Stress and Coping

Stress areas in my life are time management and sleeping. I am not able to manage time and missed my deadlines. My sleeping hours has reduced from 12 hours to 4 to 5 hours which are stressful for me. Many of times, I missed my college deadlines because I couldn’t able to manage the time. The life of modern man is full of stress. Difficulties at work, lack of money, family troubles, problems with children, health problems - all sorts of problems literally surround us at every turn. Few succeed in breaking the “vicious circle” and protecting themselves from the experience. The rest continue to regularly nervous, anxious and suffer from insomnia. I am also suffering from all the issues. There are two strategies I used to do to cope with stress such as breathing and mediation.

Breathing is such a mechanical act that we pay no attention to it. However, becoming aware of our breathing helps us to relax. In addition, to combat stress you can practice deep breathing exercises, since they will help you calm down in a practically instantaneous way. Meditation is a great way to manage stress and calm the mind. Meditation helps us eliminate negative emotions and stress caused by automatic thoughts. Through meditation you can learn to focus your attention on one thing in a specific time interval. It is a self-discipline that increases the effectiveness to fix the mind on a single thing, which increases our capacity for attention and perception (Scheier, et.al. 1986). Through meditation we learn to free ourselves from all these thoughts and rediscover inner peace and emotional harmony. Meditation improves our quality of life, but it is especially indicated for these people who suffer from anxiety, stress or chronic pain, it can also help us to improve self-esteem and create a state of complete relaxation.

The breathing exercises are a very useful tool: for both stress reduction, anxiety control , let anger and clarify ideas , fall sleep , improve concentration .. etc. Regular practice is extremely beneficial. In fact they are not only useful when we are already at a high level of stress, saturation or nervousness; the regular practice of small moments of "parenthesis" during the day in which stopping and breathing is very helpful. Time management and stress management are intimately linked: lack of time stresses you and your stress makes you waste time. This relationship can be stressful and negatively affect your professional and personal life (Jackson, et.al. 2018).

With regular practice, progressive muscle relaxation offers an intimate familiarity with the tension and relaxation that allows you to feel, independently, the different parts of the body. This knowledge helps detect and combat the first symptoms of muscle tension that accompanies stress and, as the body relaxes, the mind also does so. It can be combined with deep breathing thus reaching an additional level of tension relief. Good breathing allows us to get rid of all of our toxins and the carbon dioxide that pollute our body. But it is also the key to our well-being. If we breathe badly, our brain for example, suffers the consequences because it is poorly irrigated. But if we give him all the oxygen he needs, we improve our intellectual abilities and our attention, but we also act on our thoughts and emotions(Carver, et.al. 1989).

To conclude, stress is never a good ally. It affects our physical and mental health and it is necessary that you put everything on your part to prevent it from appearing. Or for, if it inevitably arrives, to combat those negative effects it causes in us.

Problems in application of accounting principles

This report will identify a problem in accounting field and then show with the help of data, how to solve it. More specifically, we will take some of the basic concepts of accounting, define them, analyze the consequences of ignoring the concepts and then show with the help of data how these concepts will help the business. Although these principles form the basis of accounting but sometimes, businesses ignore their importance knowingly or unknowingly. In the following lines, we will take a look on the accounting principles and concepts, the problems created if they are ignored and how to solve these relevant problems.

An accrual is a journal entry which is made for a revenue or expense for a transaction for which cash amount has not been received or paid. Using accrual system is the only option for some businesses which are involved in selling and purchasing of merchandise. The major requirement for an accounting entity is that it should recognize revenues and expenses in the correct accounting period. A business can over state or understate a business profit or loss if it does not adhere to this concept properly. People who prepare financial statements for government organizations will face problems like inertia and sectorial egos while making their financial statements CITATION Hen18 \l 1033 (Hendrawan Santosa Putra, 2018). The failure to apply the accruals concept will affect all the financial statements of an enterprise because this concept is related to the ongoing operations of a business. A credit sale has been made on 15th December of a year amounting to $ 2000 and it closes its accounts on 31st December each year. The accounting people erroneously omit to record the sale in the same year in which it took place. This action reduces the revenues of the firm by the same amount which affects the net profit of the business. This net profit will be ultimately added to owner’s equity so it will reduce the net worth of the company. The solution to this problem is that the accounting people must be trained to apply the correct concept so that there is no discrepancy in the accounting records. Overstating the profits and overall value of business will present a wrong picture of business operations to all external parties. There can be severe consequences for the business if some stakeholder sues it for misrepresenting its picture.

The second principle of accounting is conservatism which states that revenues and assets should be recorded when business is assured about them to receive. On the other hand, expenses and liabilities should be recorded as quickly as possible. Conservatism is used to present a realistic picture of the business to all stakeholders. Although this picture is not very bright, it shows a true and fair view of the business which is a basic requirement of accounting. Similarly, the lower cost or market value principle will be applied by the business when an asset is to be valued. If there is uncertainty regarding a loss, the business should go towards recording a loss whereas if the same scenario occurs with profit, it should not be recorded in books of accounts. A problem will arise if any business does not adhere to the conservatism principle, it will present an untrue picture of the business to various stakeholders. As an example, we can assume that a business has recorded a revenue of $ 10000 that is not assured or that is doubtful to be received. Now the revenues of business will increase as well as profits for the time being but what will happen if these revenues are not actually received by the business? The stakeholders will be badly affected because revenues and profits will be lowered. Some researchers argue that conservatism may not be considered a desirable quality of financial reporting information CITATION Hel08 \l 1033 (Hellman, 2008). These researchers state that conservatism is not an appropriate way to deal with uncertainty. The changes in business conditions should be shown by changes in future estimates and probabilities assigned to the events. Whatever is the case, a business will present its true and fair picture only if it follows conservatism principle. The external stakeholders will be most affected because they will take certain decisions on the basis of faulty or overestimated financial statements. A business may also have to face lawsuits if it shows a rosy picture of its operations to stakeholders and it does not turn out the same way in real CITATION Har86 \l 1033 (Postner, 1986).

Consistency is referred to the usage of same accounting principles from one accounting period to another. In terms of figures, we can suppose that a business calculates depreciation on assets using straight line method in one accounting year but changes to the written down value method in the very next year. This practice will not allow the stakeholders to compare one set of financial statements with those prepared in the other time period. Another important change may be related to calculation of bad debts. We suppose that the company had equal value of receivables in both years. The change was made in provisions for doubtful debts from 5% to 7.5%. This will reduce the amounts of receivables to be shown in balance sheet depicting that the business has not been able to receive from defaulters properly in the last year. Some researchers argue that it is more important for firms to adhere to accounting principles than the accounting standards because accounting standards need clarifications and in some cases, judgment to be correctly understood CITATION Wus10 \l 1033 (Wustemann & Wustemann, 2010). Businesses are answerable to a variety of stakeholders in the modern world including shareholders of the company. If businesses are not consistently following accounting practices, they will not be able to present comparable information to them over a period of time. This will mean that it will not get any investment either by shareholders or in the name of loans from creditors. All these things require that consistent accounting policies must be followed by businesses. A very common example is the change in depreciation methods followed by businesses, which means that a straight line method is changed to a diminishing balance method. This will result in faster depreciation of assets and relatively lower net worth of business as well as lower profits. Sometimes, these changes are also made to save on taxes. If there is any change made to accounting procedures, the same should be shown in the notes to financial statements which form an important part of these statements.

