Buckeridge, David L, et al. "Effect of motor vehicle emissions on respiratory health in an urban area." Environ Health Perspect, vol. 11, no. 3, 2010, pp. 293–300.

In this study, the researchers sort to determine the relationship between emission from motor vehicles and respiratory diseases in busy urban areas. In the study conducted in Southeast Toronto, the researchers in a bid to create a successful exposure assessment used the exposure model implemented using a geographic analysis system to estimate daily exposure in the enumeration area (EA). The researchers used hospital admissions diagnostics to determine genitourinary and respiratory conditions. They assessed the impact of motor vehicle emissions in the defined enumeration area using the Poisson mixed-effect model and the distribution of variables in the area. Their findings showed that motor vehicle emissions in urban areas had a notable effect on admission rates for complications related to respiratory diseases, including Asthma, Respiratory tract infections, Pneumonia, Bronchitis, and chronic obstruction. Furthermore, the researchers found that there was no effect of exposure on hospital admissions for non-respiratory diseases.

Chanaron, Jean-Jacques and Julius Teske. "Hybrid vehicles: a temporary step." International Journal of Automotive Technology and Management, vol. 7, no. 4, 2007.

This paper explores the sustainability of hybrid technology motor vehicles in the United States. The paper focuses on whether the hybrid technology system on motor vehicles strongly accepted by US consumers is actually sustainable in the long run. The paper critically analyses variables influencing hybrid diffusion technology, including significant non-financial factors influencing buying decisions among US customers. The researchers also conducted an in-depth overview of strategies used by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and the suppliers to understand the sustainability of the materials utilized in creating the technology. The findings show that current US consumers of hybrid technology have a positive perception of the technology, and many are willing to use the technology in the future. The researchers concluded that though the hybrid technology is yet to be applied profitably, it has excellent potential in the US since most Americans have positive perceptions.

Hajderi, Asllan And Stavri Paco. "Hybrid Vehicles And Their Impact On Pollution Reduction In Urban Areas." Interdisplinary Journal of Research and Development, vol. 4, 2017.

This study conducted by Asllan Hajderi and Stavri Paco focuses on knowledge of the construction of the hybrid vehicles and their effect on reducing pollution in urban areas. The paper wanted to study component systems fitted in hybrid vehicles, which make them efficient in reducing environmental pollution in urban areas compared with vehicles running on engines. The study which measured air pollution generated by conventional vehicles and pollution caused by hybrid vehicles in popular intersection indicated that the use of 5% hybrid vehicles reduced pollution by 22%. The study concluded that hybrid technology vehicles are more effective than vehicles using engines because they not only use less fuel, but they also contribute to minimal environmental pollution. Besides, the study showed that the use of hybrid vehicles to replace conventional vehicles manufactured before 1996 provides a reduction in urban pollution by 44% in two years.

This study provides a critical analysis of the performance and cost of conventional petrol vehicles when converted into solar-electric hybrid vehicles. With ever-increasing environmental-related and fuel problems brought by conventional vehicles, the researchers wanted to understand the effectiveness of solar-electric hybrid vehicles in mitigating these problems. The study found that although solar-electric hybrid vehicles have greater efficiency in managing environmental problems, they require sophisticated electronic, mechanical, and electrical systems, which are difficult and costly to manufacture. Researchers showed that to reduce the cost of hybrid vehicles, manufacturers can convert conventional fuel-based cars into hybrid electric vehicles by installing electrical and electronic systems. The paper provides details about the installation of hybrid systems on conventional vehicles. The study concluded that the conversion of conventional cars into hybrid systems vehicles by fitting electric and electronic systems could help to save fuel costs and reduce environmental pollution significantly.

Liao, Fanchao, Eric Molin and Bert van Wee. "Consumer preferences for electric vehicles: a literature review ." Journal Transport Reviews, vol. 37, no. 3, 2017.

This paper provides a comprehensive literature review on consumer preferences of electric vehicles (EVs) to inform policymakers about the implementation of EVs and give recommendations for future research. Though the use of electric vehicles alleviates problems related to oil dependency, pollution, and global warming, its penetration is still low in spite of strong promotional policies. To determine the reasons for low penetration, researchers conducted thorough economic and psychological factors that shape consumer's preferences. The researchers also estimated consumer's financial, infrastructure, technical, and policies and how these factors influence the penetration of electric vehicles. The researchers found that the existing studies on the use of EVs have the same conclusion concerning the significance of technical, financial, and infrastructure on the penetration of EVs. The researchers concluded that consumer preferences influence the adoption of EVs, and the effectiveness of incentive policies have done little to increase customer preference.

Malmgren, Ingrid. "Quantifying the Societal Benefits of Electric Vehicles ." World Electric Vehicle Journal, vol. 8, 2016.

This study conducted by Malmgren Ingrid sought to quantify the benefits the society achieves through the introduction of electric vehicles. The paper aimed at identifying different benefits related to the use of electric vehicles over conventional vehicles. The researcher noted that even though the barrier facing penetration of electric vehicles in the society is high costs, there are many benefits that electric vehicles bring in the society that are often omitted in cost-benefit analysis. The study found that the notable benefits of electric vehicles are a reduction in environmental pollution, improved air quality and human health, and better economic growth. The researcher noted that analysis of benefits brought by electric vehicles helps the policy-makers to develop investment and incentive frameworks to increase penetration of the vehicles.

Reynolds, C and M Kandlikar. "How hybrid-electric vehicles are different from conventional vehicles: the effect of weight and power on fuel consumption." Environmental Research Letters, vol. 2, no. 1, 2007.

This paper sought to determine how weight and system power in hybrid electric vehicles affect fuel consumption in each vehicle set. With increasing hybrid electric vehicle consumption in North America, a recent generation of hybrid vehicles are heavier and more powerful and uses more fuel hence eroding the benefits of hybrid technology. The researchers revealed that the weight penalty for fuel consumption in hybrid-electric vehicles is lower than the equivalent weight in conventional fuel engines. Besides, the researchers indicated that when hybrid system vehicles are compared with conventional vehicles, the average fuel consumption benefit for the hybrid vehicles was 2.7l/100km. The researchers concluded that an increase in weight and power in the hybrid-electric vehicle increases the fuel consumption penalty.

