The girl with Bangs

“The girl with Bangs”, the story by Zadie Smith is really an attractive read. In the story, the writer has managed to hide her real identity. For a very long, it appeared that the story is being narrated by a male which is attracted to Charlotte because of her bangs. But when finally, the writer talks about her bad habits of sleeping with everything just to fulfil the lust, it becomes apparent that the writer is a female and not the male. In case if the writer had been a male, Charlotte would be of the different value to him.

Just the bangs of Charlotte are attractive for the writer. This is her way of getting attracted to another being, that would have been different in my case. The narrator’s taste appears of a specific type, she is obsessed the way Charlotte carries herself and make her attractive for whom she loves to sleep with. The narrator has just mentioned this as fulfilling her lust and nothing else. She mentions that this is what she doesn’t like in her, as she is not much worthy for those who want to play with her body.

Other than her bangs, the author has appeared attractive to many other physical traits of her. She writes about her hips, wrist and forehand. Comparing these physical attributes of her with those of boys, she mentions that there is nothing that boys could find similar in them. this is the reason they fulfil their lust upon her. She has also written about the bangs which add to her beauty. Finally, the description of her room and bras by the narrator show that Charlotte had been a very dusky kind of woman which is not much attentive to her appearance. Her disordered room and the repetitive use of bras indicate that she is not much careful about her belongings and the environment she lives in.
