Owing to an economic recession and social inequalities many people had to lose their jobs and therefore are forced to live below the living standards. The unequal distribution of wealth hinders social mobility as well thus making rich people richer while poor people are poorer. Despite several policies being made to diminish the economic inequalities the issue still persists in our society. In “The New York Times”, a well-known team of income inequality researchers Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel along with their fellow Gabriel produced a chart that depicts a change in income between the years 1980 to the year 2014 while summarizing the issue of inequality that is prevailing in the society ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"RquATKG5","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(\\uc0\\u8220{}Opinion | Our Broken Economy, in One Simple Chart\\uc0\\u8212{}The New York Times,\\uc0\\u8221{} n.d.)","plainCitation":"(“Opinion | Our Broken Economy, in One Simple Chart—The New York Times,” n.d.)","noteIndex":0},"citationItems":[{"id":258,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/local/sbFMNDWM/items/6YKDCC2R"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/local/sbFMNDWM/items/6YKDCC2R"],"itemData":{"id":258,"type":"webpage","title":"Opinion | Our Broken Economy, in One Simple Chart - The New York Times","URL":"https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/08/07/opinion/leonhardt-income-inequality.html","accessed":{"date-parts":[["2019",12,17]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (“Opinion | Our Broken Economy, in One Simple Chart—The New York Times,” n.d.). In the image above the red line resembles a classic hockey-stick graph. The red line is flat and is close to the zero before it spikes up at the end. The immediate spike in the graph depicts how a few affluent received a significant amount of raise recently while many people were paid fewer wages. The grey line on the chart depicts a change in income from the year 1946 to 1980. The message conveyed from the image is simple yet alarming. The image shows that many middle-class and poor people were not able to receive healthy raises despite this they had to pay a large amount of taxes than the rich people. The inflation after the raises in the rates of tax creates more problems for the poor and middle-class people thus increasing income inequalities.
The issue of income inequality is increasing day by day in the context of ethos it is necessary that people in the community must collaborate with the policymakers to make policies that help in reducing economic inequalities. In the context of logos, a macro view of inequality reflects that continued inequality may lead to social and political unrest thus people must cooperate with each other to improve their surroundings. In the context of pathos, economic inequality gives rise to several other issues such as homelessness that can severely affect an individual.
In a nutshell, there is a need to revise old policies to ensure economic stability by removing the income inequality among different groups of people.