Economic entity concept shows that there is a difference between transactions completed by the business and transactions completed by the owners in their personal capacity. In other words, owners have limited liability with respect to the losses incurred by business. These owners will be liable to pay the loss to the extent that they had invested in the business. If the business mixes its transactions with those undertaken by the owner, it will not be able to present the true and fair view of their business to the stakeholders. This is especially true for the sole proprietors who have unlimited liability that means the losses will be recovered by selling the private property of owners. In case of a company, the owners and business are separate entities and business is treated as an artificial person. If a car bought by an owner is considered a business expense and included in the financial statement of business, it will affect all the financial statements of business. The depreciation charged by business in income statement will decrease the profit and car shown as a part of business assets will overstate the total value of assets owned by business. This aspect will be highlighted by an independent auditor who will separate the expenses which are legally allowed to be included in financial statements. The solution of this problem will be that the personnel who prepares financial statements should be properly trained so that there is a clear separation of business accounts and private accounts. The businesses can also hire more people who can help in verifying the authenticity of books of accounts. For the sole proprietors, they can keep a separate account for business transactions CITATION Geo54 \l 1033 (Husband, 1954).

The matching principle requires that revenues and related expenses must be recognized within the same accounting period or in other words, an income statement must contain revenues which are matched by corresponding expenses on the other side. The Matching principle states that the revenues generated in any given period of time should be matched against the expenditures made to generate those revenues. This is an important aspect of accounting because this lets the stakeholders know the actual profits made in any given transaction. The failure to apply matching principle will result in over or underestimation of profits and worth of the business. An example can be given where a business has made a payment of $ 1000 in terms of insurance premium but this amount of money pertains to four months and the business prepares the financial statements at the end of every month. If the business applies the matching principle, it will apportion the amount among 4 months and record $ 250 for each month. Failure to apply this principle will affect almost all the stakeholders. If profits are understated, it will affect the owners because they will not get proper return on their investments. Overstating the profits will mean that the business picture will be shown better than what it is and creditors will think that it is worth forwarding loan to this business. Failing to implement this concept will affect the income statement as well as balance sheet of a business. Balance sheet will show the net worth of a business and if its figures are not presented in a proper manner, prospective buyers may be fooled. In order to make sure that matching principle has been properly applied by the business, adjusting entries have to be used at the ending date of financial period. These entries apportion revenues and expenses according to the time frame within which they have been incurred. Some expenses have been paid in advance and are called prepaid expenses, these should be deducted from the respective expense account in income statements and shown as an asset in the balance sheet. There are some expenses which are yet to be paid which may also include income taxes, these are added to the respective heads of expenses and are shown as a liability in the balance sheet CITATION Dav65 \l 1033 (Drinkwater & Edwards, 1965). The revenues received in advance are called unearned revenues and are deducted from the respective amounts in income statement. These are shown as a liability in the balance sheet. Accrued revenues are the ones which are not yet received. Adhering to all types of expenses and revenues in a correct manner will make sure that there is no serious issues in the financial statements. A practical example of matching principle is a scenario including commission on sales that is paid in the following month. A business paying commission will record it in the month of sale although it will be actually paid in the next month CITATION Lee19 \l 1033 (Lee & Kyu-jin, 2019).

The materiality principle shows that an accounting standard can be ignored if doing this does not have significant impact on the financial statements. In other words, the financial statements will contain only those items which have a significant impact on the financial performance of the company. There must be care exercised in omitting certain information from the financial statements because omitting a certain piece of information may mean that a stakeholder will not be able to assess the financial performance of the company. Shareholders may not be able to assess their true value if some aspect is omitted from the statement of owner’s equity. This also pertains to skipping any accounting principle on the basis that it will have minimal effect on the usability of these statements. An example can be given for matching concept which will definitely affect the usability of financial statements if it is ignored. It is important that the personnel preparing the financial statements are adequately trained to know what aspects can be skipped from entering in the financial statements.

All the above principles are equally important and not adhering to them will create severe problems but in my opinion, businesses should pay special attention to matching principles and accruals basis of accounting.

Theories Used

The use of sensory marketing strategies has significantly influenced various senses of individuals in a way that engages various senses of individuals in a moment. A theory of mirror neurons was used in this article that states the person when engaged himself in accomplishing something, the other person observing will have the same feelings or his brain will stimulate the same responses. The article has also revealed that various senses have diverse meanings and stimulate a diverse response in persons such as citrus smell is associated with stimulation of cleanliness whereas the smell of vanilla is linked with the senses of innocence. Companies and shops used different strategies and tactics to attract clients and customers such as a shop of perfumes used to spread various fragrances in his shop to attract clients through the sense of smell. Similarly, shops of foodstuff utilize various tastes and smells of flavored items to attract their customers. It is an easy way to attract customers through different senses that made the client to finally come for the product. Type of Methodology

This study was conducted using the methodology in which persons were interviewed and a questionnaire was developed to get answers to customers. Individual questions were asked by the participants visiting the shops. The shop used for the research has displayed various items that attract their customers through various senses such as, vision, hearing, and smell. In another study, 90% of the participants were unaware of the term sensory marketing. Only 12% of the participants responded that they were aware of the term sensory marketing. Many participants were interested in the music, some were interested in the designing of the shop. However, the study was effectively delivering the message that it is an innovative way to attract customers from multiple backgrounds in recent years.

Samples and Case Study

The article that evaluated the participants and their interest in eco-innovation used the methodology of the written questionnaire to evaluate the interest of the participants. The study participants answered various questions according to their preferences. The study methodology was effective in terms of getting in writing consent that what current population demands from the market. The methodology was applied utilizing the survey question in written form from April to August 2019 for the study that evaluated the environmental issues. The study was performed in Slovak population that is the people living in Slovakia. The study participants were 493 from age 15 years to 65. The random methods were utilized in the study. Both articles were effective in delivering its message to the required participants, study methods were effective in terms of getting information regarding the interests of people and communities. The studies have evaluated successfully that people need to know and progress themselves towards advancements. Articles were significant in terms of using recent information that the majority of the population were unaware such as sensory marketing was a term that they heard for the first time. Both of the studies have used methods and questions that were clear, open and easily answerable for the participants, however, some of the participants were not able to answer few questions because of lack of awareness otherwise questions were effective. This is evident from the questions that a greater level of interest was associated with individuals ranging from age above 55 years. It was also evident from the study that eco-innovations should be strongly implemented in real life to help people remain updated regarding current issues in the environment because of its effectiveness.

Most Effective Article

The research that was conducted on sensory marketing was little distressing and was not able to deliver its message effectively at the start, however, once the information was shared the article become more interesting and innovative in delivering its message. The clarity of the message, research, research questions, and methodology was significantly professional and effective in the article that was conducted to identify the participant's preferences regarding eco-innovations.

