Journal entry# 1

Introduction

Vocabulary means collection of words that makes a language. These are special set of words that are important for making a sentence and every word has a meaning. The set of words have explanations that allow learners to understand how language can be used. Vocabulary is important in both reading because a person cannot understand the literal and contextual meaning of the word. Having knowledge of the vocabulary an individual is able to make sense of the words and get idea of every detail that it can convey.

Body

Vocabulary is also important for writing because people having knowledge about them can create better content. This allow writer to transmit their thoughts into words. People having knowledge of vocabulary and practice of using them in routine don’t struggle to search for the appropriate words for writing a story or journal. This also allow selection of right words for conveying certain themes and ideas which makes the writing clear. My process of learning vocabulary might differ because I don’t immediately search for the meaning of new words. I try to make sense by reading the sentence and by connecting it with the theme.

Word parts means its components such as suffixed, prefixes and roots. My knowledge of word parts will improve my vocabulary because I would be able to differentiate between suffixes and prefixes. I would apply them by realizing that prefix is added at the beginning and suffix at the end of the word. Context clues are hints given by the author to the readers for understanding meaning of unusual words. These are better because the reader can make sense of the meaning by relying on theme rather than consulting dictionary.

Conclusion

Word choice and standard English are important for written communications because they exhibits the capability and language skills of the writer. By making proper use of these two elements the writer can create a quality content. It is not possible to write in the same way as we speak in conversation because writing is more formal. When we speak we don’t care about the word choice, grammar and vocabulary but in writing it matters a lot.

Introduction

Life taught me an important lesson that “Individuality is important for building self-identity”. I learned through my experience that people are also reluctant to judge others. During my high school I cared a lot about peers and my friends. I wanted to be in their good book so I tried my best to stay honest and help them as much as I could. I used to believe that it is important to keep friends and support each other. I was also afraid of walking alone and believed that having connections will save me in life.

Body

During my high school I was assigned one group task that allowed me to change my view. In that task every member of the group had to create a creative art work. I chose the most challenging task of visiting the galleries and taking pictures of historical sculptures. Rest of the members were not even serious for the work. Still my motive was to please everyone. The project was submitted as a collective work but when the teacher asked whose vision it was? One of my friend claimed that it was his idea. I didn’t receive any credit which was hurtful for me. Since that day I realized that ‘I must attain individuality and create self-identity.

Conclusion

I realized that in many ways society is good but at the end of the day one has to choose his own path. People are always ready to take advantage of those who are lacking individuality will face consequences. In every aspects of life that past experience has influenced me to a larger extent. At work I am always inclined to show my individual creativity and keep an independent vision. Individuality brings feelings of satisfaction and sense of self-worth.

Introduction

Different personality attributes and traits if individuals makes a larger group. The four kind of individuals that makes a large group include; those who make things happen, those who just watch things happen, those who complain about things happening and those who are unaware of anything. Different kinds of individual play different role in the larger groups.

Body

The first kind of individuals are those that make things happen. These people possess certain attributes that allow them to make best use of opportunities for doing something different. These people are confident and capable of taking the challenging role. Their tremendous amount of self-esteem and belief in self encourage them to take bold steps. These are the creators who have a clear vision while the second type only watch things. They lack capacity of doing something personally and rely on what is done by others. The third type is of people who just complaint about things. These individuals are destructors and don’t contribute to company’s success. The fourth category is of individuals who are unaware of things happening in front of them. This is due to their lack of interest in surroundings.

Conclusion

Type of individuals who make things happen play more crucial role in any organization. They are the decision makers and rely on their skills for creating something tremendous. The characteristics of the three other kinds different significantly from this type. The second category does not contribute to the development of the organization because these people criticize the things that are happening but lack any ability of doing something. The last category has most negative role because these people are devoid of motivation and don’t show any signs of profess.

Introduction

A good and well spoken English plays significant role in the academic success. It is important for the students to learn the art of writing and speaking English because this will be essential requirement for entering a professional life. People who are proficient in English reading could understand the words and vocabulary that in certain situations can give them edge. In professional lives people are required to write reports or perform some language related tasks which exhibits the need for having good understanding of language.

Body

Building English language proficiency is important for attaining professional success. William Raspberry stated, “good English well spoken and well-written will open many doors than a college degree”. To find job in a good organization one must excel in English language. This is because firms are always assessing speaking and writing capabilities of the applicants. Students who have managed to build better language competency after completion of degrees are more likely to get good jobs compared to the students that lack such skills. Having knowledge of using language open more career opportunities for the students. Good grammar not only help people in getting reasonable jobs but it is also important for getting promotions. Performance evaluations of employees also include assessment of their language skills. It is thus important to build adequate English language skills for having a bright future.

Conclusion

English language proficiency is an essential criteria of hiring for the companies. It is important for the students to develop ability of speaking and writing if there are aspiring to get good jobs in future. Language skills always give an edge to the people because it is an essential criteria for communicating with the clients and supervisors.

The Food and Drug Administration must adopt extensive testing procedures for regulating dietary supplements. It is important to regulate dietary supplements because they impact human health. Any negligence can have detrimental impacts on the health and life of individuals. Without regulations manufacturers can engage in malpractices which depicts the need for testing dietary supplements.

Without regulations manufacturers can become part of malpractices such as use of substandard products that will threaten health of individuals. The purpose of dietary supplements is to promote human health and improve the quality of life. However, without regulations, the manufacturers will face no restrictions and will be encouraged to neglect the basic health standards. The role of FDA is important in regulating the dietary supplements for examining the ingredients used and for ensuring quality of the products. extensive testing will eliminate the possibilities of using substandard or banned ingredients. This will play positive role on assuring health and promoting living standard in society. FDA’s involvement is important because it will eliminate the engagement of manufactures in wrong practices such as use of misbranded and adulterated products. it is the responsibility of FDA to take strict actions against the people who have been involved in the trade of substandard dietary supplements.

Conclusion

It is important for FDA to conduct extensive testing for examining the contents of dietary supplements and for confirming that they are enrich in nutrients that are essential for healthy life. Manufacturers of dietary supplements cannot rely on self-regulation because this will provide them opportunity of exploiting their rights. The only possible way of eliminating negative practices is by conducting testing. FDA also has power to take action against non-reliable and fraudulent manufacturers.

As English language is essential for commutation internationally, students must be offered opportunities of building proficiency. The argument claims that English language must be made part of curriculums because it is one of the common medium used for communicating internationally. English is not only a common language used in most of the countries but it is also a language of business. The application of this language in the real world depicts the need for learning it. Without building English language skill, one cannot survive in professional world.

The central argument claims that one cannot deny the importance of English language. This is one of the commonly spoken language in majority of the countries. By building proficiency in this language, one could excel in any career. The focus is on helping students in learning this language. The counter-argument states that English is just a language not a skill so one who is capable would succeed in professional life without the need of learning it. This is against the main argument which lays emphasis on the significance of this language. It is possible to refute counter-argument on the facts that English has achieved the status of international language and it is official language of 53 countries. In most of the countries English is taught as secondary language, which indicates that building proficiency will allow individuals to gain advantage in professional lives.
