Debate Question: Does happiness come from money and possession?

The question of happiness is an ongoing debate among many philosophers, psychologists, economists, and sociological experts. Some confuse money and possession with happiness while most who have plenty of possessions and money turn out to be the most seeking for happiness. If happiness were money, all the wealthy and rich folks would be the happiest on earth, but researches have shown, and many news reports have proved that mostly the most affluent people are dissatisfied. Does it prove that money is not happiness? If not then what is? Can we say it is an emotional condition of someone? It could be. For example, "to be happy is to have a favorable emotional condition" (17). I go with this definition of happiness because what is the use of money if it does not make you feel happy. You can with the help of money travel the whole world, wear all the branded stuff, but when the inner self wants a family gathering, friends coming over and deeps talks about love, care, friendship. Does money alone have the potential to buy all these feelings? Money can never buy you love it’s your morals, your behavior, your God-like character that can. As per research, happiness should be purpose driven. For example, “knowing sense of your purpose is worth up to seven years of extra life expectancy” (24). Happy individuals are known to have longer life and if purpose alone can give you seven years of life expectancy we all should cherish it. However on the other hand, Douglas is of the view that, “pride strand of happiness has to do with how satisfied people are with their accomplishments and positions” (21) In contrast to this, another painful truth is that many of the things we believe will make us happy are just plain wrong”. (34). It is not accomplishments and positions that give us happiness but being around people from whom energies of love and companionship and good feelings flow.