Both articles are interested in the sense that these researches shared new information. The article that was based on research of participant's preferences regarding eco-innovation was essentially helpful and more comparatively effective. This article was interesting and new for me as it delivers a message regarding knowledge of eco-innovation. Predominantly, large companies and industries are using these tactics of sensory marketing to manipulate their clients and customers to engage them in several ways such as senses to attract their products. This study evaluated that most of the respondents were confused to identify which sense should be preferred moreover, it was difficult for the customers to analyze the products through this way This article was preferably helpful as it shared awareness and created hope that this platform and innovations can create great influence regarding positive use of technology and awareness among communities. Modern technology used by the participants delivered information that new technology is preferably used in recent years. The results can also be used to deliver information and knowledge among communities regarding various serious and critical issues of the environment such as pollution and environmental factors that are hazardous for health.

Introduction

A significant change has been observed in the gay male world from 1890 to 1930. Chauncey made extensive research to demonstrate the changes that have been made before World War II. It is notable to mention that the author has used diaries, oral histories, newspaper accounts, and police records to illustrate the existence of a gay world before World War II. A critical examination of "Gay New York" is highly necessary to determine the existence of certain gay communities in New York. The author explicitly describes the urge of gay men to establish a specific space for them so they can be engaged in an intimate relationship with others. The urge for the establishment of a gay world was easily visible in the two neighborhoods including Greenwich Village and Harlem. Here, the focus is to illustrate the building of gay enclave in the New York region during the 1910s and 1920s.

Discussion

It is noteworthy to mention that the author has provided with an in-depth analysis and understanding of homosexuality. The author has demonstrated the idea that homosexuality was considered highly unethical due to which the gay community had to hide their sexual desires. A large number of anti-gay laws was in place due to which the gay world found it difficult to disclose their sexual identity (Chauncey, 1995). In order to avoid these anti-gay laws, the gay community began to found various necessary means to sustain in society. Literary skills of the author along with the provision of sufficient evidence such as reports by the anti-vice communities helped in revealing the bitter reality of the world before World War II. The areas of Greenwich Village and Harlem began to provide support for the gay community, which ultimately led to the establishment of the exclusive and discrete communities. Establishment of certain clubs and hotels began to provide gay men with an opportunity to interact with other homosexual individuals. Regardless of hiding their desires, gay men were able to express their feelings and affections of homosexuality in front of other gay members, without anyone judging them (Chauncey, 1995). It is important to mention that the provision of such space enabled the empowerment of the gay community.

The author demonstrates the ways in which the gay community carved out spaces for themselves to sustain in a given community. It is notable to mention that gay culture was highly suppressed in the late 19th and early 20th century. During that time period, the concept of homosexuality was considered as a taboo concept in the society, due to which it remained unseen for a major portion of the time. It is important to consider the fact that self-consciousness and group identification was unlikely to be accepted due to the lack of urban sub-cultures. Hence, the gay community began to provide opportunities for themselves in the two neighborhood, Greenwich Village and Harlem (Chauncey, 1995). The author tried to explain the reason behind the suppression of the gay community in the early 20th century. Sexual activities of gay were considered unethical in society. Anti-gay forces were in place due to the changing social antipathy. The systematic suppression of the gay community was not in place due to the sign of acquiescence or passivity by the gay community. However, the major reasons behind the suppression and oppression of gay people were in place due to the openness and assertiveness of gay people. It was analyzed by the leaders and members of the community that assertiveness of gay people would be catastrophic for the coming generations. The author demonstrated that the anti-gay forces wanted to damage the assertiveness of gay men and women in order to restrict its progress.

Extensive anti-gay forces made it difficult for gay men and women to live peacefully in those current circumstances. With the passage of time, an extensive gay world began to shape itself in the region of New York City. The author illustrated that the establishment of saloons, cafeterias, and apartments in New York began to provide a sustaining the environment for these gay men and women. At the beginning of the 1890s, gay people began to play a critical role in the social life of that region. With the availability of cafeterias, apartments, and saloons, gay people began to interact with each other without any fear of getting caught (Chauncey, 1995). The author demonstrated that the provision of a sustaining environment in the neighborhood allowed gay men to drank freely with sailors in that region.

The author significantly explored the importance of various residential opportunities in the neighborhood to provide a better understanding of the entire scenario. It is notable to mention that gay people were unable to show affection to one another in public space due to the placement of various anti-gay laws and forces. In order to engage in affections and intimate relations, gay people needed a specific place within that society (Chauncey, 1995). The author illustrated that the establishment of residence hotels and men’s club provided gay people with an opportunity to engage in an intimate relationship with one another. The author had given an example of Young Men’s Christian Associations (YMCAs), which afforded privacy to the young gay men in that region. It is noteworthy to mention that YMCAs were established to restrict the activities of the gay community and to rescue young individuals from the bad habit of homosexuality (Chauncey, 1995). However, with the passage of time, some of these YMCAs became a hub for young individuals to socially engage with each other.

The author presented the theme of invisibility with the existence of various cafeterias and bars within Greenwich Village and Harlem. It is essential to consider the importance of cafeterias and restaurants that provided an opportunity for the young population to fulfil their sexual desires. The author illustrated that it was easy for young men to drop their masks in order to avail the comfort of their other homosexual partner. In order to avoid from the anti-gay forces, gay men began to utilize comfort and affections in the gay bars. It has been analyzed by the author that class, race, and masculinity had made the existence of gay life multifaceted. The area of Harlem served as the center of the black gay community (Chauncey, 1995). The author had demonstrated that whites were also fascinated by the enclave in Harlem. Gay urban spaces in the Harlem and Greenwich Village was an initial step towards gay empowerment. However, each step towards gay empowerment met with strong and robust repression. The author argued that urban space for bachelors from residential opportunities to the bathhouse culture secured the future of the gay community.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, the author explicitly demonstrated various circumstance in the late 19th and early 20th century that suppressed gay community to flourish. Several anti-gay forces discouraged gay community to show affections towards one another. In order to empower themselves, gay men began to show affection towards one another in bars and hotels. Regardless of certain anti-gay policies in-place, gay community utilized a coping mechanism to sustain in the current circumstances. Areas of Harlem and Greenwich Village provide a sustaining environment for these gay men to remain even after the placement of anti-gay laws.

Social media has increasingly become a part of our everyday life. The people around us use social media for several purposes such as general networking with others, finding funny and entertaining content, filling up spare time, staying up-to-date with current events and relevant news, staying in touch with what their friends are doing, meeting new people, researching or finding products to buy, sharing their personal opinion, sharing their photos and videos with others, or just because most of their friends are already on the social media, to name a few. Some of these activities are fairly natural but others can cause strong emotions in us. For instance, positive connection with friends and family is important for both mental and physical health, and connecting to them through the Internet is way easier particularly for old people who are alone and often immobile, but at the same time cyber bullying is a reality too.

