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(Western, 2019)","plainCitation":"(Western, 2019)","noteIndex":0},"citationItems":[{"id":1044,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/local/5VyEEXyp/items/ZCXH5BJ5"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/local/5VyEEXyp/items/ZCXH5BJ5"],"itemData":{"id":1044,"type":"book","title":"Leadership: A critical text","publisher":"SAGE Publications Limited","ISBN":"1-5264-7854-4","author":[{"family":"Western","given":"Simon"}],"issued":{"date-parts":[["2019"]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (Western, 2019).

Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos made a name for by prompting the people in the team to do a whole lot better. This leadership style is excellent at producing constructive results, paving the way for a better future for the company they work for as well as themselves. A good leader earns the respect of its people in an effortless manner, motivating them to do good and be part of the good. This makes the leadership philosophy being used as a positive one and changes the system for the better.

Week 5 Assignment 2

In completion of this assignment, two successful candidates of business and management doctoral program were interviewed; interviewee one was interviewed via telephone while interviewee two was interviewed face to face. Around fifteen different questions were asked from each interviewee about their experience and challenges that they had to come across during doctoral program. The interview began with questions about their research topics and why they were of interest to them. Both the interviewees major was in Human resources management. Interviewee one has opted for Human resources management topic related to employee motivation; he had the passion for understanding how people are motivated and how can one assist employees in being more productive and committed to the organization. Interviewee two opted for Human resources management topic related to employability as the candidate wanted to explore how a future workforce can improve their chances of employability in the current scenario. More question were asked pertaining to what sources helped them in being successful, how much time and resources were spent in the process, what sources most assisted you in completion of your program, what challenges did you experience in the process and what would you recommend to overcome these challenges etc. before taking their general recommendations for successfully completing the program.

Overall, both the interviewees revealed somewhat similar experiences while completing their doctoral program successfully. Some of their shared experiences displayed that there are many learning experiences an individual faces while pursuing doctoral research along with many obstacles and challenges. Both the interviewees mentioned that at the beginning of the program they felt like they will face serious performance issues because of the first time of doing extensive research and feeling of anxiety and lack of confidence. In the beginning, they experienced fatigue, disconnection, and cynicism especially interviewed two. Both the interviews revealed that they had to struggle most in the start because they were not able to grasp the flow of the research in the beginning. Candidate one mentioned that his supervisor was quite helpful and offered enough time that aided him a lot, while the second candidate stated that the supervisor did not seem very concerned which increased the anxiety.

Nonetheless, both interviewees were anxious for many reasons, but later, in their opinion, everything fell into place. According to interviewee two, the elementary and general data concerning doctoral program is mostly about struggles related to personal problems, the deficiency of supervisor support and even lack of funds. For instance, interviewee two experienced numerous responsibilities, financial issues, difficulty in connecting with the faculty which resulted in lack of courage.

Interviewee one realized that completing his research took a lot of time and struggled as the research was performed mostly through interviews, and meetings which cost him money, time and a lot of energy. For interviewee one, contacting different lecturers and students concerning research helped the most and interviewee was offered many helpful suggestions. Interviewee two stated that the research work was completed within time as it was treated as a full-time job and also because of the internet research, specifically research article and journals. Internet was the most helpful source according to interviewee two. The role of the committee chair and the committee members were quite helpful when needed, but as mentioned earlier, for both the interviewees it was mostly self-help and supervisor support.

Interviewee one stated that a doctoral program could be termed as a shift period, and thus, it is a significant period for thinking on personal development, change, and constructing one's self-identity. Those who are into these studies need to learn from their past experiences and come in with a developed self, motivated and willing to take on the studies independently and optimistically; optimism and confidence are the keys to success. Doctoral research is autonomous and therefore the individual needs to be willing to work independently and not lose motivation. While pursuing doctoral studies, the students need to be self-dependent and perform a lot of explorative as well as practical work from the start till the finish. It is important to bear loneliness and learn to be independent in research work in contrast to previous education where there was not much independent work. Doctoral programs require initiative and taking charge compared with Master’s and bachelor's study. Lacking time management skills, acting carelessly and depending on the supervisors more often can lead to failure.

Interviewee one assumed that doctoral studies are a full-time job. Also, the relationship with the mentor holds supreme importance. Many issues can arise regarding a mentor such as his or her absence due to several commitments; for this, the student needs to keep in touch and demand time consistently. Moreover, beginning one's thesis can be challenging. It is, therefore, advisable to initiate work on something that you find comfortable and do not let the initial phase of thesis discourage you. Usually, I had to work single-handedly or with less cooperation from the staff and colleagues. This did not de-motivated me nor did I feel isolated; instead it was taken as a challenge and learning experience which made me successful in my opinion. Doctoral students should always accept any provision that is accessible and should try to be in contact with other students, joining appropriate societies and developing one's network.

