Bush v Clinton 1992 elections represents the worst fight between the republicans and the democrats for election campaigns. The issues of election campaign remained in the limelight due to the tactics used by Republicans. The Republican party had significant impacts on the 1992 election. This election remains memorable because after 1968, it was only in this year that the third candidate managed to get popular vote. The Republican party leader Pat Buchanan challenged the incumbent president George W. Bush. Although Buchanan didn’t won any challenge against Bush but he succeeded in raising many primary challenges against him. As Bush faced opposition form his party and Democrats, he had to secure his presidential position. Securing denomination was the biggest threat that was the result of his policies CITATION You1813 \l 1033 (YouTube). I think the mistake that cost Bush his presidential seat was his failure to keep his promise. He said in 1988 that he will resist tax increase. But when he came to power he didn’t worked on it. He has lost much of his vote bank. The insurgent campaign of Buchanan allowed him to win 37 percent of the votes in North Hampshire. I think that the inability of Bush to control taxes was his biggest flaw and resulted in his defeat.
Ross Perot also ran for the Presidential campaign independently. He also achieved ballot access and received the popular vote, which also raised challenge for Bush. The evidence suggests that he gained 19 percent of the votes. Perot earned popularity that threatened the position of Bush. Clinton was facing allegations from Republican Party due to his extramarital affairs that he denied CITATION CBS17 \l 1033 (CBS). This further intensified the situation and he extended support to Perot against Bush. The result of the re-nomination was unsettling for Bush because he lost it. Clinton maintained a victory against the incumbent president Bush CITATION CBS17 \l 1033 (CBS).
The Town hall debate performance was a clever debate made by Clinton. The debate was impressive because Clinton had addressed all the issues like education, and racial diversity that allowed him to build a positive public image of Democrats. Clinton had focused on public education by declaring that the state will make it a priority by spending in it and providing free education because kids are the future of America. The positive image of Democrats has also ruined the image of the Republican leader, George Bush. I think that Clinton made the best Townhall’s speech that helped him in securing his position against the incumbent president. The results of the elections were also in favor of Clinton because he won more votes against Bush.
Iran Contra affairs also had dominant impacts on the incumbent president’s position. The secret arm deals of US in trading missiles to Nicaragua also worsened the situation. President Bush had given pardons to six defendants who were involved in the Iran Contra affairs. His decision caused him to face severe criticism because he opposition claimed that he had undermined the principle that ‘no man is above law’ CITATION You1813 \l 1033 (YouTube). By granting pardon he had adopted an unfair role because of the positions of defendants. He had supported the powerful allies by showing that they are free to commit crimes. This remained one of the significant reasons behind his defeat. The decision of the incumbent president were challenged by the opposition leaders. I think the weaknesses of the Bush’s policies and his decisions such as taxations and Iran Contra affairs resulted in his defeat.