Therefore, for all of these and many other reasons, social media impacts our lives in one way or another. For example, too much keying can affect hands and wrists of the user. Similarly, eyestrain for staring at the screens is also a common occurrence. Lack of exercise and a lot of distraction must be made a part of the list too. Still, there is no simple answer as to if social media usage is good or bad for our health. Social media addiction has become a real-time phenomenon today. It has many positive and negative effects on us because it is such a pervasive influence on modern life now. Importantly, escaping the Internet has become harder due to the fact that everyone carries a smartphone or other devices wherever they go. Increasingly, people (including me) spend a lot more time online on social media websites such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

My favorite social media websites include WeChat, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and YouTube. Among them all, I use WeChat the most. It is a messaging and calling app. I primarily use it for calling my friends and family members, who stay away from my place, particularly on the weekends. Therefore, my biggest push to WeChat at any time of the week is that I miss my people, and online connectivity is the easiest and cheapest method to connect with them in today’s world. However, if I would average the time that I spend on this app then it would be one-and-half hours of chatting and video calling my friends and family members per day. Some of the my people also use Facebook messenger for calling and messaging each other but, fortunately or unfortunately, I do not have a current account on this website. Therefore, I do not use it for connectivity purposes.

On the other end of the discussion, I also use social media apps such Instagram, Twitter and TikTok for fun purposes especially when I am free and do not have any particular thing to pull through a certain period of time during the day. Among all of them, Instagram is my favorite. The app is all about sharing pictures, and thus, has an appealing interface. It is not slow or messy despite having so much visual content. Also, unlike Facebook, there is no flood of information on this site. Therefore, I love spending time on Instagram. Again, I use it more on the weekends, and averaging the time on daily basis will get me the same answer, i.e., one-and-half hours of Instagram scrolling everyday. Because I am not a big fan of Facebook, therefore, other than the Instagram I somewhat like to spend some time on Twitter too, i.e., half-an-hour a day.

TikTok is another social media app, which I primarily use for finding funny and entertaining content. It is the best platform for short-length videos to land. The available content is mostly fresh and unseen because the app provides everyone with the opportunity to capture and present their creativity. On average, I spend one-and-half hours on scrolling TikTok everyday. I also use YouTube for approximately one-hour on daily basis. The major motivation behind spending time on it is to watch gaming videos, which I am very much fond of. Also, the website is great for bookmarking the favorite videos. I can also watch them offline while traveling to and from my school/workplace (please choose one).

Simultaneously, I work on keeping my social media usage habits healthy. Although it is not an easy target to obtain with all the factors such as lack of exercise, laziness, and almost no social life, but I have managed to balance my real and social media life to some extent. Primarily, I use the social media websites at scheduled times. In this way, I do not let it interfere with my studies/office timing (please choose one) and offline relationships. Also, I have made a rule of not arguing with any person online. Thus, I managed to keep myself save from the negative side of the social media. Additionally, I have strictly developed the habit of not using social media while driving. Even when I have to wait for a green signal in a long traffic jam, I do not go on my social media accounts. Instead, I listen to my favorite songs on the car stereo. I know it is a little old fashion but I have found it to be a really effective method of not using phone when on the driving seat.

XX Foundation is an international organization that does humanitarian work that aims to relieve the suffering of those who are needy. They not only provide material aid for the poor but they also aim at the preservation of the environment to protect our planet. I have managed to learn a lot during my studies at my college.

That is why I have decided that after earning my degree in economics; I will work with the XX Foundation to help those in need in local as well as overseas societies. I may not be active enough to participate in all the field activities. That is why I aim to contribute to this organization by using my skills as an economist and help them to generate assets to supplement their funding. I would be able to provide sound advice to the foundation regarding the allocation of their funds, making sure that their dependence on donations is decreased. This way they would be able to work more freely in achieving their goals. I will also make sure that I operate all my fundraising activities under the law of the land.

Millions of people in the world do not have access to basic facilities that we often take for granted, like food and clean drinking water. This is mainly due to the damage that we have done to our environment in the form of waste that does not decompose easily like plastic bags.

I will initiate new programs in the foundation that will use these waste materials and recycle them to generate funds that will ultimately help the poor in making their lives easier. This will help us in helping our society and raising awareness about the preservation of the environment at the same time.

Latino Immigrants in America

Immigration is not uncommon in the united states of America as it holds the majority influx of immigrants from all over the world and this ratio is larger than any other country in the world. Many reasons serve as motivation for migration, for instance, better opportunities, escaping the plight of war, globalization and natural disasters such as plague, earthquake or famine. The history of immigration in America dates back to the late 19th century and early two decades of the 20th century since, in this period, the first wave of immigrants entered in U.S.A for better opportunities. According to an estimate, second-generation immigrants from Latin America constitute a massive portion of this immigrant population. In the documentary, Harvest of Empire and Garcia’s article, “Latino Migration and U.S. Foreign Policy”, the history of Latin America and its relation with American Foreign policies are discussed. This essay revolves around the history of Latin America before and after the first wave of immigration to America. Similarly, it also discusses the dark reality of American foreign policies as a key factor behind the large-scale presence of Latino immigrants in America.

In Harvest of Empire, a common myth about immigration in America is debunked that people from different countries, choose to come to America because it is a land of endless opportunities and provides a better lifestyle. He gives his audience a reality check that Latinos came in America since their land was invaded by America in the 19th century (Eduardo López). It is also a general notion that America is an epitome of human rights and it is a liberal state, however, slavery was first abolished in Latin America many years before America. Likewise, Latin Americans maintained the legal rights of once enslaved people and gave them liberty and freedom. Quite contrary, the war between America and Latin America was fought on an ideological basis since racism was extremely prevalent in 19th century America. As a result, there was a lot of collateral damage, as well as, around fourteen thousand U.S soldiers losing their lives in this war. In the same manner, American forces looted the resources of Latinos at a larger scale and took over their agricultural lands and small-scale businesses. This situation forced people from different parts of Latin America to enter America since they were in a state of war. American foreign policies directly affected the ratio of immigrants because of its invasion of the neighboring countries, such as Latin America. After the Mexican-American war, immigrants continued to enter America because of the post-war conditions and unequal distribution of resources from their native country to their new home country.

Likewise, due to the increased political and economic interests of America in looting the resources of Latin America, its foreign policies were altered throughout history to date, so they can justify their hegemony in these postwar areas. Similarly, Garcia states that in the background of this hegemonic control, many schemes and slogans were introduced such as manifest destiny and Monroe Doctrine. American presidents, in their tenure (especially Ronald Reagan), were well aware of the resources and manpower found in Latin America and they kept on stressing the need of having good relations with their neighboring countries (flavia, “IMMIGRATION”). However, in reality, these slogans were no less than an attempt at increasing the imperial control of America in Latin states such as Mexico, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. These American foreign policies resulted in the continuous fluidity of these immigrants into America to take up different jobs and prosper. These immigrants were directly affected by the Great Depression because it turned them into cheap laborers where they could barely meet both ends. American economy, in the time of crisis, always looked up to Latin America as a potential market for trade, but unfortunately, this trade was not done on an equal basis and only America generated its capital. To establish its control, America declared that in many parts of Latin America such as Cuba there was a disorderly and dangerous situation concerning drugs. American foreign policies damaged the sovereignty of Latin America at a much larger scale and caused multiple challenges regarding their domestic and international politics, as a result of it. Moreover, America plagued the Latin markets with the drug trade and forced the locals to buy American goods. Quite similarly, the condition of Latino immigrants in America was not any different than their native country after the Cold War (flavia, “IMMIGRATION”).

