This assignment requires you to complete the following questions to demonstrate your knowledge when contributing to the nursing care of a person with complex needs.
Question1 (200 – 300 words)
Briefly discuss the difference between critical thinking, creative thinking and problem-solving. Why are they each important to your role as an enrolled nurse?
Creative thinking is described as a way of looking at problems and issues from a fresh point of view in order to envision something innovative and new while critical thinking is the ability sequential organized and disciplined process of rationalizing, assessing, analyzing and interpreting in order to make educated judgments and decisions. While problem-solving is the ability to solve the problem in difficult and challenging situations. Creative thinking is something in which attempts are made to create something new and creative while critical thinking tries to evaluate the value and also the validity of anything that is already present. Creative thinking is generative while critical thinking is something investigative, but in problem-solving, a solution is to find out to solve something that is bothering the ongoing process. Critical thinking is supposed to be convergent while creative thinking is supposed to be divergent. In the case of critical thinking, the focus is on probability while in case of creative thinking the focus is on possibilities while problem-solving is the focus of both possibilities and probabilities. Creative thinking, critical thinking and problem-solving are some of the important key factors in nursing and healthcare because on a daily basis they encounter many cases where all these factors are required. Patients come with varying problems so if the nurse would know about these three points then it will be easy for them to handle the situation wisely (Massey et al., 2017).
Question2 (150 – 200 words)
Describe a situation from your clinical placement where you identified a deterioration in a patient’s condition. Outline the actions you took and the involvement of the multi-disciplinary team in managing the identified situation.
It is quite clear in recognition of the frequency and also the bad and severe events that happen in the hospital if the nurse recognizes and also responds to the patient’s health deterioration in a timely manner then the patient’s health outcome would be quite different and better and also major events would be prevented. I once encountered a deterioration in an elder patient as a result of adverse drug reaction which is also a common problem in them. I first reported to the doctor who took care of the situation by giving some anti-allergens to the patients. In such cases, the nurse’s doctors and pharmacists are encouraged to report the adverse drug reaction to the medicine and healthcare product regulatory agency through the yellow card reporting scheme. In such situations, all the departments of healthcare must play their role to improve the patient condition (Massey et al., 2017).
