Section II Discussion
Homer was a famous poet and philosopher in Ancient Greek. Although there are many contributions by the celebrated author to the Greek literature two of his poems have gained significant fame in the history of Ancient Greece and Athens. These poems are titled as Iliad and Odyssey. Iliad is a poem that revolves around the legendary tale of the Trojan War between the forces of King Agamemnon and the skilled Greek warrior Achilles. The poem also highlights the ten-year-long siege of the city of Troy by a coalition of Greek kingdoms.
The poem, Iliad, basically consists of three tribes or groups names as Achaeans, Trojans, and Gods. The two main characters in the poem are King Agamemnon and Achilles, who are both very skilled and powerful warriors. The poem revolves around a long quarrel that happened between these two characters, along with and during the Trojan Wars, which also involved other characters from time to time.
There are different themes that have been focused on and highlighted in this poem. Iliad throws light on a number of aspects of life especially in the times of struggle and war. The themes are Fate, Pride, Struggle, Kleos, Nostos, Hybris, Time, Pride and Menis. The poem sets out a stage of the political war theater of the Ancient Greek and draws a clear picture that how the political systems used to be in the times of famous Kind Agamemnon.