America and its nationalistic ideology make it exceedingly difficult for Latin Americans to keep their cultural values intact in their home country. The second generation, Mexican Americans and their children refuse to go back to their countries because they have been deprived of these facilities in their native land by American foreign policies. American policies focus on drugs in Cuba but they do not give them equal benefits of trade revenue. Similarly, in the documentary, President Clinton made many immigrants cross a desert as a corridor to enter America as part of his foreign immigration policy (Eduardo López). The state has to justify its imperial control and strong capitalist position in the free trade market by taking these immigrants and leaving them in a helpless condition where they are forced to culturally assimilate in their host culture. In the light of this discussion and examples from both the sources, it is evident that America is not an attractive destination for immigrants because it is known as a land of opportunity. Moreover, as a result of American foreign policies, Latin Americans are forced to enter America in a postwar condition. They are not well received in America because of the strong sense of American nationalism. In the past, Latin Americans were more civilized than Americans concerning the treatment of slaves and after the Mexican-American war and mass American looting in their native land, the flow of resources was unequally distributed among Latin Americans. This practice is still dominant in American foreign policies due to their political and economic interests in Latin America. I agree with the points made in both these sources because they provide a background history of Latin America and how America looted its resources to create its imperial control on the former state. Besides, this background history also discards the myth that immigrants are getting their rights in America or they are a burden on the American economy. In reality, they are not here because America is a liberal state which focuses on equality and liberty, instead, they are here as war refugees because of American unlawful control on their native economy and trade policies.

Civil Rights Museum of Greensboro offers a lot to be admired. The museum is enriched with strong magnificent artifacts, attractive historic images and films alongside interactive displays that motivate audience to explore different historical aspects. However, there are some shortcomings that hinder the museum to attain its full height. In this way, the most annoying element regarding visor’s experience is that those who enter museum, they have to be taken to a guided tour; no one can witness the galleries, displays, and the splendid artifacts according to their own pace. Although docents are adequately trained, the viewers get just a one explanatory perspective on all the things as the decent has the responsibility to take the groups through the premises.

The question arises that whey does the museum insist on the guided tour, in contrast to other civil rights museum in the country? Why not provide visitors/viewers with the opportunity of a tour, or the audio guide? Why they cannot go through the galleries by themselves? The answers to these questions is simple and it lies in the core exhibition, which does not have the interpretive panels. Furthermore, objects are without any labels. Initially, the authorities of museum described the absence of labelling as a delay in produced and an omission essential to open the museum on the eve of the 15th anniversary of the sit-in.

Like all humanly things, this place is not without shortcomings. The first and foremost aspect is that the persons are not free to move and explore the museum on their own. Everyone should go through the museum in a tour that is led by some authorized person. No one can go through and enjoy the place on his own. The reason behind this insistence is that the management of the place has not placed proper explanation of the various aspects of the place with the exhibits. The management was off the view that the place had to be opened on an urgent notice and the slabs have been ordered to be made. The positive aspects of the current way are that the people who have any queries regarding the place or a thing may ask on the spot. Ignoring the downside of this act, the management is continuing with it.

Museum officials originally described the labeling lack as postponement on the 50th anniversary of sit-in. Other source of critical bewilderment is the lacking of visibly clarified larger narratives and themes in several spaces of exhibition. It looks like exhibit curators and designers struggled a lot in situating the occasions in Greensboro into a great national story and even international story as well. At times, the Greensboro Four and the Woolworth counter appear to be at the center of everyone's attention, however, due to an oft shifting narrative focus, it looks more like a conventional civil rights history museum where the present artifacts do not necessarily illustrate what is being tried to convey. As a viewer, I often felt torn between competing images and ideas

Solution to this problem is reasonably simple. In the core exhibit, put better and more labels just like most of the major museums does. With the help of such labels, visitors of the museum will experience their visit on their own terms, by using different signage as the resources of education. Labels need to be well-designed and conceptualized. Moreover, they can also be used in the clarification of the core narratives. This will allow visitors to understand museum with several layers of its meaning. As the location of powerful event itself houses an event which influenced a large movement in all of its national and international implications of history.

Literal Analysis

The key thing that can be seen with regards to this Crip is that how important it is for the person to make sure that they have a sense of self identity with regards to how they look at themselves. The idea is to make sure that the manifestation of this question should emerge out as a major answer with regards to how an individual tends to live their lives rather than signifying a small moment in their lives. The idea behind the whole effort is to make sure that the compilation of the work is that done in the manner that allows the investment to be done in a much more coherent manner with regards to how a person tends to identify themselves at the point of time. The whole premise of the narration is to ensure that the person tends to realize their self worth at any given point of time and how it tends to relate with themselves at the broader level.

Putting a Human Face to the Advancement

One of the key thing that the text has been able to do is that it has made sure that how at any given point of time, the advancement that is witnessed in the human mind are needed to be reflected upon at the particular point of time. The other thing that is very important during the course of the whole process is to make sure that an individual should have an understanding with regards to how the complex methodologies and thinking rationales are needed to be worked out. Commentary On Disability

One of the strong points of the book is that how well it has talked about the disability. To understand this aspect of the narration, it is important that some insight is developed about Harriet McBride. She comes across as a woman who has not allowed her disability to stall her work or stop from doing anything. The book provides a very intriguing insight about how one is supposed to deal with the disabilities and how these things should not be hindrance in any way when it comes to the way broader decision making is supposed to be done in one’s life. One of the things that has been discussed during the course of the narrative that how there is sense of aggression when it comes to all the major decision making that is being done by Harriet. The problem–a writer feeling unsure or uncomfortable with gender neutral pronouns–is solved by learning the typical forms they take. Importantly, this resource doesn’t question the validity of gender neutral pronouns, and it also extends beyond encounters with academic writing.

Conclusion

In the hindsight, it can be said that the work has provided some brilliant insight when it comes to the way different aspects of one’s life are supposed to be handled. This aggressive tendency seems to have fallen over in some of the other characters as well that have gone along way towards determining how one should make sure that they are tackling different situations during the course of their life. Not only that, it sets the reader into the path of the enlightenment in a very different manner in a sense that how one is supposed to make sure that they tackle their problems head on and make no qualms about it.

It has generally been seen that there are various areas in theater and drama that needs to be focused for making a play or drama successful. Set and costume designing, both are the attributes that help audience for understanding things related to the play even before the characters start to act or speak. One of the central themes that one should be focused on is the costume designing. It is just like investing in clothes for making the final appearance and character impressive. Costume is the central attraction that refers to the dress style which points towards a particular time, class, or society. While designing a costume for any character it is important for me to keep in consideration for which time, society and character I am designing costumes. I have been assigned a task to design costumes for a play called “The Importance of being Ernest” that was written and performed in the Victorian period. My artistic choices for making the costumes of this play would be very clear as my main focus would be on Victorian period. Time period is the main thing I would consider in which this play was performed. My choice of costume will help the character as well as direct for communicating what they want to convey to the audience. Choices that I make for making a costume of my characters of "The importance of being Ernest" should be able to link both time periods, time in which the play was written and the time in which that play is going to be performed.

