I agree with the claims made by Jake that the job of nurses never ends. They often encounter situations that are challenging and require efficient decisions. I think that nurses must have adequate experience and skills that assist them in taking the right decisions. I agree that evidence-based practice is linked to enhances clinical outcomes. This reflects that the nurses can adopt EBP for improving their competency and take the role of efficient nurses. The nurses can use this model in practical settings where they would be able to improve a patient's outcome. The nurse must provide adequate care to the patient that improves the scope of recovery.
I think Jake has rightly pointed out a commonly used EBP that is a urinary catheter. I also agree that a larger population suffering from different diseases develop infections of urinary tracts. Nurses can use their catheters for minimizing the risks of further complications. They also need to learn its use and identify the condition of the patient that requires the catheter. I agree that the nurses must possess adequate knowledge and experience of using these catheters because any mishandling or negligence can cause complications for the patient.
I think that the nurses must be provided clear instructions regarding the use of catheters. They must be self-sufficient in managing devices and use only on patients who are diagnosed with urinary tract infections. They must follow certain instructions such as cleaning the catheter and keeping them in an orderly manner. It is also crucial for the nurse to conduct diagnosis on time by examining the physical condition of the patient. They can also give instructions to the patients regarding hygiene such as washing hands and cleaning properly. In case of infections, they can guide patients to drink lots of water.