This article published by Union of Concerned Scientists, and it provides a detailed review of facts linking vehicle emissions and global warming. The article provides information about how the vehicles, including cars and trucks in the US, contribute to one-fifth of carbon into the atmosphere. The article notes that the transportation sector in the US, including trucks, planes, ships, trains, and cars, contributes 30% of US carbon emissions. The article further indicates that oil-related emissions will continue increasing in the coming years if urgent mitigation, including regulations to use less oil, is not imposed. The article concludes by providing different solutions, including using fuel-efficient vehicles that burn less fuel and generate little emission and using cleaner fuels such as cellulosic biofuels that can reduce pollution by 80%. Besides, the article proposed the use of electric vehicles because it uses renewable energy and produces zero carbon emissions

Reflection 1: Online audience expectations

Online audience is one of the groups of people that one will interact with on a daily basis. As a speaker, whether on an online platform or not, it is important to come up with strategies that can be used to ensure that the expectations of the people are met on the online platforms. One of the things that speakers have to face on the online platforms is that they always meet people who do not speak the same language like theirs. It is something that makes it hard for the speakers to come up with a way of ensure that they meet the expectation of the audience. This book looks at what on online platforms are always looking for. There is a manner that one can use to be able to solve all the problems that the listeners have on the online platform. In this case, the boon concentrates on the things that people on the platform are always willing to get when they visit such a webpage.

The first thing that people want to meet on the webpage is the content that they need. Depending on the name of website, people can come up with ideal of what they should expect to find on the platform. The reason why there are some WebPages that receive a lot of visitors compared to the others is because they have clear information that will serve the interest of those who visit it. It is always important to come up with a way of ensuring that you have the ability to overcome most of the challenges that people have been experiencing as they try to get access to the information that they need. Not every webpage that one visits has the ability to provide them with the quality of information that they need. Some of the WebPages do not have what it takes to be called a webpage. For this case, it is important that should ensure all the information they have on the platform relates to what the webpage is all about.

The people on the platform also expect to find links to other external sites that they can use to get information that relates to the information they are searching. Sometimes, a site does not have the information that one needs and it is important that the owner of that site should come up with ways of ensuring that they have the best information that can lead the reader to another site. Apart from such links, people on the online platform also expect to find pictures that relate to the topic they want. Pictures are always appealing and if you want many people to keep visiting your site then it is important that you come up with pictures that can help you to retain them on the site. A reader will be more than willing to visit a site that has pictures that can help him or her to explain the question he or she has at hand. When creating content for the webpage you have, it is important to take the expectation of the audience into consideration as it is what determines whether they will visit the site again or not.

Reflection 2: Rhetorical analysis reflection

Rhetoric’s refer to the things that make it easy to communicate with people. There are things that one must use in case he or she wishes to have the best performance. There are many ways that one can use the rhetorical styles to be able to achieve his or her intended purpose. Many people the styles without knowing the manner in which they should use to achieve the end result. Many people have been asking why they always fail to perform like the others. Anyone that wishes to be a good performer in writing literary works should first ensure that they have the best literary styles in place.

In case you are tasked with the duty of ensuring that you carry out an analysis of the text that you have been given, the first thing that you need to do is to look at the non-verbal cues that can be used in such a case. This is common in the cases where one needs to talk to other people face to face. One has to express some of the things in the best way is by using the styles that involve non verbal cues. One of the ways that is always used by many people in the use of gestures. Gestures enable those people who do not have the ability to hear what the speaker is saying. They strain a lot of get the information that they would wish to get from the speech that one is having. Rhetorical analysis refers to the aspects that might not necessarily need answers to explain. There are certain things that other people always do that make it quite hard for them to be able to pass information that they wish to have to their audience. Having an audience that can get the things that you are saying is one of the things that make it quite hard . Also, depending on how you wish to write your paper, it is important that you come up with a way of ensuring that book you have chosen is the best.

Reflection 3: Annotated bibliography reflection

Annotated bibliography refers to a text that explains the relationship between a given topic and a literary work. Books are always reviewed in this case. There are factors that one has to put into consideration when writing an annotated bibliography. Many people have failed to write the best ones because they do not know the things they should be putting into consideration. The first one is the topics in question. Once you have a topic, the next thing that you should be doing is to come up with a way of finding the books that relate to the topic that they have been given. The topic will dictate the type of books that will be chosen. In most cases, it is important to choose those books that have been published recently. It is important that even if you find out that there are many books that relate to the topic, you have to look for one that relates to the topic directly. Not all of them will relate to the extent that you wish to have the relations. Also, depending on how you wish to write your paper, it is important that you come up with a way of ensuring that book you have chosen is the best.

Readers will always be looking for the direct relationship between the thing book that one has chosen and the manner in which it will be possible to come with content that you wish to have. One of the most common mistakes that people make when choosing the book is that they do not take time to look at the content in the book. You have to read the content so that you determine whether it will be possible to relate the topic to the book. The major thing that people wish to achieve as they come up with an annotated bibliography is showing people that the books have been cited in the paper. By just reading the annotated bibliography, it is possible to come up with information on what the paper will be about. One can easily see the fact that the book will be very important in the research. If it is an academic paper, one will easily learn the reason why the book has been used and even if it will be of any help during the research. Books that are used in this case have to be those that come from people who have been in the writing industry. Popular writer always have the first preference because they take into account things that they have seen over the year. Books used in the annotated bibliography should also show the extent to which the writer has gone ahead to include information that is of great help to the reader. Many people always want to get information from books that are from trusted publishers.

When it comes to writing the piece, it is important to write the name of the book first. You can then follow it up with the reason why you feel the book is of great help to the research. Once the reader has connected this, he will learn that the information in the book is about the topic and that he or she does not have to go ahead and read the book on their own.

Reflection 4: argumentative essay

Writing an argumentative essay is one of the most exciting pieces that one can opt to write. One of the things that make this piece quite hard for the writers is the fact that making a choice of the topic that one would opt to write about is quite hard. There are many ways that one can use to be able to come up with a way of ensuring that they choose the best topic. An argumentative essay is an essay that is written based on a topic that is up for debate. To choose a good topic, one will have to look at some of the discussions that people are having currently. It is important to take this into consideration because it ensures that you keep abreast with some of the issues that people are talking. The media is one of the places that one can visit to have access to such topics. The topic that one decides to choose will be based on the facts that other people have said or whether the fact that are out there are the same as those that writer had.