The main concept, I have while working on this project of designing costumes for the characters of “The importance of being Ernest” is, how to connect the audience of the twenty-first century with that of the eighteenth century. My main focus remains on the combination of the colors and texture of the fabric so that I could provide the best visual understanding to the audience. The conception that works behind my mind is that the costumes, I am going to make for the main characters of this play would create a style statement about the whole society. Another thing that I am going to look over while making costumes would be assisting performers and the audience. Actors and audiences are going to make a strong personal association with character and what he/she would be wearing on the stage. Being a costume designer, I have to keep in mind two things, first is the element of the visual design and second is the material that it could use practically for creating costumes. Few of the concepts I would be concerned about are, my costumes must link the character and the environment in which the character is living, as it would be quite strange if I would design rich dress for a poor character because that would not make any sense so I have to keep all the minor details of that character in mind while finalizing the costumes.

Anything done must serve any purpose. Nothing in this world is being done without any purpose or goal. Likewise, the thing cannot be denied that there are various goals of costume designing. Costume represents idea of the play. Another major goal that I have being a costume designer is to give the audience a flavor of the historical period depicted in the play. This thing must be taken in consideration that the play for which I am designing the costumes is of the Victorian era and it is important for me to connect the audience of the twenty-first century with social norms, traditions, and ideology of eighteenth century. The goals of designing costumes and set designing are almost similar. There are five basic goals of costume designing that are listed below:

Costume helps in establishing style and tone

I always keep in mind while making the costume that whether I am designing a costume for a negative character or positive character because it is important for defining the tone and style of the character. Costume spots light on the tone and style of the character.

Costume points towards a place and time

Styling and the costume of every character would depict the demography as well as the time in which my character would be living.

Gives information about the character

The costume also gives a lot of information about the character such as his age, social status, and taste etc.

A costume makes proceedings easier for the director and actors

Another thing that I focus on while designing costumes of the characters of this play is assisting the actors and directors so that my costume could help them in conveying their message without putting extra efforts.

Practical needs of the actor are fulfilled by through the costume

Another goal, my costume would serve is that they fulfill the practical needs of the character for putting life in the role that a character plays.

So as a whole, it could be asserted that costume designing is an important department that helps the director and the actors for conveying the message. It won’t be wrong to say that being a costume designer, one has to note all details about the script so that location, age, society and theme of the play could be communicated by the costume of the characters. A costume designer is the main person who paints the frame of the play. Choices that a costume designer makes provide a great opportunity to the characters for giving creative expressions.

The Rhetoric of an image (Under the observations of Roland Barthes)

Introduction

Advertising one’s own products has become a widespread practice nowadays. We see advertisement everywhere, on television, on the internet, in magazines, in the form of billboards, and where not. The advertisement industry has grown so vast that almost every organization or firm makes use of it. There was a time when only some companies or organizations used to take help of advertising to market their products, but now, every other company has to take the support of publicity to create awareness about their products and get their sales figures to go up.

In previous days, most of the times, the business was handled by a single owner or a very limited number of people. At that time, the owners relied on their own strengths and used to advertise the products using their own ideas. As the businesses had not grown much and the companies did not earn much revenue, the owners considered it a luxury or waste of money to invest in marketing. Even if some businessperson thought of indulging in marketing activities, he or she would do it himself or herself. The least they would do is to get it done by some family member or any employee of the company, for minimal charges. Those were the times when people had not realized the true worth of marketing and advertisement. People especially businesspeople were unaware of the perks of advertisement and how high the tactics of marketing can take a business.

With the advancement in technologies and the business world, the business people also revolutionized, they started adopting new and smart techniques in every aspect to business to reduce their costs and increase their profits; which is the ultimate goal of every businessperson. With the revolution in every field of the industry, including production, human resource management, logistics and sales, many advancements also came in the department of marketing. The owners and managers of the business firms started realizing the worth of marketing activities and advertisement for their business and also started feeling the need for marketing their products. The organizations began hiring employees explicitly dedicated to marketing purposes and began utilizing their services for advertisement activities. With the growth in the business, the companies started developing a separate department for marketing, where a team of intelligent workers was hired to design various marketing strategies and advertisement plans for the specific products (If the product line was vast) according to the demographics of the market.

Advertisement can be done through any means; a marketer may use a video, an image, a text or even a gesture to show the value of his or her product. We see many advertisements on a daily basis on the internet, on television, during TV shows, while going to work in the way, on a bus, on billboards, in newsletters, on magazines, or even in the form of the actual product in front of us. Everything is advertisement. Many subliminal techniques are used by the advertisers to catch the attention of the consumers. Advertisers try various unique methods to attract consumers and influence them to buy their products. Most of the times, advertisement carry a comic twist or the appearance of celebrities to highlight the importance or use of the product being advertised.

Image advertising is an advantageous and popular method of advertisement. Images project a picture on the minds of the viewers regarding the product. It is an abridged and concise form of advertising but carries a complete message in it. The message may be regarding the characteristics or properties of the product or its use. It can also be about the usefulness of the product for the consumers. Most of the producers use more than one techniques for the advertisement of their products, i.e., they use image advertisement as well as video form for advertising products, and try to be creative as much as they can. The following piece of writing analyzes an image meant for advertisement purposes.

The image mentioned above has been selected for analysis under the observations presented by Roland Barthes in his essay “The Rhetoric of the Image.” (Barthes)

Discussion

The image under analysis has been designed for a ketchup product under the name of "Heinz Tomato Ketchup." Heinz is famous for its quality products in the industry of food products, especially its ketchup products are famous all over the world, for their taste and quality. This image is primarily intended to highlight the best quality of the tomato ketchup produced under the banner of Heinz. The advertisers have put all the emphasis on highlighting the quality aspect of the product instead of providing any information for the usage or the usefulness of this product in daily life.

The Three Messages

The image under analysis, the Heinz Tomato Ketchup image, shows a bottle of tomato ketchup, made of tomato pieces cut in circular form, staked upright in a straight manner, in the shape of a ketchup bottle. This bottle has been portrayed to stand upright in front of a bright red background. The bottle carries the sign and label of a regular Heinz tomato ketchup bottle.

Under this picture of a ketchup bottle, there is a message written in the English language “No one grows Ketchup like Heinz." These words have been written in white so that they can be read easily. If any color had been used, the message would not have been legible, and it would have affected the quality of the advertisement.

All these components and the writing project a potent message on the minds of the viewers, The images set a ground for the quality of the product and creates a positive impact over the brains of the consumer. The image carries all the linguistic message, the denoted message and the rhetoric of the message as well.

The Linguistic Message

The image or the advertisement carries the tag line or the message under it which states “No one grows Ketchup like Heinz." It is a very powerful message as the whole phrase highlights not only the quality of the product but also magnifies the glory of the company. The advertisers have put a focus on two faces of the product, which first of all means that the quality of the ketchup produced by Heinz is unmatchable; the ketchup produced under the banner is unquestionably tasty and delicious.

The other aspect of this linguistic advertisement emphasizes that no other company can compete Heinz in its product’s quality. No other ketchup producer in this world can make ketchup better than Heinz.

