The idea of unity is to join forces and work together on a smaller level or in a community at larger levels. Everyone faces multiple challenges in life and try to find solutions themselves. However, when many people join in and extend a helping hand, things become quite easier. Just as two heads are always better than one, two hands are always better in solving a problem. As many people start pitching in, the magnitude of goodness and beneficence increases. The unity of some people can bring about tremendous differences in any course of events.
I have always been a person who likes to have social participation and help anyone around I can in any way possible. I have strong affection towards homeless, orphans and needy people. I remember since childhood I had been saving my money and then giving to someone who was in dire need, or buy food or clothes for the poor. With this passion of philanthropy, I wanted to pursue it on large scale. In my high school, I urged a few close friends to make a non-profit organization with the objective of helping others and making someone’s life better.
With only 4 members in the group and a very little money, we started making pamphlets and posters to promote our small group. We also set up a small stall and we would sell our old things, or someone among us would bring cookies or brownies from home to sell. Others started pitching in money as charity and not long before we became a bigger team. We stared conducted sessions, small walks, and social media campaigns. When we had enough collections, we started buying gifts, goodie bags, clothes and toys. We kept this collection process open for four months and meanwhile we had contacted a foster house. We informed them that we would bring in some contributions and gifts for the children. We were all so excited as this was the first time we had been socializing this much and asking people around to help us out.
As our team appointed a representative and leaders, we sent requests for sponsorships and more funding. It did not take longer before we had enough money. We bought balloons, cakes and other gaming kits. We went to this foster home and we met with all the children. We conducted tree planation activities as well and guided them about different types of plants. After that we cut cakes and distributed gifts among those children. They were laughing, playing, cherishing and shouting with joy. The innocence and happiness on those young faces was such a unique sight and it gave me a sense of contentment. My friends and I were so happy and thankful that we made this decision and started working on it. We had never been this satisfied before and we made a commitment to each other that we would continue the good work.
That was the moment when I promised to myself that I would continue such charity work for the refugees and other needy groups. I also understood the importance of building a force that made it possible. There are so many people around us that are underprivileged and denied of basic rights yet they cannot voice their needs and concerns. Therefore, it is imperative to join hands in hands to raise a voice for them and if possible practically do something for them. The least we can do is raise awareness in the community and introduce the issue to the concerned people. Such small collective acts of a few individuals can bring happiness among so many people.
