Gaming a steep hill leading to an addiction
Student name
University
Gaming has become one of the most entertaining activities over the past few years. People are becoming more and more indulged in computer games and keeping this situation in mind, it wont be wrong to say that excess of anything is bad. Computer game seems to be a fun activity that makes one relaxed but the way people are spending hours playing computer games, this fun activity is turning into addiction. According to the experts, people are becoming addicted to gaming and it is a threatening condition as serve form of addiction has now changed into a disorder called gaming disorder. Though computer games are blamed for various reasons and one of these is violence and lack of interest in other activities. Another obvious claim against these games is that an alteration occurs in the structural and functional system of brain that affects behavior. Computer games are altering users lifestyle i.e. students are spending hours playing computer games and find it hard to focus on their study.
Studies show that people like to spend time on online games rather than communicating with person sitting next to them (Gaming disorder, 2019). Computer game addiction is inculcating in users significant impairment in personal, social, family, occupational, educational and many other areas. One of the drastic impacts of computer game addiction is that students who spend more time in computer games earn low grades. Academic records are being negatively impacted since computer games become accessible to all (Wlfling et al, 2019). Experts believe that more time students would spend in computer games the poorer would be their academic performance.
People spend hours playing games as they find thrill, excitement, and a sense of having control over others in computer games. It is quite understandable that people become addicted to the things that take them away from reality and let them lost in a fantasy world where they would feel all-controlling. Today, there is a great variety of computer games and people are being given choice to choose a game that appeals to them the most. Logically, only those things seem appealing, one wants to spend time in and computer games are grabbing attention of people of all ages. According to research 64 population of the US are gamers that point towards severe computer game addiction.
One of the main things that must be kept in mind is, it is not the user, but the technology companies that are targeting people psychologically. Computer games are designed deliberately in a way that would trick the user psychological so that they would spend hours on it. Gaming has become an addiction as it provides people a way of escaping reality and get absorb in the world where they feel that themselves as savior, hero or captain (Rae, 2019). Computer game addiction becomes even obvious when people start thinking of games even when they are not playing. For example, people thinks of game usually when they cannot play and even make strategies to reach the next levels of the game in their spare time. People who become addict to computer games, start having problems at school, work or home, etc. Obvious evidence that people are becoming computer game addicts is that they play games to ease bad moods and want to spend more and more time playing games for cheering them up.
So as a whole, keeping the above details in mind, it could be said that things when used more than a certain limit becomes dangerous one way or the other. Psychologically people are hunted by games and made addicted so that they could spend hours on computer games as they are provided with multiple game options. Low academic grades also point toward game addiction. This fact cannot be denied that game addiction is even spoiling official life as even at work people spend hours playing computer games at the computer rather them focusing on work. Keeping the gaming disorder in view, more attention is being paid towards the development of treatment programs by medical experts for dealing people who are having gaming disorder symptoms. It wont be wrong to say that gaming is a steep hill that leads to an addiction.