Recommendations

Interviewee one recommended that students should seek help from other students and colleagues to stay motivated and get suggestions, and this will also allow you to come across people with the same interests as yours. It is essential for the students and researchers to take help from other students, keep in contact with the mentor, change the approach of studies from dependent to independent and take charge of the process. In addition, assisting your mentor in their work will substantially increase your chance to get more support along with improvement in your learning.

Interviewee two recommended that prior study experiences that are unlike doctoral studies may confuse and de-motivate an individual and may result in failure or giving up. It is imperative to take your time and in deciding who your supervisor will be. You should go for the one who is engaged in a study or program that will be near to your interests. It is the responsibility of the student to make the relationship with the supervisor work. Regular schedules and keeping the supervisor up-to-date with your progress is also the responsibility of the student as most of the supervisors are busy with many other students at the same time.

Reflection/Analysis

Based on the information from the two interviews it is clear that doctoral research or program is something that is going to be different from previous educational experiences. Because of its autonomous, explorative and extensive nature, many students will lack confidence in the beginning and anxiety can take over. Besides, it must be treated as a full-time job. There can be numerous issues one can come across such as unavailability of a supervisor, funds, data, and motivation, etc. All these issues are not for specific students, but these are general challenges that anyone can face. However, all these problems can be wrestled with, and they should not be taken seriously but smartly. Doctoral research should be taken as an independent studies, and every student should be confident enough in his or her abilities to perform well and must not give up. Based on the information above, supervisor selection is crucial for smooth completion of research and therefore students must carefully examine their research topics and supervisors interest and select the one whose research or field matches with student’s topic. Assisting one's supervisor can help immensely as the student will have more time to interact with supervisor, and he or she will be given more support because of that. In addition, students should not just look for support from their supervisors but instead seek help through other means as well such as discussions with other doctoral students, lecturers and in online groups. Lastly, every student must understand the nature of the program and take his or her time in the beginning, not get demotivated and bear the dependency of research work.

Week 5 Case Analysis

Title page

Case analysis

Introduction

The current case depicts that John was working for Acme as a senior analyst when he suffered from a heart attack. The supervisor confronted John after finding drugs from the drawer before he experienced a heart attack. When he returned to Acme after recovery he was employed as a part-time worker. Acme felt the need of cutting its workforce that resulted in the termination of John on the basis of his low performance and part-time status. John sued the company claiming that Acme has conducted a violation of American Disability Act (ADA).

American Disability Act

The ADA Act (1990) works for assuring provision of civil rights that restrict companies from discriminating employees on the basis of their disability. The act ensures that disabled people get the same opportunities as acquired by other people. It also states that employers are responsible for the provision of reasonable accommodations to such employees. This means employees are provided support for working without causing undue hardships to the employer CITATION Sar14 \l 1033 (Harris, Gould, Fujiura, & Jones, 2014). The ADA act also suggests that the employee must be able to fulfil his professional responsibilities and satisfy job requirements.

The current scenario reveals that the employer of Acme has managed to fulfil his obligations by providing reasonable accommodations. The schedules are modified for John because he was offered part-time work. After his recovery from a heart attack,, the supervisor realized that he was unable to work full time. this reflects that the employer fulfilled his obligation by considering accommodations. The purpose was to reduce work burden for John but he was not given any privilege. While the ADA Act states that the company must provide employment benefits or privileges to such employees.

However, the company did not look at the performance pro-data based on hours. They compared the work performance of John with the rest of the employees neglecting the fact that he was giving fewer hours of work. Reduced hours means low performance compared to full-time employees. The ADA act states that the company can terminate unqualified employees. Even with a disability the worker must be able to perform job duties and fulfil responsibilities appropriately CITATION Sar14 \l 1033 (Harris, Gould, Fujiura, & Jones, 2014). The employer can terminate the employee on the conditions; when termination is not linked to disability, the employee does not meet production standards or the worker poses direct threats to the company.

In the present scenario, no condition was the reason behind the termination of John. His performance didn't pose any direct threats to Acme. Also, his performance was the result of fewer work hours that confirms his qualification for the part-time position. These three conditions considered as necessary criteria of termination are not applicable. This reflects that the decision of the employer to terminate John is linked to his disability. his efficiency is affected by his heart surgery but he is still capable of working as a part-time employee. These conditions indicate that the employer and the company have violated the principles of the ADA Act.

