Police Brutality
Introduction
Police Brutality is one of the major threats to the life of people who are living in America. The stance with which American police is practicing its power has become a point of criticism. Many of the people think that police brutality is not something new, it is a learned behavior. Police brutality is defined as an unwanted and excessive usually illegal use of force against civilians by the United States police officers. There are different forms of police brutality, taking into account that it ranges from assault and beating to torture mayhem and in many cases murder. Police brutality has also taken the shape of intimidation, harassment, and verbal abuse accompanied by many other forms of mistreatment. The point of exegetical thinking is, all the races in America, ethnicities, genders, and classes are a subject to police brutality. In early time, police brutality was confined to certain races but it been many years that the working class of America is experiencing frustration over the discriminatory policing in northern cities. It is significant to note that the victimization of White people excludes African Americans from the list of those who were a subject to police brutality. (Lacoe, et, al. 2018). Police brutality is more like a calamity that is distorting the roots of a happy and progressing American society, although it cannot be stopped, however steps for mitigation can be incorporated.
Discussion
It has been ten years that America is facing the problem of police brutality. It was 1991 when the police of Los Angeles was videotaped when they were treating a Black man with great brutality. It is interesting to note that the stance of brutality is not only confined to males only, but female cops are never reluctant to use power and force, side by side, they are not as likely to get themselves involved as the male cops. Considering, police brutality as an issue that is threatening lives of people, and adhering to a large number of people who are doomed to death without any adequate purpose behind, it is significant to introduce certain solutions. It is affirmative that there is no way out the can eradicate police brutality from its roots however approaches can be used that can reduce the effect of this aggression.
Radically diverse America's Police Department
One of the underlying bases of police brutality can be localized by the analysis that culturally and racially diverse people are a major victim of police brutality. In order to mitigate the stance of brutality on radically diverse people, the government should try to formulate lawmaking bodies that are radically diverse. It would be most appropriate approach that can strengthen equality because it is the staunch belief of racial monopoly that paves the way for brutal conduct. (Lacoe, et, al. 2018).
Training over hegemony
The utilization of power is highly dependent on the training imparted and mindset that is built. In order to impart human conduct, cops should be trained rather than made to hegemonized. It is significant to note that implication of adequate training will allow cops to make use of power in a suitable way. Research has highlighted that cops are more towards shedding aggression rather than taking time to hear what other person wants to communicate. Empowering training will allow cops to adhere to set rules and make adequate use of power that will be used to bring reforms rather than deform society. (Lacoe, et, al. 2018).
Accountability
Accountability is defined as a stance of check and balance. Usually, power is ensured where, there is a lack of accountability. It is significant to note that the essence of independent working has made cops to make excessive use of brutality. Accountability of these cops will keep a check and balance on the activities of the cops highlighting that each cops should be answerable for its action. It will create a fear of being suspended or fired thus ensuring adherence to formal conduct. (Brown, et, al. 2019).
Education
According to PEW research, it is highlighted that the education criteria of cops should be upgraded to four years. There are several positive outcomes that are associated with it, taking into account that cops will have an increased time span to practice things, learn laws and mold themselves in terms of their jobs. It is asserted that knowledge is treated as a major tool that could incorporate adequacy and official conduct. It is significant to note that copses would be much resilient towards their job because they will spend a considerable time achieving the certificate of practice. (Brown, et, al. 2019).
Policing for profiting
Change of perspective plays a major role in reshaping and moulding the stance of policing. The shifting of perspective from profiting to reforming will made the cops incorporate their best so that they can bring out positive results. In accordance with PEW analysis it is asserted that many of the cops practice policing for profit. if this perspective is molded into a national idea that could highlight public interest over personal interest, there would be different timeline of America. Although constitutional reforms are brought into practice that consider policing for profit illegal still there is a dire need of actions that could bring this law into practice. (Lacoe, et, al. 2018).
Inclusion of women
It is asserted, “If you want to practice physical performance in the form of police officer’s job then hire bulked up men, but if you want to infer negotiations and communication skills along with a demonstrated ability to de-escalate a situation than you need to hire a lot of women". In case of police brutality, there is no outcome to physical power because it is not the agenda that government wants to be practiced in terms of social reformation. In order to incorporate real negotiation and address rules and regulation, more women should be hired, because it is the only way that can incorporate nation of violence. (Brown, et, al. 2019).
Racial Testing
Racial testing is one of the strategies that could allow accountability organization to analyze the perception of cops. There are many police officers who are actually racist and they cannot bear any non-racial representation before them. The inclusion of racial testing will be a major tool that can help to testify and validate the stance of better recruitment. It is significant to note that racial testing is more like a peer assessment that can help to knock out undeserving cops or those duty holders who are an actual threat to the timeline of the country. (Lacoe, et, al. 2018).
Adherence to “dutybound”
“Sense of responsibility" is one of the major attributes that can position a representative over layman. It is significant to note that cops should be well aware of what is required of them. It is important to note that a cop should not only be well instructed to practice legal affairs but keep a check on fellow cops and report if there is any racist and critical cop who wants to manipulate and hegemonies a particular rational essence. The essence of “Dutybound" is a timeline that can act as a mentored analysis of the fellow men, asserting, it is one of the basic approaches to impart reforms and mitigate police brutality. (Brown, et, al. 2019).
Unleashing full power of body cameras
Body cameras play a major role in the analysis of police brutality. It is significant to note that cameras can play a major role in the determining the stance of brutality. Full power of body cameras will allow the accountability organizations to take radical steps and keep a high-quality check on the actions of cops. Although the technique of body cameras is already in use, still minor modification can lead to better results, stressing that it is a stance that can lead America to live without power abuse. (Lacoe, et, al. 2018).
Underrepresented
Police Departments in the United States are willing to bring a substantial shift in the attitude of police, taking into account that gender ratios can act as a source to mitigate police brutality. It is asserted that underrepresentation is not only associated to women but also to the other people who are culturally or ethical different affirming that different colors working under same agenda will impart a feeling of safety for people, side by side there would be a racial harmony that can eradicate brutality. According to PEW surevy, it has been highlighted that overcoming selection constraints will act as a major tool to undergo an indepth analysis of extremist perception towards public. (Lacoe, et, al. 2018).
Conclusion
In accordance with above information, it can be asserted that police brutality is not a dilemma, in fact; it is a stance that can be overcome by incorporating certain strategies having a universal point of view. In accordance with the PEW survey, literature reviews and analysis of public view, it can be asserted that implication of certain strategies can restore the safety of public by creating a homogenous environment where people can feel safe after seeing a cop rather than look for a place where they can hide. Eradication of brutality is more like a peace agreement because it will bring peace and harmony, side by side it will impart the real crux of public safety.