One of the things that you need to need to put into consideration is how you can come up with a thesis statement that can he or she can either support or oppose. It is through opposing or proposing the thesis that one will be able to come up with a way of ensuring that they get the content for the topic. The topic is one of the things that have to be put into consideration when coming up with the thesis statement. The thesis statement should be one that directly relates to the topic that is in question. The thesis statement should give the reader an idea of the things that they will expect to find in the essay. The essay will be the best piece that you can come up with if you have the ability to come up with points to either support or oppose the thesis statement that you have been given. You should know how to come up with good thesis statement that can attract the attention of the reader. One of the things that people always fail to achieve is the fact that readers are not easy to maintain in the essay. Many people do not know how to do this. What they should be doing is to come up with a way of listing the points they have in order of how they rank. After having a thesis statement, it is possible to list the points depending on how they rank. People fail to recognize that by listing them this way, they will be able to come up with a way of ensuring that they have the reader all through the essay. If an essay doe not attract the attention of the reader, it might not be easy to rank it as an argumentative essay that can bring out the best in the topic that one wanted to write about.

The four reflections show the different ways that English can help one to be able to communicate with other people. The online platform is always very hard for many writers because they do not know the things that the readers are always looking for. Through the reflection, one will learn the things that they need to do in case they want to have the best interaction with people on the online platforms just like any other platform.

Recent studies have shown that the presence of Latino students is significant in many of the universities in the United States. The Latino population continues to be the fastest growing ethnic-minority population in the United States (Galdeano, Flores, & Moder, 2012; Núñez, Sparks, & Hernández, 2011). It is estimated that this population will double in size by the year 2050 (Stokes-Brown, 2012). However, there are still some barriers that exist when Latino students enter the university such as lack of of information and advice in institutions that have few personnel that understand the needs of Latinos.

In the “Discourse Communities and Communities of Practice” article, Ann Johns said that “In order to introduce students to these visions of community it is useful to take them outside the academic realm to something more familiar, the recreational and avocational communities to which they, or their families belong” (500). Many latino students and even faculty and staff face challenges such as the lack of cohesion and its own space on campus so they can be free to be themselves and feel part of the community.

The importance of having a Hispanic Serving Institution is extremely important for the well-being of Latinos in order for them to achieve their goals and projects. According to Flink, “First-generation Latinos face unique cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic challenges on campus. (Flink, p. 402). This is where UCF LaFaSA comes in. A considerable amount of research has been made about Hispanic Serving Institutions but little research has been made about their results or what exactly are they doing to help the latino community.

Hispanic serving institutions in the United states play an important role in the education. However still their role is not recognized in the higher education of Hispanics. Hispanic is growing rapidly and HSIs are 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities which include about 25% or more total undergraduate. However, still they are facing a lot of challenges that how they can grow their education. They are having many opportunities but they are still finding ways that how they can utilize to their opportunities to be recognized in the higher education of Hispanics (Benitez, 1998).

UCF LaFaSA is the community of practice that I am beginning to get involved with as a latino staff member but I am not an association member yet LaFaSA is the discourse community and platform created to help latino faculty, staff and students achieved their goals, and ensure the right tools and resources are put in place to support such a significant population that is only growing in Central Florida (HANSER, n.d). This association was founded in March 2015 by Dr. Cyndia Muñiz after she noticed growth in Latino faculty and staff at UCF. Because of that, she felt it was necessary to organize Latino professionals on campus to come together and develop the strategic plan for the university and how they will move forward in the next 20 years. Prior to that, she helped students, find direction on what to do during college, and offers resources–like the career resource center and to figure out the steps after college.

I am still unclear on how all this research will keep developing based on the questions I am considering but I am hoping with the help of the annotated bibliography I will research much further around this important community of practice.

For my primary sources I will conduct an interview with the President of LaFaSA, Dr. Cyndia Muñiz, collect any materials they use to reach the families of Latino students and also take a look at their website, social media, newsletter and see how are those reaching out the latino community.

Benitez, (1998). Hispanic-serving institutions: Challenges and opportunities. New Directions for Higher Education, 102, 57-68.

This article discusses the growth of the Hispanic population and how Hispanic Serving Institutions are addressing those needs. It gives an introduction about what is exactly an Hispanic-serving institution, “is a relatively recent educational classification that is not yet uniformly defined.” (59) which is a Hispanic student enrollment of 25 percent or more. It also provides a chart of enrollments by institutions by state/location and interesting to note that Florida has 58 HSIs. One of the challenges that mention is although Hispanics are the fastest-growing minority in the United States, it states that dropout rates are higher and dropping out occurs earlier than for most other groups making it difficult to attend universities. Basically, what they are saying is that as far as challenges, it concerns “limited funding, competition with other minority-serving institutions for federal funding and a diverse student population. But the opportunities ranges from increasing access for educationally disadvantaged students, and enhanced student services.” (67)

This article helps me understand the background of Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and getting familiar with how it can address the population’s needs. Recently, UCF was designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution with an enrollment of 27.5 percent Hispanic-student meaning it can now compete for federal funding to improve the educational programs for Hispanic and low-income students (Contreras, 2008). Since the article provides Hispanic’s origins, geographical information, academic offerings, and information on funding I can relate it to the Hispanic population of UCF. This will help me when I research the geographical information for UCF Hispanic students.

Benitez, M., & DeAro, J. (2004). Realizing student success at Hispanic-serving institutions. New Directions for Community Colleges, 127, 35-48.

The main points for this article is to highlight the role of the Hispanic-Serving Institutions in promoting the academic success of minority students and discusses strategies used by several Hispanic-Serving community colleges. The article states that “Some HSIs that are showing promising results in improving student retention are aligning student support services with academic programs in order to provide effective support environments for students who juggle obligations of work, school and family” (40). It provides an example of LifeMap, a guide that was created at Valencia Community College,that helps students with their degrees and career goals. This is similar to the Pegasus Path that was recently created here at UCF. Institutions try to use all these resources for Hispanic students so they won’t feel lost and confused throughout their school years. It mentions all other approaches and projects to improve students learning at other institutions.

