The media is a pioneer in giving awareness and mindfulness in this recent era of advancement. There are far-reaching effects of media and almost on every other person regardless of their gender, age or continent. Press has been active in promoting social mindfulness and educating individuals about common issues of society, i.e., religious conflict, violence, abuse, and many others. In the recent era of technological progression, media has advanced to the levels of insanity. The issue of realism is identified in this situation, as people of specific mental capacity or age group perceive everything shown on the media to be correct or right, the most affected age group in this regard is of adolescents. Every explicit information is being provided in this recent period of media advancement, nudity and sexuality are being widely exposed in the media through films, dramas, documentaries and more or less through advertisements. The media has a significant role in representing these issues and making the law's enactment over sexual matters. This research paper will explore the effect of sexual content being showed by current media on the different age group, mainly adolescents.
Discussion
Many studies have explored the effect of sexually explicit contents portrayed through mass media. Although there is a far-reaching effect of press on almost every other person regardless of their gender, age or continent, but the most affected age group in the society is of youngsters or teenagers. As they are more prone to popular culture and media channels, they are highly exposed to its aftermath. The adults are also under the influence of media, but their priorities are slightly different than the youngsters. Nudity and sexually explicit content are more attractive to young and energetic people. The media also provide the sex education, and it is through these media campaigns that many people are getting awareness related to safe sex, forced sex, condom usage, etc. this positive aspect of media shows that it is necessary for people to get educated by media regarding specific societal issues.
The preventions and limitations of sex and its repercussions are explored by the media and consequently conveyed to the population. This practice helped in the exploration of factors which were either negated or ignored by the society, i.e., issue of marital rape and safe sex. Health advocates in collaboration with the media market exposed such problems and took it to the reasoning of the mass population (Keller & Brown, 2002). The sexual health got exposure and focus from the health department as well as the common man, as they are much aware through the current media about their sexual behaviors and rights. Sine decade this issue has been highlighted through various platforms, but due to the technological invasion, this grasped the limelight in the modern era.
According to many studies, sex education cultured the teen, as the use of a condom in youngsters got increased, and also the decrease in sexual activity. It also created awareness among the girls related to forced sex or rape, sexual violence or abuse. The media has a significant role in representing these issues and making the law's enactment over sexual matters, i.e., and it got legal recognition. The voice of common man has been discovered through media, the problems which were subsided before got the limelight in current developed media stage. Along with the positive sides of this issue, there are certain negative factors related to the exposure of media related to sexual content. The problem of realism is identified in this situation, as people of specific mental capacity or age group perceive everything shown on the media to be correct or right. Mostly teenagers or youngsters are affected by this phenomenon, as they are of a fragile mind which is in the process of building its cognitions related to the societal paradigms. This negligence mostly depicts the content having sexual activities in it focuses on the desire of sex by romanticizing the idea rather than portraying the real consequences of it, i.e., unwanted pregnancies and sexual abuse. The whole idea of sex is romanticized through media exposure.
Moreover, many studies revealed that sexual content is explicitly shown on televising in almost every show, and also the social media or research engines have sites related to pornography or nudity. The sexual content displayed on such media platforms influence the attitudes, beliefs and foremostly the knowledge of the viewers. This ultimately changes or alters the experience related to sexual feelings and opinions, as people fantasize things related to sex or intercourse. However, mostly the practicality of such beliefs is not possible humanly. Still, people apply and do dangerous stuff which is not good for health. Due to their vulnerable belief and information about things, teens suffer the most in such issues (Taylor, 2005). They are passionate about this which makes them curious and try different weird things which are not beneficial for health, in fact, are harmful to health. The influence of media is deliberately challenging the minds of teenagers, as they are negatively aspired by the things, which makes their behavior risky and unsafe. This includes the onset of sexual activities at a very early age and with several partners.
The studies have also focused on the exposure of mass media on the cognitive abilities of the adolescents, which uncovered the fatal beliefs of this age group related to sex and violence. They have very fragile thinking about sexual activities, as they perceived certain things in altered and uneven ways (Stern & Handel, 2001). The reason for this negligence is that mostly the content having sexual activities in it focuses on pleasure part more than portraying the real part of it. The whole idea of sex is romanticized through media exposure. The content shown is more glamourized, and it attracts towards the fantasy rather than reality. Sex is the basic need of humans and animals, but still, it has its consequences ethically, morally and physically as well. The children are seen indulged into such activities even before the onset of puberty. This shows the adverse effect on the mind of the children.
Conclusions
Consequently, the role of media is much impactful and influential in educating the people of many things related to society or well-being commonly. The press is an instrumental part of the lives of people in this current era of modernism in almost every field of life. However, the most adversely influenced part of the society is adolescents, due to their vulnerable and defenseless personalities. Sexually explicit and nude content is more attractive for the young and energetic people than for any other age group, regardless of their ethnicity. The sexual content shown on media boards influences the knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs of the common man foremostly. It is the collective assessment by the health and mental care professionals about the youngsters, that they are more inclined towards the explicit content than people of other age. As discussed in the above paper that beside the negative sides of this issue there are certain positive factors related to the exposure of media to sexual content. People are much aware of their sexual rights than they were before, as in teens the safe sex mind site has been incorporated due to media teaching.