The Denoted Message

The other component of the message is an image of a bottle of ketchup, labeled with Heinz regular logo and Label. This is also a very inspiring and impacting image as the container is not shown to be an original glass bottle filled with red tomato sauce. Instead, the bottle was composed of slices of tomatoes, forming a big, juicy tomato. The only difference is this tomato is cylindrical, but the edges are shown round, just as a regular tomato. By the usage of this brilliant technique, the advertisers want to imply that there is no difference between Heinz Tomato Ketchup and a real tomato. The image strongly passes on and focusses on a single message, and that is that Heinz Tomato Ketchup is originally made up of real tomatoes; there is no artificial flavor used.

Rhetoric of the Image

The rhetoric of this image is to imply the fact that Heinz uses only quality raw material in the production of its tomato ketchup that is only ripe and juicy tomatoes. So the consumers can blindly trust the product and use it with complete faith.

The linguistic message used under the meaningful image also conveys the same word in a single phrase along with the other message the no other producer in the food industry can compete for the quality of the tomato ketchup produced by Heinz, as it only uses real tomatoes in the production of its tomato ketchup.

Conclusion

In short, the image used by Heinz for the advertisement of its tomato ketchup is compelling and influencing, it creates a positive image regarding Heinz and its products (in general) in the sight of the viewer and inspires them to buy the product. Moreover, it carries all the elements of an advertisement prescribed by Roland Barthes in “The Rhetoric of the Image.”

Human trafficking is one of the most tragic and horrendous forms of human rights violation, that is increasing at a rapid rate all over the world. The United States of America is also not safe from this plague. All over the world, there are more than 50 million people that are victims of sex trafficking. Every year $32 billion is earned through human trafficking. These people are forced into various illegal activities and professions by force, such as forced labor, slavery, servitude and are often forced into the demeaning profession of a sex worker. About 80% of the trafficked victims are forced into sex slavery. These people are also forced to donate their organs. Often young children are kidnapped and trafficked into the other countries or states by the mafia. But this issue of human trafficking has been confused with the illegal immigration in America when these two issues are completely separate. This intersection of human trafficking and immigration is alarming and is posing threat to the innocent victims of human trafficking.

Many of these victims are trafficked to foreign lands through illegal means, using various methods. Some of them are kidnapped others are lured and deceived with the promise of legitimate jobs in foreign countries. A quarter of such cases involve the minors who are abducted from their families. These victims live the life of fear and live their lives as a vulnerable group in the United States due to several reasons. People who are trafficked to America often don't have their passports and many of them live troubled lives as the traffickers often keep their passports and deprive them of their right if living as free citizens. Policies exist regarding the victims in law and legislature, but after the revamping of the Trump administration policy, the victims are facing severe risks. Considering the fact that the illegal undocumented immigrants pose threat to the country, the need for the stricter policies is understandable but all these undocumented individuals are based on illegal immigrants as many of them are the victims of the human trafficking. Since the inauguration of president trump, he has been repeatedly mixing the terms the illegal immigrants with the human trafficking victims. He referred the entire undocumented community as rapists, criminals and traffickers, he is also outing efforts in mobilizing the immigrant enforcements to deport the immigrants without any due process. He has also mentioned some concern for the victims, but till this day all of his efforts are just based on verbal speeches. But the changes in his policies have raised concerns for the victims and they fear deportation and risk of engagement with law enforcement agencies.

Usually the aim of the enforcement agencies is to protect the victims of the trafficking but still, the undocumented status of the victims still put them under serious threat. Due to the changing rhetoric of the government regarding the undocumented population, victims are confused regarding their changing status, as the police and prosecutors might try to provide the protection to the victims through building case but the federal officers can always take charge and deport the individuals without any right to appeal.

These policies of the Trump administration has played a great role in increasing the risk of human trafficking as the victim's rate of reporting the trafficker has reduced significantly, which is becoming a major cause of aiding the traffickers. Now Human traffickers can easily use the card of fear of deportation on victims to abstain hem from reporting them to the higher authorities. Victims can’t think of taking any legal action against the guilty as now they not only fear the danger for the life of their loved ones but they are facing threats from the government.

According to the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, the victims and survivors qualify for the special forms of migration protection, known as T-Visas and U-Visas. There are around 50,000 of such visas available annually for the victims, but these are often underutilized. The United States Citizenship and immigration statistics state the only 5000 to 600 of these visas is utilized annually due to the difficult requirements of the Visa and requires the victims to testify against the trafficker, which is not possible for all the victims. These Visas are also temporary for a period of four years.

Underutilized visas and changing immigration process and policies of the trump government are protecting the traffickers and is causing an increase in the human trafficking events in the United States. Impacts of the loss of rights that are enjoyed by the rest of citizens could be clearly seen on the life of the prisoners who are on parole. Another significant impact that negatively affects life of prisoners on parole is the tag of being on temporary release as authorities want to check them and they are being given a chance to behave well in the society, but most of the time it has been seen that they are discouraged by their fellow beings. Lack of confidence has been found as an impact on the life of prisoners on parole. It could be witnessed commonly that they are being deprived of all the rights that they used to enjoy before committing a crime and being sentenced for jail. One of the most challenging tasks for them is to get adjust in the society that is not even ready to accept them as a part of their society again. Prisoners on parole are being made a victim of inferiority complex and are degraded for being a criminal. They have to face many restrictions that cease their growth in society; for example, they are not allowed to keep any weapon not even for their self-defense. They are not granted any job license, and they cannot hold any public office. They are being deprived of voting; they are not allowed to cast a vote. All these restrictions and separation from the rest of society makes them psychopaths.

When they are placed back to the society where they are being realized that they are not a part of their life anymore, they become a victim of isolation and wants to grab the loss rights that they should get after spending so many years in prison (Freiberg,et,al,2018). Discrimination makes them more insecure as they cannot do anything that others could do considering them their right. This element of discrimination inculcates in them negative feelings about the society in which are being placed again.

Restrictions about things that were once a part of his/her basic rights makes them devastated and they feel being placed in a society from where they never belong to, and this is what makes them mentally upset and torture. They become patients of depression and being treated like they don’t belong to the society they are being placed in. Prisoners who are on parole are release so that they could get themselves adjust with the society from which they are departed, but when they are going to be deprived of all their fundamental rights, it can never be expected from them that they would adjust in the society again (Sorensen,et,al,2019). After the snatching of their rights, it could not be expected from them that they are going to be a productive part of the society and nothing beneficial could be expected from them. This thing should be kept in mind that if they are not going to be treated like the rest of the people and not given enough rights like the rest of the people of society than at the same time expectations from them should also be lessened if they are not getting what the rest of people claims with dignity.

Prisoners who are on parole are forced to think that they are no more normal beings and are still the same criminals who have suffered in prison and got punished for their crime. Feelings of inferiority are being incorporated in them that lower their spirit of being a better person that they were before committing the crime. Losses of all the basic rights make them feel that they are even in a worst prison where they are being punished not only physically but also psychologically. Prisoners on parole experience worst feelings of being deprived of all those rights that should be protected by the authority rather than being snatched off.