This was an interesting article and very helpful. Some of the questions that came up on this article were: What does it mean to be a Hispanic Serving Institution? How does an institution demonstrate its commitment to serve Hispanics? What is the definition of Latino student success? What are useful appropriate, and substantive indicators of Latino student success? (45). This is really useful when I am interviewing the President of LaFaSA, since my questions are similar and the purpose of my study is to find out what exactly is LAFaSA doing to provide effective services to UCF Hispanic community.

Flink, P. J. (2018). Latinos and Higher Education: A Literature Review. Journal of Hispanic Higher Education, 17(4), 402–414.

I will include this in my CARS Model introduction to inform of challenges/issues that Latinos face on campus. The benefit of having an Hispanic Serving Institution is extremely important for the well-being of Latinos in order for them to achieve their goals and projects. According to Flink, “First-generation Latinos face unique cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic challenges on campus. (Flink, p. 402). 

This article is helpful because I plan on introducing what are the challenges that UCF latinos face on campus.

Gutierrez, M., Castañeda, C., & Katsinas, S. G. (2002). Latino leadership in community colleges: Issues and challenges. Community College Journal of Research & Practice, 26(4) 297- 314.

On this article they study the importance of having Latino Leadership at universities. As student enrollments go up they also expect that Latino leadership will also increase. It examines the fact that although 56 percent of Latino students are beginning their higher education at community colleges, the percentage of Latino leadership is only at 3-4 percent. It discusses what can be done to expand the pool of prepared Latinos for leadership. (298). The leader, like every person, has many defects and virtues that he must know; this It means knowing yourself, then understanding others, reflecting what you want to achieve, and what it seeks to achieve with others to achieve success. This analysis will seek to improve the performance as a leader to go from the particular to the general, that is, from our performance as leaders, whether for personal benefit, up to performance in our universities. Some of the challenges and issues of lack of leadership has to do with cultural barriers , not having adequate education. It also examined the lack of Hispanic faculty members. During a survey at the Symposium of the National Community College Hispanic Council, respondents were asked: “Is it easier at your institution to hire a Hispanic faculty member than a Hispanic Administrator, and if so, why? Of those that responded, five indicated that it was more difficult to hire Latino faculty than it was to hire Latino administrators.” (309)

This article is relevant to my research because like I mentioned on my research proposal, based on previous observations that I made at LaFASa events there were a lack of Hispanic faculty members, and also a lack of leadership, board-of-members for such association. So I will most likely use this idea to come up with a chart to provide the number of Hispanic leaders and faculty.

This article talks about while Latino students are enrolling in greater numbers, Latino faculty have not seen similar growth, making up only four percent of faculty nationwide.

These contrasting images between the faculty and student demographics portend an inevitable truth that, while the higher education student population is dramatically changing, the faculty members of color still are not representative of the incoming cohort of students of color, especially the Latino student population. In this article, the author how leadership can improve the hiring and keeping of Latino faculty members in universities. Ponjuan provides ten specific policy and programmatic recommendations to improve conditions for Latino faculty members which are: Improve Latino Doctoral Student Socialization, Educate faculty search committees, Develop latino faculty learning communities, Create post-doctoral development programs, Develop policies for pre-tenure faculty doctoral supervision work, Implement Pre-Tenure faculty tenure policies, redefine pre-tenure faculty members mentoring policies, improve pre-tenure faculty work roles, Prioritize the allocation of department resources for faculty, and improve faculty department climate.

This is relevant for my research since I will also be investigating how UCF LaFASa are helping latino faculty members and based on my conversation/interview with the President of the Assocation, I would find out what are they doing or what support are they providing to the latino faculty members.

This source talks about how to include and provide a welcoming environment for the diverse latino that are growing in universities. It talks about how many institutions invest in many programs and resources that celebrate diversity and encourage students, staff and faculty to have meaningful interactions but sometimes those resources may fail to account for the infinite diversity of human experience. Here they do a study to expose the root causes of these misunderstandings among the members of the Hispanic/Latino community at a small private liberal arts university, as well as what students believe the institution can do to close the divide. They interview eight domestic and international Hispanic/Latino students in regards to the divisions between their subgroups, reasons and suggestions to bridge the gap. The results of the study inform recommendations for the creation and improvement of programs that will be effective in attracting and retaining Hispanic/Latino students from various backgrounds, as well as initiatives that include a welcoming environment.

This is very helpful for my research because I will be conducting interviews and one of my questions for the association president is: How LaFASa is engaging latino students, staff and faculty and providing them with a comfortable and welcoming environment and what resources/programs are they including so that the latino community at UCF feels like they truly belong.

It was March 1999, when four armed Serbian policemen reached her house and claimed that her husband is involved in some unlawful activities and he gives information to the Liberation Army. Antigona told them that he is not here since long, but they did not believe what she told them. One of them put the gun at her children in the kitchen, and others dragged her thirteen years old girl and took Flora at the roof and asked her to shout for help. She did the same she was screaming, but no one came to help her and then one policeman throw her from the roof.

Antigona was a victim, of Kosovan war but also severely treated by society. It was the same society where she grew up. She came from the hilly area, the Malesi, that overlaps Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro and Macedonia, a backwards and remote place that folks live by their way of life. They have a code of life and system of the law came from Middle ages. Women had no position in society, and the worst thing is that a husband can kill his wife, and it is legal. In fact, at the time of marriage, the family of the bride gives a bullet to groom that if he ever wants, he can shoot it to his wife.

Clanchy tells Antigona’s dread experience of the war and her horrific escape to London. Antigone brings her three children with her .one girl of thirteen years old and two boys. From the societal point of view, she had six abortions and marital rape as well as it was normal in her society. Due to domestic violence, she has some abortions. Antigone’s journey became prosperous due to the kindness of strangers. One man at Victoria station gave her a £20 note and put them in the taxi. He told a taxi driver to drop them to the local church.

Clanchy has done a fantastic job by discussing the issues of an immigrant from a remote area and a woman with three children. She gave the voice to refugee and narrated her story in a way that the reader feels every moment. It is a sad tale of immigrant women who not only suffering in her country but also as an immigrant when she arrived in the UK. People saw her with hate and even thought that she is a prostitute they do not like to talk with her.

Part 2. How is this book about Kate? How does her relationship as friend and employer of Antigona change Kate's perspective on feminism and inequality?

