No one can stay in isolation as communication is one of the basic necessities of life, but it cannot be denied that there are different types of communication as one cannot have same way of communication for everyone. Style of communication changes depending upon the person we communicate. There are various needs for connection such as inclusion, affection, and control. Specifically regarding friendship, one may have different kinds of communication depending upon his closeness with a friend. Communication depends on relation or bonding that one has with others. I have many friends, but I enjoy different kind of attachment with each of them. One of the main things is that, in friendship there should be no conception of strategy, manipulation and superiority, in fact, there should be spontaneity. With one of my best friend, my communication is direct as there is no need of manipulating things as closeness matters. My friend is not my boss in front of whom I have to put things indirectly to avoid mistake. While in the case of my other childhood friend, we mostly communicate indirectly as we have a strong bond and could get each other by using minimum words. Indirect communication helps us keeping our things private even when we talk in group. In my case, with the advancement of time, I have witnessed a shift in my interpersonal relationship as I started feeling that I become closer with a friend who minimized communication gap between us. My friendship became stronger with that friend who showed me affection and taught me how to control different situations adhering to basic needs of communication. In both types of friendship as mentioned above, I have assertive sort of communication where I handle my conflicts with my friends by expressing my feelings and thoughts directly without being judgmental.
But in cases where one despite showing affection gets no response, communication starts getting decline ultimately, interpersonal relations come to an end. My friendship with my best friend started from our school, where we met in grade one, and this friendship began over the topic of asking teacher about the home task. There was a significant effect of “interdependence communication attraction." Yes, there was a shift in our interpersonal attraction as my friend brought the element of superiority in our friendship that immensely influenced our relationship that we get parted at the end. So as a whole, it can be concluded that whether one communicates directly or indirectly, the primary purpose of communication is to achieve a sense of inclusion and affection that is important for others and only healthy communication can help one to realize that he /she matters for his/her friend.