The facts indicate that Acme failed to identify reasonable accommodations for John depending on his medical condition and work experience. The provision of accommodation does not cause undue hardship for the employer because John was paid on the basis of his work hours CITATION Amy19 \l 1033 (Thompson, 2019). The company was not paying any privileges or additional benefits to him depicting that there was no hardship caused by John. He was also performing the required functions of his job. The company did not provide any special treatment to John that reflects that he didn't cause any unnecessary hardships to the company.

ADA's adverse employment actions are applicable in this case. This involves poor performance review, employee termination or demotion from the employer. It states that "changes in the employee's position must cause a materially significant disadvantage to the employee, such as a change in title, salary or benefits” CITATION Ula16 \l 1033 (Ulaw, 2016). The condition of John reveals that he experienced similar issues. Changes in the nature of employment form full-time to part-time and reduction of salary caused adverse impacts on him. The company failed to provide any privileges or special benefits that reflects a violation of the ADA Act.

ADA's principle of light-duty proposition states that the employee who has undergone chronic health issues must be assigned light duties. This means giving them similar positions compared to previous work. It further suggests that the employee can return to the old position when restrictions are removed. The act also claims that "the legislature amended the workers' compensation laws to allow for a penalty for employers who do not offer employees the right to return to work" CITATION Ula16 \l 1033 (Ulaw, 2016). This specific feature of ADA confirms that the employer has violated the act by denying John to work on light duty. this was also part of reasonable accommodation.

Conclusion

Because John was only paid for his work hours, Acme didn't face any extra costs. In such a situation, termination is not justified because the employer fails to provide an appropriate reason that fulfils the criteria of ADA. The analysis of the overall case depicts that the claims made by John are valid. Failure of Acme to offer reasonable accommodations in the form of light-duty depicts a violation of the ADA Act. The appointment of John didn't cause any significant harm to the company that reflects the decision was flawed.

WEEK 5 Discussion

Initial post week 5

The Earned Value Management (EVM) is a controlling method in which key figures are calculated with the help of planned and actual data, which evaluate the project progress in terms of costs, time and scope of services. In addition, the EVM provides forecasts for the projected project end and projected project costs. The most important basis of calculation of the key figures is the so-called earned value, which is determined from the sum of the planned expenses for the scope of services provided on a particular key date. The three different earned value definitions defined in the EIA standard all have their own meaning, which the PMBOK has also adopted.

“The earned value of work achieved (value completed) for those tasks in growth is found by growing the projected percent physical accomplishment of work for each task by the strategic cost for those tasks”( Meredith and Mantel, 2014, P. 439).

The core of EVM is the earned value itself. Without determining the earned value, you cannot use EVM with all its metrics. The key figures that subsequently calculate from the EV, AC and PV are then important to determine the state of the project / subproject or work packages.

One could consider many more interesting points of contact between risk management and project cost management. In particular, the project justification methods are based on the so-called cost-benefits analysis and come down to an analysis of the company's risk tolerance in financial terms for a project with different levels of profits and other benefits. At this point, however, we would like to interrupt the discussion about the cost characteristics of the project and move on to consider a somewhat non-traditional aspect of risk management - namely, the risks of the project schedule.

The acceptance for EVM is high in the Anglo-Saxon countries. However, it is also increasing in the European countries, among others, due to a higher acceptance of the PMBOK ® PMI and the sharp increase in certifications for PMP, but also because orders of the American Government to the European defense industry. With these, EVM is obligatory above a certain order size.

The Earned Value Methodology requires a clear definition of the work, deadlines, and effort required to provide an objective and realistic measure of the work done, and represents a true cost situation. Further, this method provides a basis for basic (management) Decisions and represents an approach for a company-wide uniform performance measurement for projects. Within the multi-project controlling comparisons between several projects are possible. While the earned value method does not allow monitoring and forecasting of quality and performance, it does provide information on project duration and costs through an integrated analysis of elapsed time and costs.

The method is part of the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK), the American standard for project management, and is today the minimum standard for public projects in the United States. Basically, Earned Value Management represents a key figure-oriented approach to make the progress of a project measurable and monitorable at all times.

Reply to Brandon

Thankyou Bandon and your post is interesting and informative as always. The aim of the earned value method is to grant as objective an assessment as possible of the project performance at a certain point in the project process. To achieve this, the EVM provides an integrated analysis of costs incurred, past time and work performed.

