Behaviour and character usually vary from one person to another or from one species to another. Other behaviors might be developed by an individual while there are other behaviors that are acquired through people help (Spielberger DeNike, 1966). Similarly, there are some characters that we may learn from people and develop them therefore becoming part of as and finally, there are some behaviors that come as a result of the different kind of lifestyles that we live. In the article below I would like to discuss on how am going to change the behaviour of my younger sister who is always on the internet using any gadget or on television watching movies, series and television programs (Snelbecker, 1974).
First of all, believe that this could be a hard exercise to perfume to my sister because she is used to this kind of lifestyle since her childhood, though I know I might manage to change it. To begin with there are always a lot of chores in the house to be done, so I would advise her to start doing the chores before she starts watching anything on television or accessing the internet by this I would have used the positive reinforcement to her since she would try to finish the house chores in time so that she can watch or access the internet (Snelbecker, 1974). Secondly since am not pleased with this character I would add on ton top of the chores to have some time for studying or reading books in the house library.
I would implement the use of continuous reinforcement where, anytime I find her doing either there chores or study, I would give her enough time afterwards to go and watch the movies she likes (Jablonsk DeVries, 1972). An alternative reward that I might propose to give her is to take her to the mall to have some candy since she is great fun of candy. Therefore in my efforts to change her behaviour, anytime she does the chores or goes and studies I take her to the mall and have her favourite candy (Snelbecker, 1974). Within this, she would be gradually adapting to the system of chores or study to earn the reward for this.
I would employ the use of the fixed ratio reinforcement wherein case she maintains an example of four days having the routine of spending more time and studying. I would give her a whole daybreak to do whatever places her or do what makes her happy (Spielberger DeNike, 1966). I will also implement the use of the fixed interval reinforcement where I base it on the time intervals. This is where Id always give here breaks whenever she does either of the duties. A good example is when she has finished doing the house chose, she can relax for about two hours then proceed to study to give the brain time to relax and work properly.
There will be the use of the variable interval reinforcement where. I would be making surprise appearances and checking whether she is doing what is required or has gone back to an old habit that is trying to suppress. By doing this she will always be on her toes and will be trying to do the right thing at the right time so that she can be awarded. It will also make here to be more cautious about what she is doing to avoid being caught off guard.
In conclusion, based on these operant conditioning methods that I have discussed may help me to assist my sister acquire the desired behaviour. This is because this method will enable her to appreciate the power of the reward and would always be working to get the reward. It will also keep her on toes to what is required at a specific time. And finally, it would help her acquire the best character that would make her productive in society (Spielberger DeNike, 1966).
