Debate Question
Religion plays an important and central role in the lives of individuals. It highlights different aspects of life and guides the person on how to navigate through the sufferings and gain happiness at the end. The concept of misery is so intense for some writers and scientists that they doubt in human lives if there is more misery to happiness, or is it good or bad. According to Darwin despite all the obstacles happiness still prevails. If all the individuals of a particular species are only destined to suffer then at that time, they would rather choose not to propagate their kind. The universe is not made to suffer; rather it is made to enjoy the luxuries that are present in it. No one can dispute the fact that there are many sufferings in this world, but they are only present to uplift our moral beliefs ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"LF1YKHXX","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(\\uc0\\u8220{}The Autobiography of Charles Darwin, by Charles Darwin,\\uc0\\u8221{} n.d.)","plainCitation":"(“The Autobiography of Charles Darwin, by Charles Darwin,” n.d.)","noteIndex":0},"citationItems":[{"id":708,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/local/4C6u8dIT/items/9I8FG3YP"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/local/4C6u8dIT/items/9I8FG3YP"],"itemData":{"id":708,"type":"webpage","title":"The Autobiography of Charles Darwin, by Charles Darwin","URL":"https://www.gutenberg.org/files/2010/2010-h/2010-h.htm","accessed":{"date-parts":[["2019",3,6]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (“The Autobiography of Charles Darwin, by Charles Darwin,” n.d.). According to East the Bhagwat Gita and concept of Buddhism when a person becomes a slave of himself and all the actions that are performed with great desire to satisfy his ego and deeds become the basis for sufferings and dissatisfaction. In this materialist world the individuals who are free from materials and false ego are happy in the true sense. Man can only attain true happiness even in hardships by surrendering himself to the divine and also by helping people who are helpless. Being purified by intelligence and controlling mind with determination, by giving up the objects that causes self-gratification, by freeing oneself from hatred and attachment, the one who eats less and can control the mind and the tongue and who is without ego it is possible to elevate oneself from sufferings and attain true happiness ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"Mo4oH8Bh","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(\\uc0\\u8220{}Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 18: Conclusion--The Perfection of Renunciation,\\uc0\\u8221{} n.d.)","plainCitation":"(“Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 18: Conclusion--The Perfection of Renunciation,” n.d.)","noteIndex":0},"citationItems":[{"id":710,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/local/4C6u8dIT/items/INYH4DSX"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/local/4C6u8dIT/items/INYH4DSX"],"itemData":{"id":710,"type":"webpage","title":"Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 18: Conclusion--The Perfection of Renunciation","URL":"https://asitis.com/18","accessed":{"date-parts":[["2019",3,6]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (“Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 18: Conclusion--The Perfection of Renunciation,” n.d.).
While Darwin focuses more on the scientific perspective of happiness by discussing natural selection and reproduction to propagate one of its kind, the east or Bhagwat Gita focuses on the inner self to minimize the sufferings of the world and to achieve happiness. The views of Darwin vary greatly from most of the cultural and social believes of the world. Darwin used a unique approach to address the issue of being happy in this world, and that is quite interesting.