Meeting medical challenges with artificial intelligence has never been too easy. Sometimes a machine can not access a patient’s medical condition which a doctor can more promptly or otherwise accurately. However, doctor’s are limited and can not be present everywhere at the same time. The new technological advancements allow doctors to transmit their knowledge into these machines so that these expert systems, neural networks, and genetic algorithms can be performing the same tasks more accurately (Miller, & Brown, 2018). An example of an expert system can be identified as a symbolic lisp machine. Moreover, an example of a neural network can be taken as deep reservoir computing, and lastly, an example for genetic algorithms can be considered as Java. While discussing genetic algorithms, it is essential to have an in-depth analysis of this particular artificial intelligence. It is important to analyze how health practitioners use it to manage clinical functions on a daily basis.

This Java system recognized as one of the genetic algorithms is widely used in many computer systems. It contains binary values from 0 and 1. Each number has a fitness value thus five 1s would make it maximum fitness where one 1s would make it the lowest fitness. When using this particular intelligence method to assess a person’s health, the genetic algorithm tries to maximize the fitness function to provide a number to evaluate the individual (Ghaheri et al. 2015). So if the value is five 1s, that means the patient is fit, but if the amount has one 1s, that means that the patient has the lowest fitness and would require further medical assessment. This method is widely used across hospitals and clinics and helps save time and cost of both the patient and the doctor. Such practices can influence a positive change amongst the medical profession and help with more advancements in the field of artificial medical intelligence.

Introduction

Harley-Davidson is a leading firm in the provision services. Its sales product v 13% and the total revenue and profitability dropped by 30%. The stock of the company also plugged by almost 70%, therefore, Harley-Davidson witnessed the decline in profit, sales and profitability for the first time in history. It is also established that Harley –Davidson is facing a new challenge in the market which was not there twenty years ago. Its brand value has declined due the decrease in market share and profitability of the company. The overall market value of the company decline, the global sales and the revenue of the company also reduced. Harley _Davidson has invested heavy in the motor cycle’s industry and the production of the company has increased compared to other companies. The stakeholders of Harley-Davidson are customers (bikes), employees of the company, board of management partners and employees of the company. As stated by DeBord (2018), Harley-Davidson Revenue and Net Income (1990-2013). –1000 0 1000 2000 3000 4000 5000 6000 7000 1985 1990 1995 2000 2005 2010 2015 USD ($) in Millions Year Revenue Net Income Source. This report therefore, presents the analysis of the performance of Harley –Davidson in the market.

Stakeholders play a key role in efficient management and success of a company. In the case of Harley –Davidson, employees are one of the valuable stakeholders which determine the success of Harley-Davidson. Employees are involved in every steps of a company for efficient service delivery. It is reported that the losses incurred by the Harley –Davidson was due to loss of market share, which triggered the profit loss. Without ensuring that employees are motivated and satisfied, it would be difficult for a company to realize growth. The board and shareholders were concern of how the company intends to increase its market and return to profitability. According to DeBord (2018), employees are involved in research and development to invent new technology which can help the company to changes its demographic. With investment on workers, the company would have focused and committed workers. Harley-Davidson should also focus on customers. It is noted that majority of Harley-Davidson are male and most if its products are rejected by female CITATION Rob19 \l 1033 (Ferris, 2019). It would important for the company to focus on customer diversification to bring women to its bracket of customers. This could be realized through investment on modern and efficient brakes and types of bikes, which can e used efficiently by women. Moreover, employees can impact the business through provision of satisfied services to customers. Employees can involve in research and development to introduce new concept, which can be used to produce motor cycles suitable for women customers. Motivated employees would work together with other members to solve the problems to ensure that service deliveries are improved and this could positively impact the company.

Employees and customers (women) can be motivated to engage with the company. Employees are motivated by salaries, wages and other benefits. If a company has a structured method of promoting, paying salaries and taking the interest of its workforce, the entire workforce would be willing to sacrifice and work to provide products which can help in increasing profitability of the company. Therefore, employees would motivated by giving them higher and good benefits, regular promotion and good employment contract. This would allow employees to be committed to the goals and objectives of the company for long and short term deliverables. However, for the success of the strategic plan, the communication with the stakeholders must be effective. The company should deploy email communication as the best communication strategy. The email should be used to convey top decision made by the company for immediate action. Above, having constant meeting with the staff / employees would also improve the growth of the company.

Introduction

Moving average forecasting models is applied to forecast future values. It is regarded as a technique for predicting or obtaining future values. It mostly used by stock analyst to predict the future prices of stock. Moving average smooth a data and therefore, it makes it easy to spot a trend in a volatile market. Moving average also form a blocks which are used for many other technical overlays and indicators in market. According to Toms (2011), it plays an essential role in stocking exchange and other money markets to determine the trend in the market. It brings competitiveness in the stock market which improves the performance of stock market and the economy. Without moving average, it would be difficult for traders and analysts to understand the trend and predict future prices CITATION And18 \l 1033 (Kolkova, 2018). This could easily make the stock market lose competiveness hence investors. It therefore, plays a critical role in ensuring that the stock market remains active and viable.

