Babettes feast is a movie based on a short story with the same title and in this movie it could be seen that it is destiny that already decides for people what they are going to have and what they would be regretting upon. This movie as well as a short story revolves around two beautiful sisters (Martine and Philippa) who grow up under the upbringing of their strict father who is a pastor with a wrathful eye. It has been seen that the former suitor of Philippa sends Parisian refugees named Babette Iavish so that he could serve as a family cook. Martines lover tells her the story of Lorens Loewenhielm, a young lieutenant who was sent to her aunts home by one of his commanding officers where he had fallen in love with Martine but despite trying many times he could not confess his love for Martine due to his lack of self-assurance. It could be easily seen in this movie that rather than pressing his suit to marry Martine who moved her heart, young lieutenant Lorens becomes more and more intimidated and uncertain. Being unable to express his love for Martine, one day he decides to go back to resume his military life.

It is interesting to analyze that destiny plays a very important role in this movie as when Babette prepares feast, at the same time Lorens comes back to his aunts home. One thing that becomes clear from this movie is that it is the fate or destiny that ensures an individuals happiness, as in this movie Babette surprises the two sisters by sending them to the store where Lorens Loewenhielm was waiting for Martine. Lorens once a young lieutenant is now transformed into a wise general who gained self-confidence. Lorens has now become a distinguished General, who again visited his aunts home at the right time, so it wont be wrong to say that it was all decided by destiny that Martine and Lorens would be meeting again and this time that fate has decided something good for them. It was the time when the General wished to amend the mistake that he made years back and tries to compensate for his lack of self- assurance and proved that he was a more diligent and confident figure who has the courage to confess his love to her lady love.

In this movie, a light has been spotted on how destiny plays a vital role in the life of General Lorens and Martine and reunites them after a long time. Analysis of this movie also shows that how beautifully a few words and touches could heal year old wound, settle arguments and restore love. This movie also spots a light on the graceful moments between the couple at the dining table. So as a whole, taking a look at this movie, it could be said that Lorens personality got changed during the course of time and he changed from a shy young lieutenant into a mature General who has the ability of self-assurance. It is purely because of destiny that brings him to his aunts home exactly on the day when Babette prepares a feast for all and General seeks the permission to join them at the celebration. This fact must be kept in mind that not all the individuals are treated by destiny the way Lorens was treated. Fate/destiny is the main thing that could make life of a person a bed of roses but if destiny does not support a person no other power in the world could put back humpty dumpty back on the wall if fallen once.
