Stanley Milgram’s classic experiment of obedience focuses on social control and social conformity. Review Milgram’s experiment. If you were King or Queen of your kingdom, what behaviors would you classify as deviant? How would you make your populace obey and conform? Think about it and formulate a response.
Ans. Obedience refers to the submission of or acceptance, and compliance with an order or request of a person. Most of the times this person is present in an authoritative position. Contrary to this, the rejection of the accepted standards and deviation from the established norms is called deviance. If I were a king or queen, deviance for me would have meant not accepting and disobeying my established orders. As a king or queen, I would have listened to the issues, of the people especially those problems that are coming, in the way of people to obey those orders.
What are some ways in which our American culture stratifies people? See how long of a list you can come up with. Why do societies stratify? What do you think are the functions of stratification?

Societies are stratified on various basis like education, health, and most commonly (Henslin). American culture also stratifies society on the same standards. The most common standard for the stratification is wealth and income. Profession is also one major basis for classification of individuals.
How do we in the United States measure social mobility? How does social class and life chance play out in social mobility? Where do you see yourself 10 years from now regarding your place in society? Why?
Ans. Social mobility refers to movement or shifting of the participants of society especially individuals, families, and households from one social class to another. This social change in the society is measured with relativity to the current status and location of that particular individual in the given society (Henslin). Social class and life chance play a very important, and vital role in the process of social mobility, and life chances provide an important opportunity for social mobility.
