News Coverage of an Event in Print (Newspaper) vs. Video (Television)
The news coverage of any event in a country setup is very crucial and important in the day to day running of a country, continent or the entire world. The news can be covered in two different ways that are either though print media which are newspapers and magazines and through video or television broadcast. Though with the emergence of technology nowadays news can easily get to people through different social media platforms which include twitter, Facebook, Instagram, snap chat and others. All this is to ensure that the people are informed about any event or emerging issue that is happening around the region or the globe. In my discussion today I am going to concentrate on the major two new coverage methods which are the print newspaper and the television coverage and contrast these two platforms since they are the once that are commonly used. In my discussion, I will contrast the advantages, importance, and limitations of using these platforms to cover the news.
Covering news through television gives people the clear picture of how the event that is being covered happened, what exactly conspired and provides a clear picture of the events that occurred . . . this therefore gives the viewer his own time to analyze and see what happed whereas covering news through the newspaper, only gives the reader the thoughts of the writer on what the writer thinks happened in some instance you may find out that the writer has omitted some important aspects of what happened and might have left out what the reader needed. News coverage through the newspaper is usually done after an event that is being written about has already happened, therefore you may find that the information that was needed from the event might have already affected the reader while the news covered through the television is always brought on-time events such as war and other natural catastrophic such as floods, earthquakes are always monitored though the video coverage and therefore may help the viewer to seek refuge in case it is affecting him directly.
News coverage through television may sometimes be risky to the journalist who covers the events that are happening this in the instance of situations like the wars, floods and other catastrophes if the journalist is covering he or she might fall into a victim of the catastrophes. Other journalists have either been hurt or died in the process of covering events through television while covering events through newspapers exposes the journalist covering the news to little danger since he or she is to study how the events unfold and write about them for his audience. During the American Revolution in the 1860s, televisions had become so common that almost everyone owned one. In this century and with the revolution of technology almost everyone owns a television and therefore covering news through television is better since it can get too many people at once and since most people spend alt of their time on television whereas covering news through the newspaper or the print media only gets to people who have the ability to read the information written and those who are patient to read long articles. This is because television coverage does not need someone to have some educational background to understand what is being said on the television. He or she can get the information by just viewing the pictures.
The news coverage of an event in print or newspaper tends to be cheaper compared to the news coverage of an event in television this is because in newspaper event coverage the journalist will only go to the place in case it is a press briefing with a camera to take a few photos and a pen and a paper to take some notes. Afterward, he or she will go to the media station and write the news down for it to reach the required audience. Whereas, the event covered through television requires several cameras, several media personalities. The network boosters should also be intact to enable transmission of the information. With all this, you realize that the cost of coverage and even though television is more expensive compared to that of covering the same event through the newspaper. Events covered through television might be aired for a short time and therefore the audience listening to it or following up on it might not get the information required of it. While and event that has been covered through print or newspaper givers the reader and the audience enough time to get exactly what happened and since the magazine has been bought by the reader he is she might have enough time to read it repeatedly. Whereas in television the information that is displayed may be there for only a few minutes.
In conclusion, covering an event in either print or newspaper and television has different pros and cons that affect it. Though at the end of the time what all the audience and the viewers may end up needing is to get good news that is reliable and not misleading inspire of the source in which the news is coming from. This, therefore, calls for all the media companies to equip their journalist with appropriate facilities enough support and finally encourage them on the broadcasting ethics and the importance of gaining their audience confidence. All this will ensure that the kind of information received concerning any event is authentic.
