Global Warming
Introduction
Global Warming is considered to be a term that tends to describe a continuous rise in the average temperature of oceans and atmosphere of Earth. The matter of fact is that it has been observed a change which is permanently changing the climate of Earth (Philander et al., 2018). There is no doubt that the temperature on the earth is increasing on a daily basis, and if not controlled, it can lead to disastrous results in the future. Apart from the simple definition, global warming can also be considered as a climate change that may result in the rise of temperature. One thing that must be taken into consideration is the fact that the causes of global warming are natural events.
Causes of Global Warming
There are a number of factors that tend to play an important role in causing global warming. The matter of fact is that apart from the natural causes of global warming, there are numberless causes like economic and political that results in global warming. Certain factors are responsible for global warming. When it comes to the main causes of global warming, they are split up into two groups. One is the natural cause, and other is the anthropogenic or man-made cause. It has been observed that a sudden rise in the temperature is from the middle of the 20th century due to the increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases. It must be considered that the observed greenhouse gases were the results from none other than human activities. The best example in this scenario would be of fossil fuel burning deforestation.
Forest Destruction
All over the world, one of the main man-made natural factors that tend to cause global warming is forest destruction. The reason for that is quite simple as atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide increases which results in the increase in this trend faster and faster. Forest destruction is undoubtedly one of the main reason for global warming. When it comes to deforestation, its main cause os the fuel in living by using forests. Due to the increase in the use of the forest for charcoal and wood, people tend to use them from forests. There is no doubt that deforestation allows a large amount of carbon to increase, and which results in global warming (Philander et al., 2018).
There is no uncertainty in the fact that rainforests tend to play a vital role to lock up atmospheric carbon within their vegetation. All of this is done with photosynthesis. Studies and research show that at times when forests are seen burning, degrading, or clearing, it has a number of adverse effects. There is an increasing carbon in the atmosphere transforming into greenhouse gases. One of the most discussed aspect while discussing global warming is the greenhouse effect. The matter of fact is that tropical deforestation is the reason behind 20 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. There is a high need to understand that the forest plays a vital role in saving air from pollution. The reason for that lies in the fact that trees tend to remove carbon from the atmosphere by photosynthesis and are seen releasing oxygen back in the air.
Burning
Another major cause of global warming is the burning gasoline for the purpose of transportation. The matter of fact is that in 1750, the industrial era led to an increase in the number of human activities that have resulted in increasing the degree of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. When it comes to living, there are certain uses of burning like in industries and transportation. In the 21st century, a number of cars are observed that burn gasoline in different developing counties. Apart from this what is need to consider is the role of industries as well. Many industries burn oil and coal, and some of them have their thermal power stations which play an influential role in this cause.
Moreover, the rapid increase in the population is another reason behind global warming. The reason for that is quite simple as the numbers in the population increases, it results in increasing the atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations. Apart from this, the ever-increasing consumption of fossil fuels in industrial areas play an important role in increasing the temperature of earth which results in global warming. One thing that must be taken into consideration is the fact that each aspect of burning results to make an increase in the atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations.
Natural Causes
There is no doubt that the change in the climate is being observed from centuries now. There are certain natural reasons behind the phenomenon of global warming as well. One of the reasons behind global warming is the natural rotation of sun which results in changing its intensity along with moving closer to earth. Apart from this, there are several other causes of global warming as well, and the best example in this scenario would be of greenhouse gases. When it comes to greenhouse gases, they are simply sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide which tend to trap the solar heat rays and are supposed to prevent it to escape from earth surface. Due to this phenomenon, it has been seen as a rise in the temperature of the earth.
Global warming is not due to a single cause, there are a number of interrelated issues that trends that result in giving rise to this ever-increasing issue on earth. Volcanic eruptions are also one of the main reason here. There is no doubt that volcanic eruptions play an important part in increasing the overall temperature of the earth resulting in global warming. The matter of fact is that one volcanic eruption has the capability to release a great amount of ash and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. It must be considered that after the increase in carbon dioxide, it results in increasing the earth temperature along the greenhouse trapping the solar radiations in the earth.
Another natural cause of global warming is methane. The reason for that is quite simple as methane is a greenhouse gas, and is quite effective to trap heat in the atmosphere. One thing that must be taken into consideration is the fact that methane traps heat in the atmosphere to a great extent as compared to carbon dioxide. It is often seen that methane gas is released from a number of different areas. There is a high chance that methane may release from an industrial waste process, coal mining, petroleum systems, natural gas, landfill, and cattle.
Problems
There is no doubt that greenhouses gases and global warming are problematic. The reason for that lies in the fact that they tend to raise the temperature of the earth. There are certain problems related to the issue of global warming in the world. There is a high probability that due to global warming, there may be observed polar ice melting. Due to this, there may be widespread flooding on a global level. There is no doubt that if it is not controlled, it may result in increasing the intensity and frequency of harmful natural disasters.
The matter of fact is that the melting of polar ice caps is undoubtedly among the biggest problems for the humankind in the 21st century (Bohr, 2017). Due to the increase in the temperature of the earth, there is a high chance that such large masses of snow and ice to be melted. The outcomes of this may result in creating the sea level to rise globally. Similarly, there is a higher chance that in such a scenario, glaciers can be melted which may result in creating problems on earth. Studies and researches show that in case if the ice and snow were seen to be melting today, it may result in an increased sea level of over 200 feet globally (Van et al., 2015). The matter of fact is that the countries that are on a higher chance to be affected tend to contribute to this issue of global warming themselves.
