Mexico and the United States relationship
In the early days, the relationship between Mexico and the United States was not good. The United States and Mexico had several disputes over boundaries right from 1821 immediately after Mexico attained its independence. Mexico became concern with the number of Americans arriving in Texas. It was not clear of the intention of many Americans who were coming to Texas and this started to cause suspicious in Mexico government. The government of Mexico decided to stop Americans from coming to Texas territory. This did not ogre well with the administration of the American and therefore, the government decided to buy off Texas from Mexico. Though Mexico refused to accept the deal to let go Texas, Texas decided to declare it independent from Mexico and therefore, in 1836 Texas become independent. However, the relationship between the two countries broke out when Texas started to demand independent from Mexico to join the United States. According to Osborn (12), Texas made demand to leave Mexico for the United States after, then the American President made an attempt to buy Texas to leave Mexico. Mexico believed that it is the America which influenced Mexico to seek for independent and declared it independent. This therefore, worsens the relations between Mexico and America.
However, in 1845, the President of the United States, James Polk made an offer to purchase California and New Mexico from the government of Mexico and also sought permission to make Rio Grande River the border between America and Mexico. CITATION Roy15 \p 32 \l 1033 (Winkelman 32)) pointed out by this raised a lot of tension between the two countries. The proposed agreement made Texas part of the United States and therefore, Mexico refused to accept the suggestion causing a great rift between the two neighboring countries. The U.S. government also derived “Manifest Destiny," which stated that the United States had the moral obligation to expand the territory towards the Pacific coast, the plan which Mexico government refused to accept. This therefore, made the U.S. President Polk to send military forces to the region of Rio Grande for retaliation. The military were sent to prepare the ground for a full scale invasion, which took place immediately. It is therefore, important to point out that between 1820 and 1846, the U.S. and Mexico never had any good relationship and the despite was about the boarder, which the U.S. felt it had the right to expand its territories. The problem of setting up along the natural features is that it can move and when it moves the territorial boundary of a country increases. Since then the Grande River has moved several times and this is the reason Mexico government rejected the idea.
The Texas were of independent is related to the United States, Mexico war because, the Mexico felt that the call for independent by Mexico was caused the U.S. it is believed that the U.S. wanted Texas to leave so it can join it. Again, the United States supported the call for independent by Texas from Mexico and this is something which the government of Mexico did not take lightly. Besides the war which broke out between the U.S. and Mexico was caused by the expansion of boundaries and by expanding the border to Grande River, Texas was automatically becoming part of the United States, therefore, the war is related to Texas independent. It is therefore, evidence that the issues of border are what caused several disputes and war between Mexico and the U.S.