Clanchy retells her audience both of the harmony that happens between females, and of how far feminism as a philosophy, but as an organization leading the financial deal. Clanchy discussed many themes in her book. The argument presented in this book is related to immigration, reasons for migration what immigrant suffer after immigration. The character of Antigona is a refugee from Kosovo. Clanchy show different connections in her story the connection of feminism, and how ordinary people think immigrants. The inequality is pervasive, and Clanchy proved that Antigona suffered not only in her society but also in the UK.

Kate, Clanchy meets Antigona, recently arrived in the UK during 2001. After a short talk with Clanchy, she offered Antigona a job as a cleaner. It was not an easy path it took nearly five years for Antigona to tell her story to Clanchy. She explained all about her life at Kosovo. She suffered a lot in her society where the woman is no more than a servant of men property, who must serve her family and produce his kids and experience everything, even marital rapes. And men are everything even they can kill their wives without any reason and above all the family of bride allow their groom by giving him bullet that he can use any time to get rid of his wife. It was shared that they can replace one wife with another if she was not able to produce sons. Domestic violence was widespread. But Antigone rejected that code by asking divorce from her husband.

Then story of her escape and how she reached in London and at this place where Clanchy offered her a cleaning job. For Kate, a juxtaposition to the Albanian family carries with it encounters to her expectations and opinions. Giving responsibility to Antigona makes her inquiry whether it is right that low-paid immigrants should be doing cleaning and day-care for other employed females and it leads her to discover the impractical prospects that current female’s status on themselves to 'have it all' and the letdown of feminism to make a healthier gender equilibrium within personal and professional life.

When Antigona’s brother reached London, he felt ashamed and terrible when he saw she was having coffee with some men or working at people’s houses as a cleaner. Another mishap happened to her when she was titled as prostitute and people and took all her money. Antigona is continually washing and cleaning: trying badly to remove the stain of disgrace from her life. So what is Clanchy was ashamed of her behaviour with Antigona, and she only offered her a meager job just as a cleaner with a low wage .even Antigone has a family and three kids that she needs to take care of. She is also embarrassed that -to steal money from Germaine Greer's The Female Eunuch - 'a vivid woman' can only shine in the world by hiding another 'brilliant lady ' - one whose skills will not ever be appointed. Yet as Clanchy acknowledges, that there is nothing wrong to have a friend from some other culture or a woman who is doing a low salaried job, but still she is a woman and having some feelings and duties.

It is merely excellent narrating with her meeting women from two diverse cultures. Clanchy's investigation of her cleanser/caretaker/friend/nun's experience of being an unlawful immigrant in the United Kingdom is outstanding. The novel, its language, an organization, is excellent and friendly. Clancy accomplishes to carry humour to some attractive terrible situation. One female's salvation can be domination of others.

A Comparison: Two Approaches to Sustainability

Michael Pollan and Robinson Meyer, in their essays, ‘An Animal’s place’ and ‘The Oceans We Know Won’t Survive climate change’, shared some common concerns about environmental sustainability and the use of resources by humans respectively. Pollan in his essay stated that animals have their own rights as us humans do and that they deserve better treatment. However, Meyer in his essay explained the threats of climate change to our environment. He said that due to increased carbon pollution, the sea level rises, and the ocean becomes warm. Although Pollan and Meyer both shared their concern for animal welfare in their essays, Meyer focuses more on the aftereffects of climate change on our overall environment. Pollan tried to balance both the concepts of environmental sustainability along with the protection of animals in an effort to show that both of these issues are equally important.

Meyer in his essay repeatedly mentioned the importance of water for human beings. He then shifted the focus of the readers to carbon pollution, which is increasing day by day and has devastating effects on the sea level. However, Pollan, on the other hand, focused on preserving and offering the basic rights to animals. Pollan said that in order to make our environment more stable and sustainable, we must provide the animals with the basic protection they deserve. Killing and hunting of animals merely for pleasure must be avoided.

Meyer, while explaining the dangerous effects of climate, stated that “If our water-related problems are relatively easy to manage, then the problem of self-government is also easier.” (Meyer) He explained here the fact that we human beings are highly dependent on water for our survival and to ensure the proper water conditions on the planet, all we have to do is to reduce this carbon pollution. Meyer also stated that “But if carbon pollution continues rising through the middle of the century, then sea-level rise by 2100 could exceed 2 feet 9 inches. Then the job will be too big, it will be an unmanageable problem.” (Meyer) Here again, Meyer specified the importance and necessity of keeping the environment pollution free. He said that if carbon pollution is not controlled now, and continued to increase at the same rate, then it will make the environment unsustainable. Pollan in his essay said that “Half the dogs in America will receive Christmas presents this year, yet few of us pause to consider the miserable life of the pig–an animal easily as intelligent as a dog–that becomes the Christmas ham.” (Pollan) In this statement, Pollan explained the unfair treatment animals receive from human beings. Pollan tried to change our perspective of how we differentiate animals. In this case, for example, both pigs and dogs deserve the same kind of treatment. If the dog is being gifted on Christmas, then the pig deserves a gift too. At another point in his essay, he stated, “John Berger wrote an essay, ‘Why Look at Animals?’ in which he suggested that the loss of everyday contact between ourselves and animals–and specifically the loss of eye contact–has left us deeply confused about the terms of our relationship to other species.” (Pollan) Now in this statement, Pollan is referring to an essay written by John Berger, in which he explains the loss of contact between humans and animals in the last decades. He said that the main reason for the poor relationship between humans and animals today is the loss of eye-contact between the two.

Both Meyer and Pollan shared their own concerns for one common objective, which is to make the overall environment sustainable. According to Meyer, climate change takes place due to increased carbon pollution by human beings that result in the rise in ocean temperatures. This increase in temperature of the water makes it difficult for the animals underwater to survive. Also, the safety of seafood will be at risk and bacteria will become more common. The survival of people living in the Arctic, who rely on seafood, will become difficult. Similarly Pollan, in his essay, explained this sad and cruel action of humans killing and hunting animals. Here, in this case, we are doing it intentionally, and in Meyer’s case, we are indirectly putting the lives of animals to extinction.

