The Pregnant Teenage Analysis
Introduction
Ethical issues related to teenage pregnancy have many conflicting situations where established rules are not sufficient that can answer clearly this ethical debate. Laws and codes concerning this matter are also insufficient that gives a clear way for professional related to health to solve this issue. We discuss the matter of bioethics which may cater to this issue.
Discussion
One of the pillars of bioethics is autonomy when health care is addressed. The autonomy of the patients discusses their decision making capability related to their health-related problems. But under some circumstances autonomy might be limited, and it is physician and health professional decision to protect the patient from any harm. They can take such decisions when the risk concerning death may be high(Junior et al., 2018). In such cases, the paternalistic action might take into effect because the case of autonomy might be preceded by the beneficence principle. In the first chapter, fundamental principles are expressed regarding Medical Ethics Code. The decision must be respected by the professionals when their decision is in accordance with the specific case which is scientifically adequate and correct. This is because risking the life of the patient cannot be put on risk by the physician.
According to many professionals, the patients in their adolescence are not in their mode of taking health-related responsibility and therefore should be passed through scrutiny of legal representation. This proposition can be questioned because it cannot be guaranteed by professional that minors benefit can be sought under these tutors guardianship.
Several studies show that taking autonomy into account; teenagers might not seek medical help or can delay because of their fear that their professional consultation might be revealed. In such cases, the physicians must omit some of their information related to their treatment so that patient-doctor relationship might not be compromised.
According to research, every year the teenage pregnancy in America tolls to more than 1 million. Half of the born infants are in great danger regarding their mortality. Most of the infants that live will face the enormous risk of their parental negligence(SmithBattle 1996). According to CEM article 74 says that confidentiality breaching of adolescent patients with even their close family members like parents or guardians is prohibited as long as the adolescent shows their ability to solve problems. Privacy according to this code of ethics, minor has the autonomous power to be seen by the parents without their parents knowing if it is preferred by them. Establishment of this guarantee is confirmed for their ability of decision making about themselves and their individuality recognition.
Conclusion
So keeping in view all the data and ethical codes, physicians must devise a way so that not only the autonomy and confidentiality should not be broken but also support and services should be provided on its entirety. Approach a physician should take is to encourage the adolescent to tell their parents and involve them, or to tell another adult individual who she trusts so that their guidance in decision making can be enhanced. Also, it should be encouraged to parents to build their communicating, listening, and nurturing skills throughout years of childhood. If parents respect the perspective of a child, the likelihood of involvement of the family in the adolescent decision is a likelihood. A healthcare provider can be able to make and develop supportive behavior through the encouragement of communication and supportive behavior skills and become a role model during visits.
Bioethics gives importance to the involvement of education and training given by the health professional related to this theme for young women wellbeing. Measures that prevent teenage pregnancy such as health education and condoms distribution protect them. It is ensured by the bioethical that pregnant teenager's right for sex and reproduction should be maintained.
