RN to APRN
As a brand new APRN (novice), I feel I need lots of practice in this field to achieve what a true APRN needs to know. I also wanted to take advantage of the fact that my work is now much more focused on primary prevention, incidentally, to what I had always liked most about my profession along with studying, articles, documents, news etc. According to Brenner,” The heart of the exertion that the novice faces is the incapability to use discretionary judgment” (Brenner,1984, p. 403). I believe to tackle with this issue, I need most of the use of in-depth knowledge of nursing and nursing skills to meet health needs. I need to contribute to advance knowledge of nursing in addition to the progress and advancement of my profession.
The advanced practice has a twofold objective: to improve access to care and the quality of patient care by reducing the workload of doctors on targeted pathologies. In addition, the advanced practice favors the diversification of the exercise of paramedical professionals and leads to the development of skills towards a high level of control. The context and idiosyncrasy of the organization and the prioritization of services influence the development of the functions of the APRN. Studies that showed an impact of the nurse's contribution, as an example of experience and advanced practice, working to provide a service in conjunction with other services, were underrepresented. According to Brenner, “Novices and advanced learners can take in little of the situation-it is too new, too bizarre."(Brenner,1984, p. 404)
Recruiting, retaining and listening to the growing demands of expert qualified nurses is a matter of concern for governments around the world. The redesign of jobs, the creation and reorganization of functions that absorb tasks and responsibilities usually developed by doctors, as well as the resolution of problems such as the high number of unscheduled hospital admissions, in addition to covering existing gaps in the provision of services, have defined and will continue to influence the work of the APRN.
