Professionalism and Social media
Response 1
Better opportunities and resources are available to acquire evidence about sicknesses and treatments with the expansion of social media and modern tools. Patients are now additionally learned, and they progressively post regarding their care on social media (Epstein & Turner, 2015). Being a professional, I think social media is a platform where patients can share and discuss their diseases to exchange care plans. Social media has enabled them to get information and evidence regarding their diseases (Machin, 2017). They can discuss in communities and individually about the pitfalls regarding their care and treatment. Social media posts such as exploiting medical care and abusing healthcare administration is unethical (Messina, 2017). Being a healthcare professional, my engagement in these posts have become an embarrassment for me. Social media posts for abusing specific healthcare facilities and individuals have become very common nowadays and I was also engaged in these posts (Epstein & Turner, 2015). This has become a tool for network and support for patients and professionals. On the other side, it is also serving a platform for abusing professionals and healthcare providers. Societies and groups are unethically and unprofessionally abusing individuals performing healthcare service (Machin, 2017). This media is progressively supporting and encouraging societies to use abusive words publicly (Messina, 2017). On one side, this media is gradually supporting healthcare procedures, technologies and development. However, the other side is very dark and embarrassing. Being a faithful professional, the harsh reality and embarrassing experience has realized me to rethink my engagement in all those unethical posts (Machin, 2017). I think it should be a platform only meant for support, encouragement, advancement, development, research, and should follow professional standards of nursing (Machin, 2017).
Response 2
Most pertinent matters in social-media platforms are reliance and confidentiality that essentially be wisely conserved. The patient-physician association can undergo and will suffer if any of the information is leaked (Machin, 2017). Keeping in view, the physicians and the patient's information on both sides needs to be preserved. As nurses are directly involved in taking private information of the patients, they are responsible to keep private information confidential. Accessibility to social media does not mean to post any private information publicly (Messina, 2017). Physicians and nurses must keep private information safe and confidential (Epstein & Turner, 2015). Discussion forums, healthcare groups, and pages on social media should be used to spread health education and to raise awareness among societies and communities (Denecke et al., 2015). Every profession demands ethics to keep private and confidential data safe and secure (Messina, 2017). Healthcare providers such as nurses and physicians should follow a code of ethics and professional standards of nursing while using social media platforms for discussion. Social media is openly available for everyone to use. This platform can play an important and significant role in providing quality care to the communities (Machin, 2017). This platform can be utilized by the nurses to raise awareness among communities and to promote health education.
Response 3
Human self-respect has recognized to be an ambiguous word in the liberal generation. Christian values are a broader term in nursing practice and it covers human dignity, respect, and ethics of freedom while delivering healthcare facilities (Epstein & Turner, 2015). Every person has equal rights and demands for freedom. Healthcare practices and social media forum needs to observe Christian values of dignity. The classic ideas of the liberal generation have created many difficulties for professionals and nurses to perform their duties (Denecke et al., 2015). Nowadays, human dignity is not considered and admired on morally immanent considerations. Social media platforms and the liberal generation are completely exploiting the ideas of Christian values of human dignity. Some certain individuals and groups are specifically predestined for abusing professionals and healthcare providers and are misusing this platform for exploiting human dignity shamefully (Machin, 2017).
These posts and groups are completely denying Christian values. The positive and progressive use of this advancement can generate a tremendous change in lifestyle. Professionals and nurses should follow a code of ethics and Christian values for human dignity. It is required to follow a code of ethics while posting anything on social media. Professionals need to engage communities on such posts that create a progressive and close relationship between healthcare professionals and patients.
