Introduction

Throughout my life, I watched many biopics and read many biographies about great personalities who shocked the world with their brilliance and unusual powers. There are many great personalities in this world that inspired thousands by their god gifted talents, passionate devotion, dedication, and hard work. There are many scholars in this world but there are very few daring enough to swim against the tide and proved their capabilities despite being undermined and John Forbes Nash Jr is one of them. He served the world not only in the field of mathematics but he also provided an insight into different factors that govern chances and helped in making decisions for daily life complex systems.

Discussion

One of the most enthralling elements for me regarding John Forbes Nash Jr’s biopic is that it enlightens the audience that how students who were discouraged and rejected by everyone could solve mathematics problems that even John’s teacher thought was unsolvable. Russell Crowe who played the role of John Forbes Nash Jr played the very well role by showing the same passion with which John Forbes Nash Jr broke the international security codes of other counties and helped his American intelligence agencies in making their security system safer.

It is interesting to note that he was having mixed kind of education, as he wanted to be an engineer in the start so he shifted his interest from mechanical drawing into chemistry. Soon he was advised by his calculus instructor John Synge to opt mathematics as his major after having trouble with a physical chemistry class. This decision of switching to Mathematics proved to be life-changing. He also contributed in algebraic geometry. Not only he contributed in mathematics but at the same time showed excellence in other subjects that includes accounting, economics, politics, biology, and artificial intelligence. John was awarded Nobel Prize for his untiring efforts in mathematics.

Though during his life he started teaching at different institutes and in 1957 he divided his time between the two institutes (Courant Institute of Mathematics Sciences at New York University and Institute of Advanced Study). In 1959, John Nash was diagnosed with some symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia that made him unable to teach and research. He was admitted to psychiatric hospitals where he went through insulin coma therapy. One of the most inspirational factors is that he was a person who struggled with broken health and proved himself to the world. Though he faced many hardships and in life but he never gave up and made his standout from the rest of the students at the university. His Academy-winning biopic namely A Beautiful Mind (2001) is based upon his struggle with the mental illness and recovery. After much deliberation in 1994, Nash was jointly awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences and with that, he catapulted to almost instant stardom. His biography, and subsequently a Hollywood movie of the same name made Nash the poster child of mathematics in the minds of the general public. After the Nobel, Nash received numerous awards in recognition of work that he had done more than 40 years ago. He also received financial support to start his research program and continued to publish a few papers after that. After 1970 his mental condition restored he returned towards his academic work in around 1980s. Nash was famous for solving the mathematics problems upon which other colleagues gave up. He solved difficult problems that nobody else was able to do. He discovered things that were far different from the classics. Another appealing factor is his paper achievements that are as impossible as his story.

Conclusion

Taking a look at the life, passion, and struggle of John Nash, it could be concluded that life is not a bed of roses rather it gives one lemon and it is the personal choice of every individual whether to regret upon the hustle or make lemonade from the lemons that life gives. His life story has the charm that could appeal the readers and the audience for inspiring them to do something great in their life.
