Reality vs. Fantasy
Introduction:
I have lost the person whom I considered my soul mate. The experience taught me about two important components of life that are reality and fantasy. As in "A Farewell to Arms", love perished between Catherine and his fiancé due to the war (Douglas Fisher, Gay Ivey, 2007). Life is unpredictable. Often we see things easy for us however, we cannot get it whereas some unexpected things become part of our lives.
Discussion:
The friendship between John and I turned into feelings of love. It was sudden and unexpected. Feelings of love with my neighbor whose family had not a good relationship with mine. The first thought with that family could be the feeling of ignorance or irritation but not of love. However, reality taught me we cannot always get what we fantasized about, as Catherine in “A Farewell to Arms” suddenly lost her fiancé. The experience taught me that some feelings are uncontrollable by humans which make their space in the heart without telling the brain.
Love life with John developed the world of fantasy around me. Thoughts of the future about pleasant life with him changed my world. However, the reality is often different from the fantasy. We had to separate due to the pressure from our parents. Who says war happened on the ground, it happens everywhere between the people, between the decisions, and between love and hate. In my life war won by the hate and love was lost. Reality spoke loudly and fantasy faded behind this reality.
Conclusion:
The experience of my life shows the connection with "A Farewell to Arms". Limitless love of Catherine for her fiancé buries by violence, murder, and war. She must have thought of her pleasant future with her fiancé but reality turned to be opposite to her fantasy. Similarly, all my fantasies and promises for a happy life with John never became a reality. It taught me that there is a war happening in everyone's life between reality and fantasy where reality always wins.
