Short reading response
Enlightenment, I perceive is a state which requires more than one person. It is about how one start adapting to new situations. Kant’s idea of enlightenment had been perceived differently by many of his followers. Kant’s call Enlightenment as “self- incurred education ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"prbSfHBL","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(Kant)","plainCitation":"(Kant)","noteIndex":0},"citationItems":[{"id":1637,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/local/s8f0QVnP/items/PSWJNRDE"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/local/s8f0QVnP/items/PSWJNRDE"],"itemData":{"id":1637,"type":"book","title":"Immanuel Kant's critique of pure reason","publisher":"Read Books Ltd","source":"Google Scholar","author":[{"family":"Kant","given":"Immanuel"}],"issued":{"date-parts":[["2013"]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (Kant)". He believed that the only way a man can get rid of bad things surrounded by him is the enlightenment of his mind. This enlightenment of one’s thoughts and the acceptance of new realities considerably transform the personality of any individual. Kant has always urged his followers to rip apart the guardianship of any intellectual. Not just he called for dissuading from the intellectual realm one lives in but has described the necessary actions to achieve these. Kant has condemned laziness and believes that it has hindered in the intellectual development of every individual. Kant argues that the only barrier between the individual and one's acceptance of new thoughts is his laziness. He places cowardice in the second position. For him, cowardice strengthens laziness and further pulls apart the desire of enlightenment. Pillared upon these two aspects is the monopoly of knowledge. This is where acquiring knowledge comes at a halt.
I argue that this is not the world Kant imagined. During the times of Kant, undoubtedly knowledge was evenly distributed. Knowledge had the monopoly of some enlightened mind. This time is much different from the times Kant reflected. The reason for this differentiation is the absence of knowledge barriers. This is the time where resources and knowledge are evenly distributed and each desirous mind has access to it. I believe in Kant’s distinction between the public and private form of reason and exercising. I think this distinction between the public and private form of knowledge helps us in differentiating our image individually and as part of society. This acceptance of our image helps us in agreeing and disagreeing with Kant. After analyzing my image in definitions of Kant, I agree with Kant on many points. My agreement with him is systematic. It comes out from accepting the effects of laziness and how it impacts on the overall life of an individual. His pattern of laziness, cowardice and the monopoly of knowledge is still possible even when everyone has access to knowledge. This is possible because still, it is upon each to accept a role which suits him or her.
Kant argues that reasoning demand that one should be moral. Morality then demotivates self- interested inclinations. He argues that this is the reason rational person conform to moral laws. He has called this a reason through general maxim. His account of reasoning is valid. He holds this opinion for reason that the society he lived in was based on justification of actions. I disagree with this idea of him. For example, the time we are going through, no one can justify his or her actions at this point. Kant's view about the educational and enlightening process is that they are continuous. It is where many of his followers have no justification to deny his point of view. This point of him has even become more practicable in these times. We still witness that from the time of our birth till the end of our life. This process of acquiring knowledge remains continuous and uninterrupted. This is why laziness and cowardice gradually make their place. Kant’s view about worthwhile knowledge is that the mind plays an important role in making the features of experience. Kant’s assumption about acquiring knowledge is where I agree. I cannot think of any reason which might disapprove his ideas about acquiring knowledge.
