A career can be defined as an occupation that an individual undertakes to attain progress. Attaining a higher education along with good grades guarantees a bright and successful future. Modern life swirls around multiple elements of technology and therefore it has become an essential part of our lives. Owing to an increase in the use of technology the career that interests me the most is computer engineering. The reason for choosing this career is because computer engineering exists at the intersection of both innovation and technology. The field of computer engineering is vast as it offers wide-ranging career paths in not only hardware engineering but software engineering as well.

Computer engineering is a blend of two fields that are electrical engineering and computer science while also incorporating computer networking and digital technology. The computer engineers are responsible to use their knowledge regarding hardware and software design along with computer programming to develop computing applications more efficient and effective. Computer engineers are also responsible for designing new computer software applications to enhance the network capabilities of both communication and network communications as well (Sommerville).

To become a computer engineer, a comprehensive college education is required that can take from three to four years. In the initial two years of bachelor’s degree program students are required to complete the computer engineering perquisites and several other general education courses. The last years of bachelor’s programs consist of foundational courses in computer and electrical engineering. Due to the rise in technology and demand for computer engineers many organizations prefer engineers with advanced degrees such as a Master’s degrees (Mulder 30). I have completed two years in Mesa Community College and then I shifted from the college to Grand Canyon University to attain my preferred career. The reason for selecting Grand Canyon University is due to its diverse environment and several computer engineering related courses. I can select an associate degree in computer engineering or can earn a bachelor’s degree along with various advanced courses. In engineering, it is necessary to do an internship along with courses to get the experience of implementing the knowledge gained by courses in real-world scenarios.

People work hard to attain a good salary so that they can bear their expenses. In the context of computer engineering, computer engineers more than a comfortable salary. According to the statistics of Bureau of Labor, an average income for a computer engineer was more than $109,403 in 2014. However, if an individual has an advanced degree in computer engineering and a significant amount of experience then an individual can make more than $150,000. The salary is also depends upon the regions and industries, for instance, computer equipment manufacturing and software designing companies offer more salaries as compared to the organization that hires engineers for scientific research (Mulder 30).

While discussing the computer engineering job location. It has been observed that due to the rise of technology many people are relying more upon technology. So computer engineering-related jobs are available worldwide. In Arizona as well there are plenty of computer engineering jobs available. This is because computer engineering is not limited to designing hardware or software but this field opens paths for multiple career opportunities such as computer system analysts, computer support specialists, and several other career paths that offer strong earning potential.

A computer engineering career has multiple benefits. There is a lot of scope for this career in the future along with excellent salary packages. However, there are a few downfalls of this career. As many people are interested about it, and they are attaining higher education, many organizations prefer people who have advanced degrees in computer engineering. This makes it difficult for people having associate and bachelor’s degrees in computer engineering to get a suitable job.

However, despite negative aspects of this field, students who are aspiring to become a computer engineer must focus more on doing an internship to gain experience so that they can get good jobs. Also, students can select universities that offer multiple programs that have major subjects related to computer engineering such as Grand Canyon University to choose several career paths to relate to computer engineering fields.