The important thing here, which both Pollan and Meyer want us to realize is that for a healthy and stable environment, both the survival of animals as well as a clean environment are necessary. We must not compromise on either of these things. We must provide the animals fundamental rights and must take some necessary measures to control the increasing pollution to ensure that they have a safe, healthy and sustainable environment to live in.

Response to Chapter 7: Managing the Writing Process

The purpose of this chapter to be included in the book, at part of the writer is to be manipulative. He puts in front of the readers, how a piece of writing can be persuasive, manipulative, can be written for advertisement or maybe a script for propaganda. It is always about the understanding of the purpose of the writer as to what, he wants to convey. According to Andrea Lunsford, the purpose of writing is not always straight forward, not according to her everyone writes to soothe anyone’s other feelings, or to make anyone take benefit of others writing. According to her, writing is a task, which exists upper then being selfish. No one wants to write a persuasive piece of writing to please anyone else

The Explicit position.

Andrea Lunsford has highlighted some purposes of writing such as Ad purpose, Propaganda purpose, Campaign speeches, or any straight forward purposes. It appears quite broad that surely, any writer can take any of the form highlighted by the author, but the author lacks the identification of how the reader might get an understanding of what the underlying reason of any writing is. For example, unless any reading is released or published in any specific time or is being read in front of any specific audience. How can one get to know what the purpose of the writing is? In more simple words, every published work comes in front of the reader as a work for advertisement. The politicians convey their speeches to gain public attention, it benefits them. Also, the celebrated writers write to earn money, the propaganda writers write for the sake of money, and anyone who makes people amuse by writing some excerpts, takes money, So the author has not wholly conveyed the complete purposes of writings.

A response to what others have said

Considering the layouts of the writing purposes, many have written on the purpose of writings available in the literature, throughout around our existence. Everyone describes the literature in a manner, as it exists. For everyone, propaganda is propaganda, a book is a book, a poem is a poem and everyone- on its part take that responsibility of being projecting his writing. As per the literature available, in Adera Lunsford’s this work, it becomes explicitly difficult to get an analysis of what the purpose of her writing is. For the sake of authenticating this argument, one can analyse her writings where she mentions that self-projection is not everyone’s writing purpose. But what anyone adds to the literature, he or she takes the credit of that.

Appropriate background information

This chapter of Everyone’s an author, presents the understanding of mainly available literature. For example, campaign speeches, propaganda materials, mainstream advertisement contents and some randomly available literature. The writer has considered the purpose of its mainstream presence. For her, these speeches and materials are not worthier then being projected in front of some audience- but this is worth more than that. As some writers publish content for a commercial purpose, they get themselves projected and get paid too. Propagandists work similarly like this, and the advertisement has the same kind of purpose behind that. Sine “writing for a purpose” has a commercial annotation, therefore it’s almost impossible, to relate it with a purpose of self-soothing or self-pleasure.

Why the topic matters

Since technology has taken over the world. An oral communication or print literature has taken a secondary annotation. It is quite impossible to see anyone getting a note of what has been published. That is how this topic matters a lot. Andrea Lanford has tried in this chaplet to bring in the literary work in the mainstream once again by presenting some new reasons for why the published work must be loved again. But this reading has not provided with a through the view of will that is workable again? will that be worth of it, if anyone reads that published work? will that Coney, not any underlying thoughts- these are all questions that are still unanswered and that is why this topic matters.

Reasons and evidence

As discussed above, there is some specific work of literature that Andrea Lunsford has mentioned as a piece of writings for persuading readers, which mainly includes advertisement contents, propaganda speeches, and campaign speeches etc. She mentions that there are some underlying reasons for writing or for orally conveying some texts. By mentioning this, she illustrates that writing for a sole purpose of conveying some pure thoughts, or otherwise for dismantling such thoughts, that could benefit all now don’t exist. If one adopts this understanding of thoughts it becomes quite impossible to look toward every existing literature with this frame of understanding. For example, one can opine that till date, there exists much of literature that is religiously purposed, one can, therefore, not hold with this opinion, as widely in the world it holds sacred purposes.

Attention to more than one point of view

To analyses this point, one will have to consider as to why anyone reads? or at which occasions one comes across various kinds of readings? Do these readings exist as a kind of for granted? To answer these questions, one might have to look too many kinds of diverse purposes of published literature. Not anyone believes on what any politician speaks, not anyone thinks to work in a manner as is depicted in any advertisement, not anyone considers the opinion of any writer as the last words, and moreover not even everyone acts on the religious teachings. These are some point of views that must have been incorporated in this chapter, but they have not been included. As there are much more purposes of readings other than just being getting paid and disseminate false propaganda.

Conclusion

The analysis of this chapter in the Andrea Lunsford work of Everyone’s an Author reveals that she literally has opted for the right title for her work. There are many reasons to claim that. As for this chapter is concerned, it appears that this chatter is enough to authenticate the title of her this collection. She is right in saying that everyone is an author. As every one of us all has something in our minds, we prefer to convey it in exchange for some cash. No one gets himself or herself ready to open her thoughts without getting paid. This is how everyone is an author. This authorship can enable us to get money. This is what the authors do. They write, and they get paid for their work. Same is the case for the ones who write advertisements, they write their thoughts and they get paid. Same is also true for the propagandists that dismantle false or true knowledge to earn handsome amounts. The last remaining are those who dismantle religiously motivated thoughts. The earn in a more sacred and handsome way. They exist no quantification for their money, as they make people work on their words and people make them feel close to their hearts, in other words, they are the absolute writers. As they just must translate or in some cases manipulate some existing writings, and this is enough for them.

Researches have shown that the issue of drug addiction is more common among youngsters. This thing cannot be denied that addiction has become one of the hazardous diseases of the world. Effects of this addiction are never discriminatory and it has been seen that addiction of any type is not good at all, but among all the addictions, drug addiction is most damaging. According to the reports, the ration of the drug addiction has been seen drastically raised for the last few years and these reports claim that this number of drug addiction is still rising rapidly. There could be multiple reasons behind this ever increasing benumbed of drug addicts. One of the main things that must be kept in mind is that as drug addicts are getting increase likewise the solution to hand this drug addiction is getting advance. Drug addiction is the main cause of most crime especially it has become a root cause of most street crimes.

