1. In one or two paragraphs, discuss your current knowledge of or interest in online assessment.
I personally believe that online assessments have brought an evolution and revolution when it comes to education and academic learning. Previously, the academics and quality learning institutes were restricted only for the privileged students who had time and ability to be physically present. However, with online assessments, the distant learning paradigms have evolved that have allowed more students to achieve high quality education without any geographic, time or physical constraints. I believe that online assessments are a great way for the students to engage, interact and communicate with an extensive diversity of peers, students and teachers. Access and interactivity with diversity allows the students to have a broad vision, greater level of acceptance, improved tolerance and better patience. Therefore, in my opinion, online assessments are not only providing an academic opportunity for distant students, but also allowing them to become more socially prepared.
2. Briefly discuss two items you learned from your Unit 1 Reading material.
Unit 1 was a very comprehensive section that had some valuable topics. Two items that I found most interesting and valuable for further research include “Principles of Effective Online Assessment” and “Using the Online Environment for Assessment Advantage”. I believe that these two topics are of essential importance and significance for our domain.
3. In one or two paragraphs, discuss how the two topics from question 2 could fit in with the course project.
The above topics are appropriate for the course project as they help us understand the policies, standards and specifications through which online assessments can be made more effective. Apparently, online assessment seem to be similar to traditional assessments. However, they need to be designed, tested and promoted in a different way. This is where the above two topics will be most valuable. They will help us develop measurable success pointers for an effective online assessment.
