Lack of Cultural Diversity in Television Shows In Hollywood: Writing Plan

Inquiry Question: Why aren’t television directors not incorporating cultural diversity in the television shows?
Introduction
Since the very beginning, Hollywood has been focusing more on providing opportunities to the Whites in a majority as compared to the people belonging to other social or ethnic classes. Be it on-screen roles or the duties being performed off-screen, Hollywood has always faced criticism over the issue that fewer opportunities are being provided on the basis of favoritism instead of merit (Rocchio). The following research paper will look into the facts that the critics giving out such statements are not entirely wrong and directors in Hollywood still avoid to incorporate the factors of cultural diversity in their shows.
Discussion
Hollywood has been charged heavily with accusations regarding gender and racial bias, even sexual stereotyping. It is heavily believed that White people especially White males are dominating almost every field of the film Industry be it writing, direction, production or acting (Erigha). Talking of acting, every other movie being produced in Hollywood portrays a White male or, very minutely, a White female playing a lead role saving the world or giving or romancing the other lead (Boggs).
A little change has been seen in recent years, but that is not enough. It will take a long time to incorporate such changes on a higher or at least on an equal level in television shows. Examples of prominent TV shows portraying black actors in lead roles are Scandal, "Orange is the New Black" and "how to get away with a Murder." These shows are doing really great among the audience and have got great reviews from the critics as well. Scandal is even one step ahead of these as it also shows female in lead role, this also emphasizing on women empowerment.
Conclusion
In a nutshell, the notion that Hollywood is not taking cultural diversity seriously and only portrays the features and issues related to a specific class is somewhat true, but the trends are significantly changing now. New faces coming from various cultures and classes and multiple aspects of different cultures around the worlds can be seen in many TV shows which is a ray of hope for the Hollywood industry.