The book, A Streetcar Named Desire, written by Tennessee Williams, highlights societal brutality. The author narrates the story of a woman who creates an illusion for herself and the society in search of happiness. Thirty year old protagonist, Blanche had lost her parents, husband, family home, and job as a teacher. She had nowhere to go so she came to live with her sister Stella who is married to Stanley Kowalski and pregnant. She is weak emotionally as well as penniless. She is greatly traumatized by the death of her husband whom she married at a young age of sixteen. Her husband committed suicide after she taunted him for being sexually incapable. She repeatedly tried to escape guilt by involving in sexual affairs with strangers. She was envious of the lifestyle and husband of Stella. However, she was influenced by the muscularity of Stanley. She was attracted to Mitch, a friend of Stanley’s, because of his kindness, unlike Stanley. Mitch was also interested in her. 

As the story progresses, the tension between Blanche and Stanley intensifies. He becomes more attracted to her physical appearance. But she showed her disdain towards his crudeness and coarseness. She repeatedly mentioned the cultural differences between them. Their conflict turned into a war for the affection of Stella.

Eventually, the story reaches its climax on the birthday of Blanche. Her sister was at the hospital giving birth while Blanche was at home. Blanche decorated the apartment to celebrate her birthday. The tragedy started when Stanley, who was drunk and agitated by Blanche’s comments, raped her to prove what she used to say about his superiority. She became disgusted and at the same time drew to his utter coarseness. She rebelled the last time as opposed to her polite yet sexually suppressive background. It seems that she did that to reprimand herself because she felt like she had dishonored her soul. Blanche’s resistance and fight against the oppression of Stanley was the final loss she bore in her entire life. The moment she had arrived at her sister’s house, her delicate personality had already reached a breaking point. Now, she was completely wrecked and shattered. She became an outcast and was sent to a mental asylum.

In the end, Blanche lost her only close relative, her sister Stella, and also Mitch whom she thought was a perfect man. 

Reading the book, The Street Car Named Desire, provided me with a new insight on the despicable act of ‘lying’. Blanche explained this act as a way to believe that her life was better. Her reasoning sounded rational, however, it was far from reality. She distorted her image and lifestyle in her head and for the people around her. She tried to deviate her mind from the guilt of her husband’s death. She opted for an imagination different from reality but, in the end, a reality she was running from, stood in front of her. I believe, Williams portrayed the fact that we all hide something from others. He reflected elements of his personal story into the book. The book forces the reader to think about the conflict which arises when the society learns a fact about a person which he does not want to share. Another personal conflict arises when a person realizes that what he has imagined is far from reality. People go through numerous struggles every day. I think that a person should be strong enough to realize the truth and society should not be judgmental to overpower anyone. Everyone deserves an equal right to live and enjoy life according to his perspective and without being dominated.

There are several methods which can be used by people to solve the global warming problem.

Solar Photovoltaic

These cells can be used to convert solar energy into direct current. Various forms of silicon are used to make these materials. Materials are charged with positive or negative carriers as required. The semiconductors are then joined together to form junctions which produce electricity when passed through light. Care has to be exercised about the temperature of cells which should not increase beyond 45 degrees Celsius. This method can be used on rooftops and in farms, making 10-60 MW of electricity.

Concentrated Solar Power

In this method, solar power is reflected through some special equipment to heat up a liquid at high temperature. A portion of this fluid goes to a heat engine so that heat energy can be converted to electricity. A long U-shaped mirror is used to reflect solar rays to a pipe taking oil to a chamber where water is heated to make steam. This steam is then used to run a generator to make electricity. Another form of this design is a central tower with a number of mirrors surrounding it. There is an option to store heat in some specialized materials and then use it to produce electricity at night as well. The last form of this method is a big dish that changes the direction to track the sun and reflects light to a receiver. Expansion of hydrogen against some turbine produces mechanical energy necessary to run a generator which produces electricity.

Wind

Kinetic energy of wind is converted to electricity with the help of wind turbines. There is a gear box which turns slow rotors into faster ones so that mechanical energy is converted to electricity in a generator. There is a higher efficiency shown by turbines which are placed at a higher point because wind speed is greater. Larger turbines are used on sea shores or on large land areas covered with mountains.

Geothermal

This method allows extraction of energy with the help of hot water under the earth’s surface. This process is undertaken with the help of geothermal power plants. Dry steam, flush steam, and binary variants of geothermal plants are used. Dry and flush systems are used where underground water temperature is 180-370 degrees Celsius. There are two holes made in the ground: one for steam only and the other for liquid water and steam. The pressure of steam formed in the first hole powers a turbine which is used to generate electricity. Some gases do not condense so they are released in the air. In flash steam system, water and steam enters a flash tank which is kept at low pressure causing vaporization of water. These vapors drive a turbine to produce electricity.

Hydroelectric

This is the biggest source of electricity around the world providing 17.4% of total electricity in 2005 CITATION Mae08 \l 1033 (Jacobson). Water moving due to gravitational force moves turbines and runs generator. This form of electricity is used for both base load and peaking power when required.

People can play an important role in adoption of these alternative ways of producing energy. Firstly, they will have to be educated regarding the negative impact of current sources of energy on the global warming issue. It will be more appropriate if awareness is provided to the younger generation. All the above mentioned options can be implemented by the governments of countries. Dependence on hydroelectric power should be minimized especially in the third world countries. People should be encouraged to plant more and more trees so that the impact of gases is reduced in the atmosphere. People should also avoid burning anything in the open air that can produce hazardous gases. There should be a fine on any person who is found cutting trees without permission.

In the case of a socializer, the groups can also have enough power to mold their manager turned leader as he will try to avoid any conflict. The same result can be driven from the abdicator as the manager will not focus on the group. Fence sitter and motivator might also end up giving some of their powers to the groups, but it will be hard in the case of a driver as he will dictate the group.

Leader's cooperation and supportive attitude are compulsory for the groups to work with full dedication. When the leader is a driver and demands more work with strict instructions, it is natural for the group members to automatically withdrawn from the action. Similarly, if the leader will be socialized, then the group will take him for granted and will not complete the tasks on time. Group will decrease productivity if they are under the supervision of an abdicator as he will show no interest in their responsibilities. It is also hard to work under a fence sitter as he will not motivate the group to achieve more.

As a leader or a manager, I will prefer to exert the kind of powers that will motivate my group to strive harder and achieve the goals set for them. The powers will include elements of a motivator to perform equally and motivate other members as well, and some features of a socializer as connecting with the team is also essential.

Usually, discussions carried on in small groups are more effective as compared to the group discussions of large groups. One of very useful pieces of writing I found about the benefits of the discussions in small groups is “Three Reasons You Need a Small Group, Too” . The article throws light on the importance of the small groups and their discussions. The Author has anchored his focus on the grooming of the communication skills while discussing in a small group as compared to raising discussions in a large group.

Carolyn Taketa emphasizes on the fact that communication across smaller groups highly effective due to the small number of people participating in it. In a large group, the discussion becomes ambiguous and the message becomes distorted while it travels from one individual from another. Although some people are afraid of smaller group discussions as they are scared that people might judge them, but they need to keep in mind that they can be judged in a bigger group as well, and the chances of being judged in a bigger crowd increases significantly. So the importance of communication across a small group can never be denied.
