Client profile
The client is a 12 years old boy who escaped from his home and was found by the police. The history of the child was searched and details about his household were also obtained that revealed that the child belongs to a deprived family. His father left them since three years ago and his mother is a house worker who is managing the house. She is the only one who is responsible for taking care of the financial and other responsibilities of the child.
The demographic information of the child depicts that his mother is African-American who was married to a Chicano. The boy has studied in school and acquired education till fourth grade. However his performance at the school is below average and at the two-grade level. He has escaped many times from the school and from home. He has been part of the street grand of young boys who are involved in criminal activities like stealing and drugs. The overall analysis of the situation indicates that the boy has taken the influence form those boys and exhibit risks of developing offensive behavior. It reflects the seriousness of the matter.
The boy is anti-social and don’t interact with his classmates at the school. He prefers to maintain distance and don’t take part in playing or other activities that could build his interaction with other boys. He exhibits emotions of discomfort and anxiety when he is in the gathering. He has been bullied at the school by the senior boys.
The relationship of the boy with his mother is not good. He complained about her beating him and locking him in the room. The mother has to manage her job and house duties that made her overstressed and burdened. This has negatively impacted the personality development and growth of the child. The boy is often out of control and don’t listen to his mother or anyone. This leaves her with the only option of using harsh treatment.
Eco-map assessment
Jim Ife, a Human Rights professor mentioned in his lecture, “social work is moving to embrace internationalism at a time when the nature of ‘the global' and the emphasis of international discourses are changing, and it is important for social workers to engage with the new international discourses” CITATION Jim07 \l 1033 (Ife, 2007). He identifies the number of issues handled by social workers including poverty, inequality, gender, race, refugees and human rights. He stressed on adopting strong policy globally that would improve the conditions for the humans CITATION Jon10 \l 1033 (Turner, 2010).
Eco-map is used for defining the steps adopted for providing adequate developmental opportunities to the child. “The assessment of the unit of attention is in itself a process, the beginning of intervention. It can be concretized as the making of a true map of a situation, a map that should be drawn with the client himself. As an assurance of the contract, a mutual definition between social worker and client of the situation confronting them, the drawing of a map could elicit a joint understanding of the salient and relevant features of the client's story” (Meyer, 1976).
The eco-map stresses on identifying the factors that will help the child in overcoming his personality development issues. The support intervention is adopted in the case of boy that will focus on providing him financial and emotional support. This will include provision of funds for his education, learning and development. The caseworker services stresses on providing adequate moral and emotional support that will require trust and empathy. The social worker will build relationship of trust by making child feel comfortable and recognizing the motive of the worker. Improved level for trust will build positive learning environment. Active listening and caring are also curial for building positive relationship between the worker and the client. The social worker will try to listen to the concerns of the child and his issues. He will make him talk and manage to analyze the situation. This will lead him to the situation of uncovering the possibilities of improving his behavior. Friendly relationship is dependent on the positive attitude.
The social worker will adopt intervention of collaborative care. This will be used for minimizing the extent of negative thoughts and depression experienced by the boy. This is used for helping the child to overcome his negative experiences associated with bully and physical abuse. Another intervention adopted for helping the child include counseling. The social worker will build a positive relationship with the boy by offering him counseling services. He will try to find the problems and the reasons behind them. This is an effective intervention that will permit the client to find his issues and accept change. This requires encouragement and moral support from the agent. Positive attitude and gestures of smile are important for improving the overall development and growth of the client.
