Introduction
Nursing is one of those professions that blends itself with traditions of past but the ever-changing realities of the present world in the healthcare industry cannot be denied. Nursing as a profession has been upgraded with the advancing time as technology and level of academics polishes the skills of nurses. Keeping into consideration the demands of an ever-changing and evolving healthcare system demand of Master’s prepared nurses increased. As per the American Association College of Nursing, Master's prepared nurses have a greater level of competencies and skills. Master’s prepared nurses usually have advanced learning. Master’s prepared nurses assure the better outcomes that result in improved health. Not only do Master’s prepared nurses excel in knowledge as compared to graduate nurses, but at the same time, the passion for better patient care increases as the level of the education advances in the healthcare field. Master’s prepared nurses are playing a better role in all the aspects as they are having better knowledge, more experience and a better understanding of the field in which they serve. There have been a lot of evolutions in the field of nursing over time, taking into account the difference in professional education. It is a common understanding that, more will be the education, greater would be professionalism.
A Master’s prepared nurse needs to play a significant role as compared to bachelor level nurse as BSN (Bachelor of Science in nursing) prepares one for a job as a registered nurse. On the other hand, master’s prepared nurse used to be equipped with all the necessary advanced training as well as skills that help for giving high-quality care i.e. as a nurse practitioner. Education always helps one in playing an effective role in the health field and a Master’s prepared nurse would be playing a more constructive role than the baccalaureate level nurse. Role of the MSN would be different than a doctorate level nurse. Role of MSN could be divided into two areas when it is about patient care they (MSN) play a more important role than DNP (Doctor of nursing practice). Master’s prepared nurses play an important role in leading a change in acquiring quality outcomes. These nurses also play a vital role in advancing cultural excellence through their long-life learning. Building and leading collaboration among inter-professional care teams. It won't be wrong to say that in all aspects MSN plays a more important role than BSN.
Influence of economics/ resource allocation
The USA economy has seen a downturn over several years now. This has cost a high number of people to lose their jobs and some even have had to sell their houses as they could not afford to pay the mortgage. In this extreme situation, the nursing profession has seen a rise because the nursing shortage is decreasing (Rosseter, 2019). This means Master's prepared nurses have a better chance of finding jobs as the nursing workforce is seen to be stabilizing. Even reports by the AACN suggest that in the future, Masters prepared nurses to have a more likely chance of attaining job offers right after graduation. Hospitals and nurses is more like an undeniable truth of world because there have always been a great requirement of nurses leaving behind the ties that are found in technology due to evolution.
Comparing the Baccalaureate, Masters, and Doctoral prepared nurses; it can be analyzed that these three types of nurses have very different types of role within the nursing industry. For instance, the Baccalaureate Degree in nursing is considered the minimal preparation to professionally practice nursing (Ma, et al, 2018). So in times of economic downturn, they will have a higher chance of job allocation but they lack the required experience. Masters prepared nurses, on the other hand, would be more costly but would have the desired knowledge and experience making their benefits more than their costs. Finally, Doctoral prepared nurses would ask for more salary as they are more qualified but in times of economic downturn, not every institution would be able to handle the added expense.
Impact of technology
Role of Master’s prepared nurses has been changed with changing technology. It has been witnessed that technology greatly influence the role of MSN as the field of healthcare has evolved. Taking a look at both present and future, it has been noticed that MSN is demanded to develop skills so that they could benefit their patients and field with technological advancement. Being the senior nurses, they have more responsibility to learn how to utilize new technology for acquiring the set goals. Pieces of evidence show that they are MSN are playing an important role in the medical field by acquiring expertise in obtaining useful information. Technology has greatly influenced their role as they are learning gathering necessary information by using machinery and gadget.
Master’s prepared nurses because of the experience know well how to use the technology. Technology at present is helping them for making the assigned tasks doable for them. Even the future technology would help them for performing the duties in better ways.
Role of inter-professional relationship
Relation with colleagues is one of the main things that help a person in growing and doing things in a better way. The strong influence of the inter-professional relationship cannot be denied as it has been seen the support and surrounding environment means a lot for delivering the best services to the patients. The inter-professional relationship among the healthcare staff and especially the relation of master's prepared nurse with other staff members. If one would be having encouraging co-workers and positive atmosphere at his/her. Specifically, taking a look at the role of a master prepared nurse, it could be said that being senior staff members he/she can lead other co-workers so that they could perform the assigned tasks in a most efficient way. Master's prepared nurse would be playing a more significant role as compared to the baccalaureate as they have less authority so it would be difficult for them to manage all the whole team. On the other hand, doctoral prepared nurse being the senior most medical staff members mostly don’t have much time to focus on developing the inter-professional relationship but as a whole this fact cannot be denied that healthy inter-professional relationship is an important element for letting the things go in the best direction that would ultimately benefit the patients.
Summary
Taking a look at the present time, it could be said that in healthcare, the rank of the nurse defines the roles that one has to play. Master’s prepared nurse is the one who is being responsible for taking duties in a more professional way than a baccalaureate level nurse.
