Owing to the latest advancement in the field of technology, there are several options available that can aid in resolving security that many educational institutes are facing.

A layered security approach is a well-known approach that facilitates mitigating security issues. This approach can be defined as the practice of combining several mitigating security controls to safeguard data and resources. This approach can be used not only in military operations but also in schools, neighborhoods and, etc. In short, it is an approach that uses various security controls at different levels to protect the assists. This approach also facilitates in reducing the effects of threats that are posed to the assets. In this approach, the number of security measures to be used depends upon the threat and the importance of assets (Denman, 2012). This approach uses security protocols at the application level, transmission level, and at a system level as well.

As mentioned earlier, the increase in security issues in schools is because of the lack of a proper security plan. It has been observed that most of the school have a similar strategy to protect the children in the school. The layer security approach provides protection against a broad range of attacks, and therefore, this approach is suitable to be implemented in schools. Typically, communication, access control, and perimeter management are the key elements to the layers, and therefore, preparing for an emergency requires a communication solution. So, a layer security approach will facilitate in providing security at every layer.

Due to recent terrorist attacks in the schools, it is important to secure the perimeters of schools to ensure that no unwanted visitor enters the school premises. In layer security approach, the access control can also aid in providing critical information regarding the people who have entered in school. The access control system can be integrated with the visitor management system. Similarly, the layer security approach can also be applied at various other steps of the school security system to ensure safety.