There is a higher chance that the increase in global warming would definitely result in biodiversity around the world to suffer. It may result in the death of different species because they will not be able to adapt to their changing environments. Species like birds will get lost migrating in order to get food. There is a high chance that the humankind may see the food sources being compromised as well. Apart from all of this, another major threat is hurricanes. There is no doubt that hurricanes are of greater occurrence and this will definitely be causing an increase in the effects of the economy. The people and societies will find this quite difficult to keep up and offer the required support. The matter of fact is that all such natural disasters will be seen increasing in intensity.
Impact of Global Warming
The social and environmental changes that are caused by the human emissions of greenhouse gases are considered to be the effects of global warming. There are a number of global warming impacts observed, and there is a high to address these issues as well. The matter of fact is that the impacts of global warming may vary from place to place. There are certain areas where the impact of global warming is hardly observed, and there are some places as well where the impacts of global warming tend to make it a threat to mankind.
Impact on Weather
Studies and researches tend to show changes in weather due to global warming. Due to the changes in climate, there may be an effect on the different types of weather events. When it comes to the changes in weather due to global warming, they are observed in the frequency, intensity, amount, and type of precipitation (Van et al., 2015). Due to global warming, there will be extreme weather in the upcoming years. There is no doubt that the temperature in the night is seen to be increasing from the 1950s. The matter of fact is that the changes due to global warming in temperature vary. Some changes can be for a shorter period while some can be for a longer period. Studies and research show that in the upcoming time, climate change will be in association with hot days to be greater in number than cold days (Panos et al., 2015).
Whether the county is developing, or underdeveloped, global warming tends to boost the probability of extreme weather events. The perfect example in this scenario would be of heat waves. It has been observed that within a few decades, it has been observed that heat waves with high humidity have become a lot severe and frequent. There is no doubt that extremely hot nights have resulted doubled in frequency. The matter of fact is that such changes are attributed by climate scientists and are not explained by natural variability. One thing that must be taken into consideration is the fact that heat waves that tend to have high humidity have a greater risk for human health.
There is no doubt that the impacts of extreme events on human society along with environment are seen to be varied. However, it is true that a few impacts are beneficial as well. For example, when it comes to fewer cold extremes, it tends to lead for fewer cold deaths. One thing that must be taken into consideration is the fact that the majority of such impacts are negative. An increase in the overall temperature can lead to the glaciers to melt. The outcomes of this may result in increasing the sea levels which will be seen putting people living in lowland areas.
Social Systems
It is quite obvious that climate change will tend to affect agriculture and food production globally. The reason for that is due to the effects of elevated carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, increased frequency of extreme weathers, altered transpiration and precipitation regimes, and higher temperatures. In a nutshell, it can be said that the low-latitude areas are considered to be at a higher risk to have decreased crop yields. The matter of fact is that climate change tends to result in increasing the number of people at risk of hunger. There is no doubt that climate changes tend to impact the depended in a strong manner on projected upcoming economic and social development.
Moreover, there is a high need to consider the effects of global warming on human health as it is one of the major concern in the current world scenario. The matter of fact is that human is beings have the exposition to climate changes. All of this has been done by changing weather patterns. Apart from this, it has been observed many climate-related trends that tend to affect water resources. The matter of fact is that these include the changes in surface waters, cryosphere, and precipitation.
Higher Death Rates
In the current scenario, it has been observed an increase in the overall death rate due to global warming. Climate change is considered to be one of the biggest threat to health in the 21st century. As the temperature tends to increase, so the deaths, emergency rooms visits, and incidence of illness. One of the main reason behind the increase in the number of deaths is because of the increase in temperature in areas where people are not used to living in a hotter place. When it comes to one of the most developed countries, America, it has been observed hundreds of heat-related deaths occur on a yearly basis.
Dirtier Air
There is no doubt that the rising temperatures also affect air pollution as it increases ground-level ozone. Such effects are created due to pollution from factories, cars, and different sources. The matter of fact is that ground-level ozone is considered to be the main component of smog. There is a linkage between higher death rates for asthmatics and dirtier air as it tends to make the public health even worse. One thing that must be taken into consideration is the fact that warmer temperature tends to increase airborne pollen as well.
Solutions for Global Warming
As global warming is a serious issue in the current world, and there is no doubt that it is a huge risk with regards to the future as well, there definitely is a great need to put more focus in finding solutions for this problem. There is a high need to reduce the amount of heat-trapping emissions in order to address global warming in an effective manner. Although the issue of global warming is a quite big issue, the matter of fact is that there are certain ways in which the issue can be resolved.
Renewable Energies
The foremost way that plays an important role in preventing climate change is to move away from fossil fuels. The reason for that is quite simple as it allows the individuals to avoid the place from where there is a risk to their lives. One of the debatable questions would be about the alternatives. In such a scenario, the answer would be to go for renewable energies such as geothermal, biomass, wind, and solar.
Energy and Water Efficiency
There is no doubt that it is quite essential to produce clean energy. However, it must be considered that the reduction of energy consumption and water with the help of utilizing more devices is quite less costly (Johnson et al., 2011).
Sustainable Transportation
In the current scenario, there is a high need to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide which can be done by promoting carpooling, transportation, hydrogen and electricity mobility. Apart from this, it will be quite helpful to fight against global warming.
Sustainable Infrastructure
There is a high need to renovate the existing constructions and build low energy buildings as well. The reason for that is quite simple as it will play a vital role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions from buildings. One thing that must be considered is that the carbon dioxide discussed here is due to hot water, air conditioning or lighting.
Sustainable Agriculture and Forest Management
In the 21st century, global warming is on its peak. Therefore, it has been observed that there must be an encouragement to better utilize natural resources. Certain steps should be taken in order to make the agriculture greener.
Conclusion
It is concluded that global warming can also be considered as a climate change that may result in the rise of temperature. Certain factors are responsible for global warming. When it comes to the main causes of global warming, they are split up into different groups. When it comes to deforestation, its main cause os the fuel in living by using forests.