However, this study intends to investigate the performance of stock market using moving average forecasting. In order to understand how moving average is applicable, stock market of UTIW, OEX and CIEN would be analyzed using moving average and centered moving average. The comparison will also be done using moving average and centered average to understand the application of the two concepts and their importance in the analysis of the stock market performance. It is also important to point out that the result obtained reflects the performance of the market. As pointed out by Hyndman (2010), it is important to understand how the stock market move and predict the future price based on trend. Through the use of moving average stock trend could be predicted. This study therefore, present techniques applied in moving average to understand the daily stock market performance by compared the performance of three stock market using moving average.

Create trend-moving averages with the following values form: 10, 100, and 200

Moving Average for three different stock markets

Graph 1: moving average for 10 UTIW

Graph 2: Moving average for 10EX

Graph 3: Moving average for 10 CIEN

Graph 6: Moving average for 100 UTIW

Graph 7: Moving average for 200 CIEN

Graph 8: Moving average for 200 OEX

Graph 9: Moving average for 200 UTIW

Create centered-moving averages with the following values form: 10, 100, and 200

Centered Moving Averages for UTIW stock market

The UTIW is one of the known and the biggest stock market. It provides worldwide stock prices and some historical data of several companies. The center moving average after obtained using the value 10 is as indicated in the diagram below. In this, the stock data is used to develop centered moving average of the UTIW stock markets. First, it is essential to understand centered moving average. Centered moving average is used to create a series of average of different subsets which below to the same and full data. The centered moving average means that the data is centered on the mean.

Create centered-moving averages with the value of 10

Diagram 1: Centered moving average with the value of 10

The graph indicates that the centered is longer compared to the UTIW. In this case it could mean that stock prices are highly predicable. The mean is around the center of the information and therefore, it can easily be used to provide prediction.

Centered moving average with value of 100

Graph 2: Center moving average with value of 100

In the graph, it is evidence that centeriod 100 UTIW is shorter compared to UTIW index. It could means that it provides faster update on the change of values compared to 10 values. Though the predictability of the index market is similar, efficiency and competency could be different.

Graph 3: Centered moving average with 100 values

Centered Moving Average for OEX Stock Market

Diagram 4: centered moving average for OEX 10

Diagram 5: centered 100 OEX

Diagram 6: Centered 200 OEX

Diagram 7: Centered 10 CIEN

Diagram 8: Centeriod 100 CIEN

Diagram 9: Centeriod 200 CIEN

The moving averages for the same values of m compare between a trend-moving average and a centered-moving average

Based on the above graphs, it is evident that where the trend moving average is dealing with a situation where the point was not established and therefore, the centered moving average deals with the exact time of time. In this, the moving average is directed towards the right, which can indicate a positive response of the stock market. It can either means that the stock market is experiencing constant increases. This is what is used by analysts to predict the next value of the stock price.

The moving averages can assist a stock analyst in determining the stocks' price direction. Provide a detailed explanation with justifications

Moving average is an essential aspect in stock market. According to OEX, (2019), it is applied by stock brokers and other traders to determine the prices of various stocks in the market. Kolkova (2018) pointed out that it assists stock analysts to determine the stock’s price direction. The main point is how it helps stock analysts to determine stock price direction. Moving average is a technical analysis tool which smooths out price data by providing constant update of the average prices of stock. It provides update on the stock price based on period set by stock analysts. With moving average a stock analysts is able to predict the future prices of shares of a company. The advantage of using moving average is that it is popular can be tailored to meet any time frame. The simplest method to use moving average is to plot a single moving average on chart and then monitor the performance of a stock. As stated by Hyndman (2010), when the price action stays above the moving average line, it means that the price of the stock is in a general trend.

Hourly Wages for Concrete Foundation

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of May 2017, concrete finishers and cement masons received median salaries of $40,650 per year, or wages of $19.54 per hour, nationally. Among these workers, the highest 10 percent made more than $35.05 per hour which totals to $72,910 per year. While the lowest-paid 10 percent earned about $13.25 per hour, which equals to $27,550 per year. Among construction workers, those who work on building exteriors foundations, and structure make up over half of the total laborer jobs. The median earnings of labor in this category of construction are $44,240 per year, which amounts to an hourly rate of $21.27CITATION BLS18 \l 1033 (BLS, 2018). Therefore, the hourly wage of the labor that will work on the building’s foundations is also taken to be $21.27.

