Socialization is a constant learning process that facilitates the development of an individual while also cultivating a sense of belonging. The term agent of socialization refers to people or groups that influence our attitudes, behavior, and perspective regarding life (Henslin, 2019). These agents help an individual to learn about social expectations and ways to interact with peers. Agents of socialization are classified as family, peers, school, books and mass media (Prot & Brown, 2015). All these factors greatly influence one’s life however comparing high school and college experiences these factors impact one’s life differently. Although high school and college are both educational institutes yet the environment of both is completely different.
Although, after birth, our first interaction occurs with our family and they play a huge role in shaping our lives yet as we grow peer interaction also impacts the way we perceive things (Anastasiu, 2011).From my personal experience, I think that my peers from high school and college had a great impact on me. In high school, my peers were the ones due to which I came to know about social media. They also influence my fashion sense as well as my music choice. In contrast, my peers in college are more mature and made me realize the importance of maintaining a balance between academics and sports. They always motivate me to focus more on my academics rather than wasting time on social media sites.
