English: Convenience versus Privacy
In today's technological and critical world, there is a large number of activities that the websites and online platforms are involved in. These activities can be found including a large number of activities that are not legal and allowed in the eye of law and court. This issue exists with a strong and high presence when it comes to sharing data and information on websites. It is so because there are many websites that share and save the text, photos, and other information when even start to type and upload. They share and save these text and photos etc. even before one commits and proceed to click "Post", "Share" or "Submit".
On the other side, it is also very important to find out which online platforms (websites) share and save our stuff but it is very difficult to find them in an easy way. It is important to find these websites that share and save our stuff because these activities of saving and sharing data and information put individuals and even societies in danger (Wang, N.P). In other words, individuals and society face a number of dangers or problems by trading privacy for convenience. Hence some of the dangers and issues that individuals and society face by trading privacy for convenience are elaborated below.
No doubt exists that the benefits of today’s digitalization for individuals and societies are very credible and huge. As well as the digitization also benefits companies or businesses and governments up to a high extent and almost all of the benefits to everyone are exciting. But it is also an undeniable fact that we enjoy the benefits but we get paid a lot for it as well. We do not simply pay for what we get and enjoy but we pay something more than what is reasonable to be paid for it (Wang, N.P).
This means that the websites that benefit us a lot to get engaged with the world and society such as Facebook and Twitter etc. do not only satisfy some particular needs. But they put us in danger as well. They put us in danger because they save and share our data and information that include critical things and bring forward without our permission. One of the best examples is the data and information are shared by WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media networks with police and other investigative departments when they are asked for it. While the person does not that his or her data is shared for what purpose.
The democratization of technology and websites affect all individuals, cultures, and societies. For instance, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in the U.S. now distributes all of its crucial benefits through the electronic process via the Electronic Benefit Transfer debit cards. But these could be used like other debit cards for the purchases at grocery stores, markets, and some restaurants (Tin-Yau, N.P). It is huge that it ensure cost saving as the benefits receipts do not require one to have a bank or deposit account. But the one who puts all of his or her details in the creating the account here may be used for the purposes more than we see and that is why it may put the user in danger at any time.
One of the known examples is the Cerf’s comment in which Vint Cerf said that privacy may be a historical anomaly which clarifies the statement that individuals and society may face and face dangers by trading privacy for convenience (Tin-Yau, N.P).
