For the first part of the study, Flunitrazepam which is most commonly known to be the roofies is considered under the illegal drugs category. First of all the history of this drug is discussed in detail. Although its initial purpose was to use it as anesthesia so that different disorders can be treated by this drug mostly involving sleep deprivation, anxiety treatment, and withdrawal from the alcohol. But later looking at its characteristics, it is taken in large amount by the rape offenders for their use. One thing that is most important to notice here is that whenever such drugs are developed throughout history, it is sold openly without taking into consideration how it may affect the general public.
There might be another case which we have to consider is that drugs of such types are sold knowingly its adverse effect on the general public mainly because to get profit from these sort of drugs. Initially when nobody knows either the drug is legal or illegal is the bonus point for the businesses to sell the drug and get the profit from it as much as possible. Another point that has to be noticed that while knowing the illegality of the drug, why its usage or consumption has not been stopped by the authorities? Although its selling is not legal by the laws of America, it has been sold to the youngster smuggled from different paths all around the country.
Roofies are famous among young people because it is cheaper and most of the high school students can purchase them from their pocket money. Also, a common misconception around the drugs makes it more susceptible to use. We know that misconceptions usually arise due to the ignorance and ignorance stem from lack of proper education. Therefore it also tells the failure on part of schools where knowledge is not delivered to the youngsters about its uses and the misconceptions surrounding it.
While the second drug known as GHB is also sold initially for the purpose of relieving patients from insomnia and other mental issues. GHB was made to slow the activity of the brain so that patients with the mental problem for some time can be relieved. One thing is important to notice here is that most of the drugs sold for the short-term relieving, used mostly for drugs. It has the same ecstasy features as that of "roofies".
In the passage, the author goes on great detail to tell about its history which is no different from that of roofies. A thing that makes it popular is its easy access, local formula, and cheap price. First of all, like most of the other drugs, it is more popular among young people. From the passage, we can get an idea that using the drugs for the short term treatment is not beneficial and some other ways have to be devised so that such drugs could not be made in the first place. Secondly, the drug is sold legally which makes it a concerning factor for all of us.
Conclusion
In conclusion, whenever such drugs are made in the first place, its formula should not be launched until all the research is concluded on its usage and side effects. Restrictions from day 1 have to be placed so that its consumption can be stopped.
