Moral development
Different factors affect moral development of adolescents including socio-economic settings, cultural background, education and education of parents. Family plays a profound role in the moral development of adolescents. This reflects parents acceptance or rejection of different acts such as lying, cheating and harming others. Family that discourage actions like lying or cheating will promote similar behavior in adolescents. Schools also play prominent role in such development. The notions of good or bad prevailing at schools also influence the moral philosophy and the behavior of the child. The relationship of the adolescent with the parents, teacher and peers impacts his moral development.
In case when student is found cheating at college strict actions must be taken. The college must give warning to student and punish him by negative marking. The teacher can discourage cheating by explaining to students how immoral it is. In this way the teacher will manage to raise inner guilt among students who attempted to cheat in test or exam. The college can also call the parents of the student and explain institute’s policy on cheating. By involving parents the college will manage to discourage such behavior.
Cheating can have many negative consequences because it encourage students to continue such behavior in future. This culture provoke other students to do the same. Cheating at college can also have long-lasting implications as it will encourage students to cheat in professional life CITATION Bes17 \l 1033 (Best). This is against their moral development and causes destruction of personality. The adolescents who develop behavior of cheating exhibits high likelihood of doing wrong in future. The institutes can play effective role in changing attitudes of students towards cheating. They can adopt strict policies like fines or shamming in front of other students.
