Dear Anila, after reading your post, I must say that you did a commendable job in explaining the perceptions of Hispanic group people regarding healthcare. Specifically discussing the US, more than 58 million Hispanic people were residing in the US, making them more the nation's largest racial minority (Bureau, n.d.). According to the research published by the author Thomas and fellow researchers, while providing healthcare to an individual, one must respect their culture and beliefs and provide treatment accordingly (Thomas, 2001). I appreciate that you not only understand the importance of culture while treating Hispanic people. I think that the main difficulty that a healthcare professional face while treating people with different ethnicities is language. It is observed that in many cases, due to the language barrier, people were unable to communicate the details regarding the diseases they have. Similarly, most Hispanic people are not fluent in the English language, so they prefer to speak in their language.
In your discussion post, you have mentioned that you provide bilingual instruction to the patients you were treated so that they can understand the instructions completely. I would also like to add that integrating religious beliefs with the treatment plan can facilitate a lot in treating people. I can also relate with you as while I was treating Asian American people, I noticed that in their culture, they have great respect for the healthcare professionals, and therefore, they do not explain their condition and symptoms of disease effectively. Also, in their culture, it is considered a good deed to take care of a sick person, so they try their best to not admit the patient in the hospital for a long time (Ngo-Metzger, 2004). So while treating Asian American patients, I made sure that I am interacting with their family as well while also I made sure to treat them according to their religious and cultural beliefs.
