Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet developed by Microsoft which include features like graphics tools, calculations, pivot tables, text import wizard, etc. MS Excel allows users to enter their data and perform a wide range of calculations as per their requirement on the entered data. Users can export data directly from a word file to excel file. However, text import wizard feature in Microsoft Excell allows users to import data from a text file into worksheet format. Text important wizard also make sure that the data is imported in the way the user wants after examining the text file. There are three steps which include in converting the text file data into worksheet format (Text import wizard, n.d).
The first step is to open the ‘data' tab in the Microsoft Excel, then click on the ‘from text' option in the ‘get external data' group. After clicking on the ‘from text' option, the user will see the import text file dialogue where a user has to select the text file they want to convert into the worksheet. If data in the text file is separated by characters like comma, colon, space, etc., a user will select delimited, and if all the data is of the same length, then they will choose fixed width option. The next step is to specify the row of data which user wants to import, then select the character set which is used in the file and preview the file at the end (Text import wizard, n.d).
The second step is to set characters which will separate data from the text file and then review the data in data preview box to verify that data is separated in a way as you want to display it in a worksheet. After verifying the data, set the width of the fields in the data preview section. The third and the last step is to click the advanced option and specify the type of decimal, separators, and numeric values which contain a minus sign. After specifying different objects in a file, format the data columns to convert the columns in a format the way you want.