Cost of a cubic yard of reinforced concrete

Calculating the cost of concrete involves more than obtaining the price of concrete from a list of suppliers. The project manager has to determine the type of concrete according to the project specifications and provide the location of the construction area to the supplier for them to offer a quote. Furthermore, the building’s foundation requires reinforced concrete in which the reinforcement is usually provided by a steel rebar, fiber, plastic mesh, or wire mesh, depending on the project specifications. The extent of reinforcement and the type of material used is aimed at increasing the crack-resistance and strength of the concrete. A standard reinforcement of concrete adds an estimated 0.18 cents per square feet to the cost of the reinforced concrete. The foundation of the building will require a reinforced concrete slab to enhance the floor area's sturdiness. In structural weight-bearing projects, the standard strength of concrete used in the foundations should be about 4000 psi. For this type of reinforced concrete, the average price is $115 per cubic yards CITATION Mik18 \l 1033 (Day, 2018).

Estimate of Labor Expense of Pouring Foundation

Workers = 8 Number of Days = 5/Week

Shift = 10 hours/Day

Time for Foundation = 3 Weeks

Using average median wage for concrete foundation workers = $21.27/Hour

Total Labor expense = (8*21.27$) * 10hrs * 15 Days = $25524

Cost of Materials for Pouring Foundation

Concrete Quantity for Foundation = 400 cubic yards

Concrete Price = 115$ per Cubic Yard

Total cost of Materials: $46000

Impact of Overhead Charges

To costing process of a project involves calculating the direct costs of machinery, resources, labor, materials, as well as overhead charges. These overhead charges can result in increased and unexpected costs, while also potentially resulting in penalties in case of delays. As opposed to direct costs, overhead charges are not associated with the performance of a specific component of a project but rather linked to the overall running of a project. In many cases, these include the cost of utilities, supervision, insurance, services, safety, and office. Moreover, in the case of labor costs, overhead charges can come in the form of estimated time overruns which add to the base time required to complete a task, resultantly leading to higher overhead charges. These additional costs could also arise as a result of high personal time rates which reduce the total workable time of the labor. Thus, it would take more time for the labor to complete the same task than estimated, thereby increasing the overall costs CITATION Jac14 \l 1033 (Meredith, Samuel J. Mantel, & Shafer, 2014).

In the case of materials, these overhead charges may include labor compensation insurance, or costs of small equipment such as hoists, steam shovels, or related to hiring and maintaining concrete mixers. It can also include installation overhead and freight charges. Other forms of overhead charges can result from the country in which the contractor operates due to varied practices, laws, and customs. Each of these adds to the overall project costs and require project managers to make an estimation of projected overhead costs in the budgeting process.

Impact of Cost of Steel

Although a number of variables are involved in determining the cost per square foot of the building's foundation. The cost of steel provides a considerable increase in the overall budget. Notwithstanding, the different uses of steel in various components of a project, the reinforced concrete, used as the prime material for the construction of the foundation, makes extensive use of steel reinforcing bars. These steel bars are embedded into the concrete before it sets in order to enhance the foundation’s tensile strength, elasticity, and ductility. It increases the concrete’s ability to resist tensile stress in specific regions which would otherwise cause cracking and structural failure CITATION Sam95 \l 1033 (Samman & Erbatur, 1995). The stronger the tensile strength needed, the higher ration of steel is required as reinforcement. Thus, the total cost of the concrete increases in proportion to the ratio of steel, as its price increases.

Impact of Hurricane on Schedule

Hurricanes leave a major impact on the operations of construction sites. In case of an imminent hurricane, most contractors implement a range of precautions as high winds and storm surges can damage and flood the retaining walls and foundations of a building. Furthermore, hurricanes create an interruption in operations and planned schedules that adversely affect a project's efficiency CITATION Gro17 \l 1033 (Grogan, 2017). Construction delays in projects often arise from force majeure events, the extension of contractor schedules, and increased costs of labor. These also create a significant potential for dispute as the contractor and owner’s views can often differ regarding schedule extension. Storm-related factors can also lead to reduced labor productivity because of a lack of equipment and material, disrupted supply chain and work processes CITATION Eda17 \l 1033 (Galeno, 2017). Labor productivity can also be affected by demoralization caused by the loss of vehicles, property, and uncertainty about the future. Additionally, quality control processes and supervision may be absent from the site which can cause further disruptions in the project schedule.

Response to Question 1

I have always been good at Information Technology and especially about the ways information technology can help business organizations. My first job was in a very small firm, where one day I asked one of my co-workers about the data backup system in the firm. That day, what came to my knowledge was that there is no data backup system in my company. I went to my manager as soon as my work shift ended to inform him about the need and significance of data-backup in the corporate world. I initiated by telling my interest and knowledge in the IT and later shared that the only way to protect the firm from valuable data loss is to create a data backup, either manually or automatically. In addition, I further informed about the worst impacts data loss can have on business operations. I also made different offers on how I can help in developing the backup of data with little cost. However, it was a newly started firm and the manager was not willing to bear any cost. He further told me that it is not the right time for the company to increase its operations as the workload was already high.

