Introduction
The article The Keys to Learning for University Students with Disabilities: Motivation, Emotion and Faculty-Student Relationships (2019) published by Anabel Moriña examines motivation, emotion, and social psychology. The article was published on May 22, 2019; thus, it is recent research. Moreover, it is a peer-reviewed article as it was reviewed and approved by the ethics committee of the Spanish Ministry of the Economy and Competitiveness. This article was retrieved from CSU Online Library for this analysis. The focus of the essay is on the differently able (disable) students. After doing the research the essay concludes that disable students are more motivated than their classmates and they need little motivation to perform well. The author adds that the faculty-student relationship is important for the learning processes of the students with disabilities.
The Research Methodology
The researcher used snowball sampling research methodology while doing the study. This is a unique technique that is used when it is difficult to approach the target participants directly by the researcher therefore new participants are recruited by the researcher for this job. It is called the snowball method because participants keep increasing when medians engage new participants and the chain keeps increasing. This kind of method is applied especially when the target participants are not normal citizens like they can be prostitutes, drug sellers, etc. Moriña used this method because the target of the research was to disable students. Teachers were selected and their methods of dealing with disabled students were examined.
Analysis of the Article
Moriña argues that emotions are an important factor while learning and students cannot learn better if they are not satisfied or pacified emotionally. She notes some elements that are helpful to motivate the students with a disability while learning like practical curricula that assure practical participation of students, active engagement of the teachers, and continuous assessment plus feedback. These techniques enhance the teacher-student mutual understanding that leads to a better performance of students. These methods were used by most of the teachers who were successfully dealing with disabled students in Spain.
In her article How Does Conformity Influence Behavior (2019), Kendra Cherry identifies some factors which oblige us to conform. These factors include The Difficulty of the Task, Individual Differences, The Size of the Group, and Cultural Differences (Sherif, 1936). Briefly speaking, people tend to conform when either they are impressed by someone or some group or their peaceful and pleasureful survival depends on another person or group.
Although the article is about student-teacher relationships and it discusses the techniques adopted by teachers to motivate students, but it also discusses some other areas of psychology. For example, it discusses Educational Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, and Counselling Psychology. Generally, the article finds that the faculty-student relationship is important than any other thing in the learning processes, it also argues that the teachers play the role of counselors while helping the students in making decisions and they also they apply different techniques to polish their cognitive side of mind (Bradley, & Lang, 2007). Dr. Sanchari Sinha Dutta also agrees that the Limbic System is associated with emotional behaviors, memory, and motivation. It is a collection of specified neural networking structures including cortex, hippocampal formation, amygdala, and hypothalamus.
Conclusion
Anabel Moriña's article is a comprehensive study on the relationship of Spanish teachers with their students. The study is delimited to the students of Madrid and more precisely the disabled students. The study finds that disabled students are more capable of performing well if they are motivated. The article uses the Snowball sampling methodology to do the study. Cherry argues that people conform to the culture or community which influences them. Limbic System is associated with the emotional and motivational side of mind and Moriña also analyzes this factor in the article.
