Informative Speech Reaction Paper
My topic of the speech was Combat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, I tried my best to be well prepared for this speech, and therefore I mentioned a brief introduction to the commonly prevailing psychological disorder which is generally related to soldiers and people at war zone. I tried summing up the whole topic in a short informative speech, starting form causes ending on the possible treatments, without getting audience bored at the irrelevantly long discussion. I also included important information by the perspective of famous scholars as an authentic source. Due to well-preparedness, it depicted my mastery on the subject as I explored the various aspects of this disease quiet confidently.
Nonetheless, the delivery style of my speech was simple yet assertive; because I was not giving an emotional speech it was an informative type of speech which needed a simple but focused style of delivery. The appropriateness of delivery is related to the grip on the material, thus I was well-prepared and I knew where to switch the interest of my audience by adding to a new piece of information regarding the topic. My audiences were, teachers, students and higher faculty of my department, therefore they needed a decent approach to the speech and I delivered it well. However, while introducing my topic I took an indirect approach to define the combat PTSD.
Before beginning the speech, I was a bit overenthusiastic about the providence of speaking event in front of my beloved and respectable teachers, but once I got to the podium it gave me enough confidence so that I was able to look into the eyes of the people and deliver my speech with proper eye contact. Before starting my speech I addressed while looking straight into the audience after I started I took a few seconds to adjust my speech flow and eye contact with the audience. So, after this time it was easy to keep the flow by looking at the points at the same time while focusing the spectators.
I usually don't use many gestures while talking, but the delivery of a speech needs to be well performed through gestures and symbols. Since a person is portraying the topic not just by words but also by the actions which should be appealing for the audience. As I was just standing behind the dice, I was able to show my hands not legs, so I used my gestures through hands to gain back the drifting focus of the audience if there was any, and keep them interested in the speech overall. I had an upright proper straight posture of standing, it was neither to strictly formal nor very informal. So I stood with my hands above the dice with a little titled shoulder and I often shifted that tilt to another side of the shoulder to face that side of the hall.
The facial expression has not much use while delivery an informative speech, therefore the excess amount of pressure or aggressive delivery, that of argumentative or humorous speeches need, is not required in this type of speech. Thus, I gave my speech with a mild tone and facial gestures, but they were quite assertive not too mild, not too aggressive, but intriguing. I kept my facial expressions according to the subject and it didn't require a chatty happy face, so I decently or graciously portrayed my outward expressions.
Lastly, the auditorium was not so big, so my paper delivery needed to be in a warm and light tone. I had mike which delivered my voice to the end of the hall, and I portrayed a variety of vocal tones because one variety bores the audience and they feel sleepy. So I turned my pitch a slightly higher at some points while lowering it at the other. The disfluencies may occur regarding many speeches, but I tried to regain my control right away without people noticing much.