This was really disappointing for me as I was ready to utilize my skills, expertise, and knowledge for the firm and I was going the extra mile for my company, which was not regarded. I also felt demotivated but this gave me a life lesson on leadership that I will never do such thing that will demotivate my people. I believe in order to motivate other people to perform better, it is pivotal to appreciate them for their concerns for the organization (Burton, 2012). Every single effort made by them must be recognized to encourage them towards better performance. This was the most effective managerial lesson I learned from this experience.

Response to Question 2

Conflicts can be poisonous and they cause server damage to productivity, creativity and employee self-esteem. In the virtual environment, these conflicts are more dangerous since people behave with far less restraint (Ferrazzi, 2012). One example of a virtual conflict I witnessed involved my friend who was a sales coordinator for a large telecommunications company. One of the Account Managers took over a portfolio with an international Japanese automobile company as one of their major clients and it was an account in conflict. Their previous Account Manager had neglected them and left many service issues outstanding and they were on the verge of canceling their million-dollar contract. My friend was assigned with the responsibility of their account as their liaising sales support. She had to arrange a meeting with the client online, and she was made to talk to the CEO, a formidable and influential woman. The CEO spoke to her in a hostile tone and made threatening noises of terminating their contract.

When CEO finished, my friend acknowledged her complaints and asked her to give the opportunity to look into them. She took down the details of the issues and service problems, every service line number that had to be fixed, their invoicing errors, how they wanted their VPN to be set up and the ongoing faults in their network. She further asked questions for more information whenever she needed clarification.

Eventually, when the majority of issues were settled to the client’s satisfaction, her company was rewarded when they renewed their contract. She also received a Service Excellence award and a performance bonus. I was the witness of this entire experience and the way she managed conflict with the client through the online platforms. Conflict is not necessarily the end of the road. From experience, it is an opportunity to listen, understand and improve matters. To create solutions that will ultimately enrich and be of benefit to all parties concerned.

Question 1: Share with the class some of your experiences—both positive and negative—with electronic media.

Answer: Electronic media is the best thing that has helped businesses in their marketing strategies. Electronic media can help in developing small businesses by allowing it to market its product without the need for any additional employees.

Being a football enthusiast, the electronic marketing strategies used by New England Patriots are amazing; they have used electronic media to revolutionize their brand completely. Their logo is now one of the most recognizable logos in the sports world. They have made their distance from major cities as their strengths through their effective marketing.

One thing that I have noticed is that Bad stories are releasing now and then that can affect businesses drastically, while previously businesses were not growing as much as they are growing now but one bad story whether it is true or fabricated can destroy a business. Management accounting and control systems are great tools for promoting efficiency in an organization. Implementing such management accounting methods will increase productivity in the company by focusing on managerial activity and how it can be improved. But the fact is that total reliance on just management accounting methods to bring about innovation would only lead to a loss in the quality of the workforce already available to the company. Over-reliance on numbers leaves a company to open to negligence towards retaining qualified employees that could have done better if their skills were properly used in the first place.

Accounting-based valuation of innovation: challenges and perspectives

Overview

This article is a research on the literature behind the valuation of innovation regarding areas involving modern as well as traditional accounting. Innovation is characterized as intangible assets which are value-creating entities rather than having any monetary value. This makes them liable to not be recognized properly as intangible assets. Because they do not live up to the strict standards set by traditional accounting, innovations are not recognized as intangible assets but expenses. According to the research done in this paper the only way that can be used to account for the value creation by innovation is through innovative accounting such as integrated reporting (Dainiene & Dagiliene, 2014).

Critique

Valuation of innovation is very important for the survival of the company in the long term. Innovation is considered as an intangible asset because it is a method for value creation for a company. This also generates a form of stable economic growth for the company. Now the traditional accounting system cannot account for the importance of value creation so it records innovation as an expense rather than an intangible asset. This makes it less important for companies that are currently operating in this financially unstable and competitive business environment.

The part of positive change arrangement inside an association produces productivity which is the primary point of associations.

The part of incorporating positive social change with the business procedure creates a decrease of social clashes inside an association an angle basic for the congruity of hierarchical objectives.

In the feeling of incorporating positive social changes inside the business system, an association can create consistency which is basic for feasible authoritative needs and tasks.

