Facial Recognition
The ever increasing security concerns have led to an increase in surveillance and technological advancement to support state initiatives all over the world. The facial recognition system has been installed in the Hangzhou School in China. It works by identifying the expressions on the students the information is then processed by smart technological sensors showing the mental state of the studentsCITATION Jac14 \l 1033 (Whitehill, 2014).
Many researchers suggest that the system encourages public safety and a way of self-awareness that helps peoplebehave themselves.Surveillance and monitoring are hence as part of the expanding the security horizons on the educational institutions CITATION Kri10 \l 1033 (Best, 2010). The surveillance has led to categorizing the facial expressions with the present mental state of the students.
The monitoring system has raised questions about being a true representation of the student’s emotional state. Instilling fear amongst the students from the camera. This disciplining technique may increase the attention span of the students but it has long term repercussions that lead to anxiety, fear, and depression CITATION RMu19 \l 1033 (R Mustapha, 2019).
The frustration amongst the students is evident as theydespise this type of surveillance. Facial recognition system has been by large advocated fort the use of the systematicmonitoring that creates a better association amongst teachers and teaching methods, attendance and identity of students. The system has digitized the student-teacher relationship from a personal one leaving the emotional quotients below artificial intelligence CITATION Elf03 \l 1033 (Elfenbein, 2003). The facial recognition strategies lead to charging students for their behaviors. It is widely criticized for not enhancing more indulging education systems like in the US, but establishingassumptions on the student’sfacial expressions ignoring their psychological conditions.
Facial recognition systems are deployed all over public areas to keep track of the citizens and to avert any mishaps. This helps manage citizen behavior and detect deviating tendencies amongst them, the technique is widely used in the immigration and security policies. These AI systems help develop strategies and control the population behaviors in line with the law.
