Do androids dream of electric sheep is a novel that makes use of androids which are identical to people. In chapter 11 the author discussed the Voight-Kampff which is the device that distinguishes androids from humans. Voight-Kampff servers as a novum and shows the difference between human and androids. It is used to measure body functions which include respiration, heart rate, eye movement and blushing in response to emotional questions. The Voight-Kampff machine consists of an artificial test which is used to analyze that a computer can convince a human to answer the questions and act as another human who is asking emotional questions to see the reaction of the humans. The tool was also used in the movie Blade runner to test that its truly work as a human and develop emotional feelings in humans or not.
In chapter 11 in line 46 Rick proceeds with his Voight-Kampff test applying it to Phil Resch. The line explains that androids don't act like a human and its just a false memory test which is not effective for the humans. The line shows the element of novum in the chapter. The role and impact of novum in this chapter are that Rick applies test on Phil Resch, but it was very difficult for him to test his device and get the results which he wants. The device was used as a human, but it didn't work as a human because it is difficult for a device to distinguish between false memories and real ones. In chapter 12 on line 95, it was shown that Rick realizes it was not the error of his device its basically due to Resch who is creating a problem. This shows that the story will be different if the novum elements were not used in this because it will difficult to describe the device like Voight-Kampff without using Novum to explain the difference between human and android
