The Rank Structure in the army
The rank structure is a very fundamental aspect of the army. It was started in the 1700s to make sure that there was someone who could give orders to other soldiers and ensure respect. In fact, without rank structure, military organizations cannot function. This has been proved by the many civil armies that have risen and ended up collapsing because they didn't have a rank structure. The rank structure is a link of chain from the highest officer to the lowest. Through rank structure, the commander is always in a position to know the strength of his troops, especially if they are going to war. The rank structure also promotes discipline in between the army officers. Without rank structure, it will be difficult to assess who heads who thus everyone would try to act like he is in charge. Also, the rank structure ensures that rules and regulations in the army are obeyed. Those who do not obey rules and regulations may be disciplined by the army officer who is the highest in rank. Without rank, in the army, it is challenging to make sure that rules and regulation are obeyed, bringing about anarchy.
Army leaders are developed through a training approach combined with academies and doctrines. Army leaders are supposed to have intelligence, character and presence. This Assists them to lead others in a mission successfully. However, army leaders should only be rigid when it comes to obeying the orders and following rule and regulation. In terms of understanding a particular environment and method of going to war, they are supposed to be dynamic so that the enemy does not master their way of doing things.
In conclusion rank structure in military organizations is essential. Without rank structure, the army would be in disarray because no one would know who is a charge. Thus, the highest army officer should ensure that proper rank is maintained.