According to the researches, addiction is a brain disorder that is characterized by the compulsive engagement with certain substance despite having a negative consequence. There are also many other indirect effects that cast negative impacts of the lives of people who become drug addicts. Drug addiction has become one of the major social issues that are ruining lives of uncountable youngsters who are getting more attracted towards this addiction.

So as a whole, it could be concluded that drug addiction is getting an increase in the world as it has strong appealing power and most of the people especially youth cannot resist it. Drug addiction cast hazardous effects on the overall life of the individual as this addiction disturbs social, physical and psychological health of people. Keeping in view, all the facts and figures in consideration, more treatment are being offered by the medical and psychological experts; so that more people could be saved from drug addiction. Counseling is another important thing that could save people who are at the very initial stage of drug addiction. Self-determination is the most important thing that is needed for coping this type of situation. Drug addiction has become a dilemma in the present time, taking into account that there are a number of people who are using drugs, referring to different purposes. Although there are a number of positive impacts and aspects associated with drug but its addiction is the most devastating thing because it drags an individual to death and abnormalities.

Compare and Contrast Essay

Poems carry different meanings and through the use of poetic devices, various symbolic elements are added into the verses. This essay revolves around the comparison and contrast of two poems, Temptation by Nina Cassian and The Journey by Mary Oliver. The subject matter of both poems is human. There are multiple similarities and differences between these two poems.

In Temptation, Cassian speaks highly of her desire to dream big and achieve the unachievable, however, she is restricted by the societal norms. She evokes an emotive response from the reader by questioning them about their dreams and if they are pursuing them or not. Likewise, the central idea of this poem revolves around the idea of working to the fullest if one wants to change his circumstances. She uses the symbol of “pores” to symbolize the conscience and cognitive abilities of man, “that for the first time you'll feel your pores opening” (Cassian line 2). She further proclaims that if a man listens to the society, he is far from listening to his inner voice and get inspired by it. Since the inner voice is fearless and is build around the full potential of every human being. She uses the simile of “fish mouth” to extend her idea of listening to the inner voice and proclaims that just like a fish uses her mouth to absorb food, a person should also trust his self. Similarly, in her poem, The Journey, Oliver states that one has to move forward from the bad experiences to the future possibilities in life. Likewise, she emphasizes the need for understanding the self-journeying of every individual to find the meaning of life. For instance, these verses point to the message of her poem “One day you finally knew/ what you had to do, and began, / though the voices around you” (Oliver lines 1-3). Besides, according to her, one has to be content with his present circumstances and not cry over the unattainable things. Quite similarly, both the poems urge individualistic efforts over following the societal norms.

Likewise, both the poems negate the idea of succumbing oneself to the societal norms since no one has ever found true bliss and a sense of achievement while listening to the group. In this scenario, one suffers through the loss of his individual voice and he cannot bring revolution in society. Besides, people who follow rules and collective ideas can never stand out from the crowd because of their innate fears. In The Journey, Oliver describes this practice as “Mend my life!”/ each voice cried” (Oliver lines 10-11) and Cassian puts the same thoughts in her poem as “For the first time/ you'll be aware of gravity” (Cassian lines 6-7).

Both the poems do not follow any rhyme scene and are written in free verse, this further amplifies the central idea of the poem. In the same manner, the recurrent use of the first pronoun "I” and the second pronoun "you" clearly indicate that these poems are directly addressing the reader and there is no third person influence involved. The message is reaching directly to the masses and inspiring them at an individual level. For example, these verses from The Journey signify the above observation “You knew what you had to do” (Oliver line 13). Similarly, in Temptation, the poet says “Call yourself alive? Look, I promise you” (Cassian line 1).

Both the poems are focused around similar central ideas and thoughts, however, there is a dissimilarity as well. The Journey discusses past events and set them as a motivation for individuals to work harder in their present and future times “But you didn’t stop / You knew what you had to do” (Oliver lines 12-13). On the other hand, Temptation motivates the readers o take their one first step, which will lead them towards liberation “like a thorn in your heel / and your shoulder blades will ache for want of wings” (Cassian lines 8-9).

Last but not least, poems carry a distinct tone that can enhance the prose ideas and turn them into poetic verses to inspire the reads from all over the world. Poetry is the impulsive runoff, of strong emotive powers that motivate both the writer and the reader at the same levels. Both of them reflect upon life through these shared experiences and musings about life.

The Opioid Crisis in America

In an interview with The Courier-Journal, Ms. Walden recalled the incident of the death of her son, T.J. She told that he had become addicted to OxyContin, a painkiller prescribed to him after an accident at the age of eleven. He was unable to shake off its addiction which ultimately resulted in his death at a very young age of twenty-one. After the incident, Ms. Walden formed a union called Fed Up, which holds the major drug companies for the death of over forty thousand people CITATION Ann19 \l 1033 (Report). There has been use of murky tactics from the drug companies as they tried to prevent the trials in Ohio by paying compensation, still, there are around three thousand unresolved lawsuits that are estimated to cost around fifty billion dollars in settlement to these companies. Ms. Walden says in her interview that the aforementioned compensation is not her goal. She equates the above situation as murders and simply wants justice for her son and forty thousand others. The question here is simple and yet difficult at the same time. Is this Ms. Walden's vendetta or should drug-making factories and their distributors be prosecuted for their role as (sort of) legalized commercial drug peddlers?

Needless to say, this is an argument that is based on the perception of the thinker in question. There is a division among the public regarding the issue. Many thinks that the it is likely that the drug companies are misguided to the aftereffects of the drug they sell as medicine for curing disease and pain. At least that is the view of Charles Fain Lehman of National Review thinks. Furthermore, the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) blames the imported medicines that are smuggled from China via Mexico, containing illegal drugs like fentanyl and heroin. This is no doubt a reaction to the sudden hike in prices of US-manufactured opioids as medicine in US is already too expensive for an ordinary citizen to afford without any subscription to any sort of medical insurance policy.

