Childhood trauma can influence the parent-child relationship. What is some possible DSM/ICD diagnosis which could result from parent-child relationship problems based on trauma occurrence Give an example.
The parent-child relationship is a crucial relationship when it gets to the development of a child. Then when the parent and the child have a poor relationship it may lead to several problems in the childs development. According to the DSM/ICD diagnosis, these are the problems that a child might face because of the poor relationship with the parent.
Social phobia or the anxiety disorder comparison
This is a scenario where a child fears interacting with people or become uncomfortable going to places that have people to socialize with them. Since he or she has a thought that he might do something that will humiliate or embarrass him
Separation anxiety disorder comparison
This usually occurs when a child grows up fearing that he or she may end up losing someone that he is attached to. This will always occur when incase in his childhood he or she was attached to the parents then mysteriously they got separated (Ouimette, P. E., Brown, P. J. 2003 ).. This child may end up having hard times making new friends since he spends most of his time thinking about what would lead to their separation instead of the question of what they should do to make it stronger.
Conduct disorder
This may come when the child is seen to be impulsive, uncontrollable and usually have some conduct disorders. The child will be seen acting in a behavior that either violates the rights of the people surrounding him.
Oppositional disorder
This is where the child develops the character of being irrational, he becomes angry anytime, becomes defiant, becomes too argumentative and finally becomes so aggressive on situations.
Describe five different relationship patterns seen in families and give examples of how abuse can result in shifts within these different relationship patterns.
Distance relationship pattern
This is the pattern where either one parent or both parents are far from their child, in this kind of relationship lets take in the case where both parents are fare away from the child and the child is given someone else to take care of him or her. This person may mistreat the child causing pain and anguish to the child. This will intern make the child to struggle for the parents to stay with him so that his trouble could end this could make a shift of the relationship from a distance to a close relationship.
Close relationship family pattern
This is where all the family members are within a specific geographical locality and can easily interact by knowing each others wellbeing. Though in this kind of relationship there is a possibility that the parents may start abusing the child by mistreating him or her denying the child his rights punishing him (Dekovi, M., Buist, K. L. 2005, p. 489). Therefore, in case the child makes this report to the children s department, the department may end up cutting off the parents from the child taking the child away from them.
Conflictual relationship pattern
This is where both the parents and the child stay together but, the parents are always quarreling about an issue. This quarreling may be frequent that may make the child uncomfortable with the parents and therefore decided to move to a relative and stay there. Therefore, leading to a fused relationship
Cut off relationship pattern
This is where the custody of the child is given by the state or someone close to the child to take care of the childs needs. With time these may shift to a rigid relationship in that family because of the distance between them.
Enmeshed family relationship
This is a relationship where the family members become emotionally attached. Where their boundaries are very unclear. In case one family member becomes emotionally affected then it infects all of them therefore, in this kind of relationship a child may feel attached and would lead to a close family pattern.
