Scholarship Essay
I am a firm believer of the fact that student life is a great time to learn and experiment new things. A student must make most of this time to enhance his learning, knowledge and practical experiences that are vital for success throughout their life. During my course of study, I took benefit of all the opportunities that came my way; these include many curricular and extracurricular activities. A famous quote from Arthur Ashe, “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can” has always been my inspiration. I served as a president in a volunteering group that focuses on providing an educational platform to underprivileged children’s in Papua New Guinea. During this role, I developed many leadership skills such as effective communication and delegation. In addition, I had to motivate my team, and I was able to achieve team goals using my leadership skills. I was able to collect around $5000/ year. Under that program, I am still funding about seven children. I believe that education is the right of everybody and it is the key to the development of every human and I am willing to contribute to others life through my education. I am always giving priority to girl's empowerment because it does matter.
During my studies, I was involved in many campus based activities and different community services to assist others. I believe the benefit of education is when one uses it for the good of others. I used my learning and knowledge to help others by participating in different community-based programs. I volunteered for the program aimed at providing education to underprivileged children’s in Papua New Guinea. During these activities, I had to face several challenges; however, I was able to accomplish my goal of helping children in getting an education. I realized that it is not very easy to make this world a better place for others.
Competence, conscience, and compassion. At many points of time, I had to learn new capabilities, and I had to proactive Jesuit values such as integrity, morality, sympathy, and empathy to make the educational program better beneficial for the students. We created programs for the students in which they all must strive for excellence. The purpose was not only to teach their minds concepts but how to practice ethics and morals and use abilities gifted by God at their best. We had to go out of the way to solve their issues, and the educational program had equal respect for all.
Life is very unpredictable; it is not always exactly how we expect. My life is an example of a roller coaster journey. A recent earthquake destroyed everything we had in Papua New Guinea. My family is also unable to assist monetarily in this situation. I explored various options to obtain finances to peruse my education including student loans, but higher rates of interests on student loans discouraged me a lot. It seemed like it's impossible to peruse my degree. The only hope I had, in this case, is to obtain a scholarship. Scholarship is the only way to reduce the burden of finances, and I would be able to continue my education with peace of mind. In case I am unable to obtain the scholarship. I would have to get a transfer. My capabilities and passion for taking higher education to make this world actually a better place, are the reasons I deserve this scholarship. I will not only be able to peruse my degree and educational goals, but it will also help me achieve my life goal of contributing to others living with my education and skills.