Nevertheless, many like Barry Meier, are still of the opinion that this problem requires some strict judicial action rather than a bunch of out-of-court settlements. In his article in The Times, Mr. Meier writes that instead of taking money, the government should strictly prosecute the drug companies so that they would turn their activities in great detail. Many are also of the opinion that the pharmaceuticals giants should criminal cases instead of civil ones, including Senator Kamala Harris, a senator belonging to the democratic party. She even went a step further and declared these companies as "high-level dope dealers". This view aligns with the views of Anne Case, a 2015 Nobel prize winner and a professor at Princeton University. She equates drugs to loaded guns that are handed over to the people in a "suicide ward" which has made the situation worse in the first place. It is somewhat true, as the maker of Oxytocin known as Purdue Pharma has made so much money of the drug that even if they pay billions of dollars nothing will happen to their coffers. They will still walk off the crisis as billionaires.

Another columnist Ross Douthat takes a gloomier view of the current situation, equating the crisis to a recent rise in suicide cases, and alcohol abuse in recent years. He thinks that his epidemic has roots in the current meaninglessness that the average American is experiencing. He thinks that people are influenced by neo-pagans that push depressed people into substance and drug abuse in lieu of certain abnormal religious practices.

Marriage is the union between two people that share their lifetime and everything with each other. The idea of marriage sounds perfect until the main conflict arises that is same-sex marriage. Typically, it is a general perception that marriage is a union of a male and female, and therefore, the concept of same-sex marriage seems slight inappropriate. However, love is not defined by gender and is dependent upon a person own preference (Lenz 42). In the US, every individual has the right of freedom to choose whatever they like, whether it is education or career or, for that matter, their life partner. Being gay is a stigma; therefore, gay-marriage has become a taboo. Many well-educated people who know the constitution of the US allow are also against gay marriage. Gay people are discriminated because of their gender, and due to the stereotypical thinking of society they are not even able to choose their partners. Due to the constant discrimination faced by gay people, the government of the US intervened and passed a bill on 26 June 2015, according to which a fundamental right to get married is guaranteed to same-sex couples as well by the fourteen amendments. This law made things easier for the LGBTQ community as they can now be married legally. However, this law sparked another controversy that divides the people into two groups.

While discussing same-sex marriages, there are typically two fundamental issues that need to be considered. The first issue is our moral values, and the other is religion. The topic of gay marriage has become an ethical dilemma that is very complex to resolve. According to the teachings of Christianity, Islam, and Jews, the concept of same-sex marriage is disregarded and is prohibited. In all these religions, the idea of gay marriage is considered a sin that will never be forgiven (Perales 120). Due to this reason, the followers of these religions will definitely won't accept the same-sex marriage bill and therefore demands a ban on same-sex marriage. In contrast, moral values teach us to respect the privacy and choice of every person rather than bashing people just because of their marriage preferences.

 According to the first amendment in the constitution “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”. Due to this law, the idea of banning gay-marriage is considered as a violation of the law. With the aid of fourteen amendments, gay- marriage is legalized in the US, yet still, gay people have to face pass through several legal barriers. In many states of the US, the gay-marriage is still not recognized in the records. Additionally, if after getting gay people wanted to start a family by adopting a child, they are not permitted by the state to adopt a child (Gates 70). Furthermore, even in many states, if they are allowed to adopt a child, they are often refused by the adoption agencies based on several lame reasons. Another problem faced by many gay people is that they cannot avail of their right to divorce if they are residing in a state where their marriage is not recognized. Thus, despite the law, gay-people have to struggle a lot to get their constitutional rights.

Several studies and surveys have highlighted that the US population is becoming more and more liberal regarding issues like gay-marriages and their fundamental rights (Lee 2). Not only in the US, but many other countries in the world have lifted the ban on gay marriages. However, still, there is a need to properly implement the laws and modify old laws to incorporate the needs of gay people.

The Joy in Swings: There are many things, which makes anyone excited. The Swings in the Wonderland of Disney has also mesmerized many. The excitement that comes when anyone is in the swing is ever lasing. Why this excitement is that much worthy? The reason for this is that in most cases the Disney Swings are the first that has given the experience of free fall to many people. This feeling is altogether different because it gives a feeling of fear and joy together. It makes one think for a while that what if I can lose everything here. Such moments are actually the joy. They make one more exciting in the time after that. For example, a sudden feeling of that swing can make the whole day of anyone.

The Siblings duo: No one has ever enjoyed the moments in the Disney, without the siblings. This shows that how much siblings are worthy in life. The sibling's goals are met where they have the best environment to spend time together. The Disney Land provides that environment to many siblings who have been here together. Introduction

50 years ago on 20th of July, the entire world halted for a momentary instant to witness the astounding accomplishment of humanity, the very first time when humans successfully set their foot on a new body of our solar system. This mission was named as Apollo 11 which was the first mission of humans to land on the surface of the moon. This research essay is about the Apollo 11 mission that took place in July 1969 and its impact on the world. I will further discuss how through the Apollo 11 mission, America beat the Soviet Union in the space race that started with Russias launch of the worlds first satellite, Sputnik. This mission restored confidence in the USAs scientific and military technology.

Background

The first time any human imprinted footprints on another planetary body were on the 20th of July, 1969. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first humans who ever landed on the surface of the moon. They also took samples from its surface on their way back to Earth. Apollo 11 successfully accomplished its primary mission with these two astronauts. Spacecraft of Apollo 11 was launched at 133200 UT from Cape Kennedy on the 16th of July 1969. The S-IVB engine of Apollo 11 was ignited again after 2 hours and 33 minutes in the orbit of Earth, to accelerate spacecraft to overcome the gravity of Earth and make an escape from its downward pull. After entering in the lunar orbit, photographs were taken which delivered extensive views for the research of lunar geology.

After landing on the moon, as a contingency measure, Aldrin and Armstrong immediately set the lunar module (LM) for the liftoff. The U.S. Senate and House established a committee only 1 month after the Johnson hearings, to see if a civilian space organization needs to be established. The organization later came to be known as NASA. Later in 1961, Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin of the Soviet Union became the first ever man to conquer the space. It increased the pressure on the United States of America to speed up in research and technology. As it was a sign which showed the strength of the military of the Soviet Union. It was the aim of NASA and the United States of America to do more than just sending their astronauts to space. After a lot of struggles of researchers, scientists and government, the mission of Apollo 11 were set, eight years later after Russia successfully conquered the space. No man has ever been on any other planetary body, efforts of United States of America and NASA together made it possible to send first ever humans in history to set their feet on the moon. While the plan of its voyage was out, it has been noticed that a lot the entire world was passionate about this mission and curious to see its success.