Answer # 2:

There is significant expense of operations that will be carried out in the organization. This depends on the way that various partners will be required in guaranteeing that business embraces best approaches hence including operational expenses. The part of diminished operational gainfulness to certain degrees in that the vast majority of the objectives will be directed towards undertaking society related anticipated which are expensive and requires significant level of responsibilities. The danger of losing a portion of the center abilities as most supervisors adores working for authoritative gainfulness rather than the cultural related anticipated which are not salary producing. CITATION Ute16 \l 1033 (Ute Stephan, 2016)

Answer # 3:

Real life Example:

Biotex was an organization that neglected to consolidate genuine positive change activity. Biotex is a nylon sack assembling organization in Africa which concentrated on diminishing the measure of level of contamination on the earth however the administration that drove the organization were politically centered and based around the high measure of productivity that was acknowledged by the company, the directors prepared laborers prompting mechanical strike and discoloring the name of the organization in contention that it needed to decrease the representatives pay in spite of them working in a concoction based condition and deadened the activity which prompted disappointment of its execution. CITATION Bru17 \l 1033 (Booth, 2017)

What the Biotex should have done was that through the discussions with the consultants and employee managers so that no miscommunication is present, they can bring a change they wanted to undertake in the environment and make it beneficial to the employee. Secondly, what they can do was to refer to a fruitful situation where an association have acted capably in its tasks and how it has increased pivotal gains in the general public. The part of the official coordination is indispensable, which is upgraded through powerful communication. This guarantees that there is decrease on the operational expenses of an association where a similar data ought to be moved in an increasingly mindful way to the representatives and other authoritative partners who structure "life" of the association.

Business and management

Using Suncoast dataset, effectiveness of training program, effects of lead exposure and difference in return of investment has been evaluated using statistical data analysis techniques in Excel data analysis Toolpak. The document includes the hypothesis, Excel outputs and interpretation of results for independent sample t-test, paired sample t-test and one-way ANOVA.

Independent Samples t-test

Hypothesis

The null and experimental hypotheses of the research measuring the effectiveness of training program are stated below.

Null hypothesis H0: The mean difference between two groups in the effectiveness of training program is equal to zero.

Experimental hypothesis H1: The mean difference between two groups in the effectiveness of training program is greater than zero.

Excel output and interpretation

Independent T-test has been chosen to check the difference as it the most suitable test to know the mean difference among two groups from different populations (Field, 2009). Figure 1 shows the Excel output of independent sample t-test. The sample comes from the different populations, group A, who received prior training and the other group B, who received the revised training.

Fig. 1. Excel output for independent sample T test

It can be observed from the figure 1 that means for two groups are not equal. Mean difference observed is equal to 14.98. The value for the test 1.93983E-15 is significantly less than 0.05. Hence, we reject the null hypothesis that the mean difference between groups is equal to zero and accept the experimental hypothesis. It can be noted that the average is greater in group B which suggests that the revised training program is better than the previous one.

Dependent Samples (Paired Samples) t Test

Paired sample t-test will be used to know the amount of lead before and after exposure as the sample meets the assumptions of paired sample t-test. The test variable has been recorded twice in the same group or same population before and after exposure (Field, 2009; Creswell & Creswell, 2017).

Hypothesis

Null hypothesis H0: The mean difference in the blood lead amounts is zero before and after the project.

Experimental hypothesis H1: The mean difference in the blood lead amounts is higher than zero before and after the project.

Excel output and interpretation

Fig. 2. Excel output for paired sample T test

It can be seen from the results that the mean difference, 0.428 microgram is closer to zero. The p value p = 0.056 suggests a slight increase after the exposure but the value rounded to two decimals, 0.06>0.05. We accept the null hypothesis that the mean difference before and after the exposure is zero. This suggests that the project does not contribute to higher level of lead in the blood of workers.

One-way ANOVA

One-way ANOVA test is used to know the differences in two or more groups for one variable Creswell & Creswell, 2017). The one-way ANOVA tells the difference in one variable measured in different groups from different samples. The variable in this study is return of investment measured for four different projects air, water, soil and training.

Hypothesis

Null hypothesis H0: No difference exists in the return of investment by the four projects.

Experimental hypothesis H1: A difference exists in the return of investment by the four projects.

Excel output and interpretation

Fig. 3. Excel output for one-way ANOVA

The excel output provided above show p value, 1.76E-06 is significantly higher than 0.05, so we reject the null hypothesis. The greatest amount of return in investment has been received from soil project with average 9.1 and second highest was air project, average 8.9. water project generated an average 7 and the least amount of return from the investment was given by training project. Therefore, the Suncoast can keep investing in air and soil projects for higher revenues.
