An individualistic citizen is a term that is characterized by prioritizing and highlighting individual needs and desires over the entire society. The society that is based on individual citizen culture is rationale and conservative whereas engaged citizenship defines a culture that promotes the law of sovereignty and cooperation. Engaged citizen prefers the needs and requirements of other individuals. Modern technology and social media platforms have significantly promoted engaged citizenship similarly, Robert Putnam has demonstrated engaged citizenship in his model.
Last week, I have encountered a conversation with one of my neighbors. He was parking his car in the parking lot and I have observed that he was parking his car away from his home. The conversation started with a formal introduction and he explained that he used to park his car in front of his house normally. He said that the last day I have encountered a situation that forced me to park my car away from my home. He said, "I saw a woman living in our neighbors and she is quite older and having trouble in taking her car because of my car." I saw it was very difficult for her to take her car as the space left in the street was not enough to turn her car back easily. She never protested it and I was wondering for how long she was suffering from this trouble and never criticized. Therefore, I decided to park my car away from my house so that she would be able to take her car easily. While listening to the incident, I was shocked and the conversation made me realize that I was not an engaged citizen and was always against the political leaders and policies rather concentrating on how we can help people to get their necessities of life easily. With this little help, we can make a difference in the lives of people and we can promote cooperation and collaboration in the country.
