Abstract

In this paper, the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina has been discussed. There are multiple areas that are still awaiting restoration and the authorities are formulating strategies in order to bring these fields of life back into their original shape. This paper has been written to raise awareness among the people about the extent of the damage caused to the infrastructure of New Orleans and a few other states because of Hurricane Katrina. Water lines, power supplies, roads and sewer lines are the most affected infrastructural assets of New Orleans. This paper is helping the nation in understanding how the government is mobilizing its resources in order to bring things back on the normal track. This study would be appealing for readers who will, hopefully, come to know about the performance of the concerned authorities, who are struggling to make things better since 2005. This paper is important if one wants to know and appreciate the efforts of the government as the conditions are improving day by day.

This work intends to help the reader comprehend the strategies and plans that have been formulated in order to deal with such situations, should they ever arise in the future. This work mainly focuses on the identification of areas that need attention first, as almost all the fields of life have been affected by Hurricane Katrina, but infrastructure remains the most important as far as destruction is concerned, owing to its direct impact on human and animal life. This paper claims that damage to infrastructure needs to be fixed first. It has been observed that people were having plenty of issues because of the damaged infrastructure. After taking a look at the end results, it can be promulgated that increased, adequate and readily available funding could have made the present condition of the infrastructure better.
